Altcoins in general has bringed inovation over crypto world, if we stop and calculate the crypto value we will easy see that its a huge investement splited over several coins. Bitcoin is main currencie and almost all others altcoins just had copied some part of it, and improved the transaction speed, something with bitcoin looks like wont be changed anytime soon.
To be honest most altcoins are useless and serves only for speculative trading. If you make a lot of money on alt trading than somebody had to "lose" the same amount. Also many new altcoins were proven just to be scams...
I think there's no need for more than +-5 altcoins. Some could be a test field for BTC incoming features, others could provide more anonymity and some could focus on just specific group of people/market and better suit their needs. It took many years for bitcoin to be where it is now (accepted by such a big companies as Micorsoft or Valve) and no altcoin can surpass it anytime soon, if ever...

First of all, the competition environment is always good. Altcoins will always be needed. In addition, each altcoin comes with a different innovation. They all have a different purpose. And They exist to solve different problems.
But apart from these, there are coins that MLM companies use. These coins are not traded in stock markets. Exist coins to take advantage of Bitcoin's popularity. I do not think these would be useful for Bitcoin.

We need alt coin because we know one day bitcoin will be not enough for everyone and we need alt coin to spread the freedom of using digital currency, even though now alt coin looks like a weak crypto currencies but in the future it can become bitcoin rival
i think we need alt coins because, trading alt coin is the best way of earning bitcoin. to me although currency i am not investing my bitcoin anywhere, and just hold it because the price of bitcoin is expect to increase, but most of the time the price of bitcoin when remain stable,i mostly to trading in alt coin where i mostly get good chance to increase my bitcoin.

Altcoin is real and have great price of fee.. the price right now.. altcoin has a great investment and we can get a good profit if we are choose a good altcoin investment because not all altcoin are really can makes you profit.. it is depends in the market.. Bitcoin is really needs altcoin because it can help to increase the popularity of bitcoin or more people can know about bitcoins and other crypto that can push the number of bitcoin users that can push the price of bitcoin also.

Altcoins is good in most cases as it provides healthy competition and also provide some business for people who are in altcoin to bitcoin trading. But Bitcoins don't need Altcoins in any case and they have their own existence.

these innovations come to minds of the developers of these coins not to the coins like altcoins so if these developers will suggest these things to the developers of bitcoin or they participate in the development of bitcoin then without any altcoin bitcoin can get that innovations. With this thing the crypto community will not divide in different groups and they all will work for a single currency/bitcoin and will boost up its success.

For us to know, why bitcoins need altcoin because, we know that bitcoin is just only a kind of currency. For bitcoin value to grow, we need to convert it out to any kind of altcoin, to make bitcoin value earn. Earning on bitcoin is intended only for altcoin values. This kind of trading shall be implemented to bitcoin value grow.

Bitcoin's Segwit adoption seems to have been stalled. But not everything is lost: I expect that altcoins will eventually drive Bitcoin to a solution - literally from the bottom of the "small shitcoins" up to the "first-tier" leader, BTC. Because there are already altcoins adopting SegWit, and Bitcoin eventually will have to follow to ensure its leading role in cryptocurrency.
So Groestlcoin - a "fourth-tier" altcoin - has activated Segwit at the end of January as the first cryptocurrency, and the soft fork went on without problems (that's also the reason for it's price pump).
Now you can say, GRS is a very small altcoin with a under-complex network. But there are third-tier altcoins following its adoption (e.g. Viacoin) and will probably implement it in the near future. Then Litecoin as a second-tier altcoin could follow - its Segwit signalling is still very low but increased competence from smaller alts will eventually pressure miners to adopt it. And if LTC adopts it, I expect a strong pressure to Bitcoin miners to adopt it, too.

Bitcoin really needs altcoins, because altcoin is the alternative way of the community for them to have a chance to earn bitcoin, and altcoin too is also helping bitcoin for promoting it so afst in the whole. One more things because of altcoin people in this industry are having a chance to save some bitcoin once the value of altcoin increase and multiply in x10 and up.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are different from each other so that is why bitcoin does not need to change or adopt SegWit kind of developments, however it is right that the bitcoin is still in need for some progress and development/enhancement, as for the altcoins I think they are just a way to get to bitcoin, you go and mine altcoins because mining bitcoin is harder.

Yeah and they also support Bitcoin on the market since we can trade other coins to bitcoin and from Bitcoin to other coins. The more number of altcoin, the more potential we can have from cryptocurrency. In my opinion, Bitcoin is great, but we have to admit the truth that in the future, people will develop a new coin which contains all advantage from many cryptocurrency and It will become the only currency in this world

For me bitcoins need alternative coins to support it self to grow more its economy bitcoin will not grow into this if theres none token support him. But bitcoin will encounter compitition to those alternative coins. Like those classic coins who will be scammed in the end.
Bitcoin doesn't really necessary needs altcoins but, altcoins has bring the bitcoin on its number 1 spot since we all aim is to have bitcoin, and altcoins are just a token that you need to get the jackpot which is the bitcoin. Altcoins creates big transactions that makes cryptocurrency feasible to the market and with that the bitcoin becomes more popular. 
It is actually possible for Altcoins to make Bitcoin weaker, and not stronger! Bitcoin doesn't need them to rise and become strong, it already is right now stronger than any other one and will probably continue to be. If an Altcoin falls, either mothing happens to Bitcoin or it actually becomes stronger than if more Altcoins are going to be created.
As quoted altcoins make bitcoin stronger in one perspective. In other form altcoins help to make people understand much about bitcoin. Because when comparison is there, people easily understands it more easily than just explaining things.i personally a little bit doubt about it , as bitcoin still can be paired with fiat right? but altcoins will created nonetheless as everything , every business need a competitor . so does bitcoin too .
