I believe this would literally change the world. Think about it, sending money wherever you are from and just with a click of a button, hell make it so whatsapp allows it themselves instead of using like wuabit or whatever.

Whatsapp could make a lot of money with this idea, I don't know how and I don't know the execution of such project but if you would allow people to send and receive bitcoin via whatsapp that easily that it will change the world. I mean think about it that would mean people could accept bitcoin in many more stores because all you have to do is send money to the shop owner via whatsapp and you are done.

This is not just "send money to friends" type of deal, the shop owners could make QR on their whatsapp and accept payments so much more easily, its literally a genius move.

first its on kakaotalk and now its on whatsapp , whats next fb messenger  ?  its really nice to see that bitcoin and other cryptos are now  partnering with popular platform because this can evenly help the adoption of cryptos to become more wide spread .

I really don't like this cause I feel it will have more negative effects than the positive effect. If something like this will every be created,  then more security features should be added on Whatsapp but since it's owned by Facebook and the decision on implementing Bitcoin. I don't think the security issue may be fix. Locking your Whatsapp app with app locks is not full security feature.
Yes right, Bitcoin users certainly have to maintain their valuable assets, so that application companies that adopt Bitcoin must have good security features, so that there is no hacking or bad things about user assets.

maintain where ? inside the app/whatsapp ?  and whats the connection of storing bitcoins inside their app from having a good security measure ? but no matter how solid the platforms security , there are still hackers that can bypass it  . that is why i dont recomend someone to store alot of bitcoins on such popular app like this  .

This is a good direction for mass adaption and gaining interest into bitcoin and crypto in general. I guess most of the guys outhere are still sceptical about bitcoin. the parabolic rise and slowly decrease of the value wasn't the best way to get popular but in a few years.... it will be forgotten Cool

They don't want to be left behind by the rise of cryptocurrency wave. Actually, I was expecting them to be the frontrunner of this crypto revolution as they encompass a big market already. But then, new crypto users should know how to handle the security of their accounts, else, there will be stealing of funds, left and right. But of course, this is still good news for old crypto users. This might expand the usage of crypto faster and eventually contributing to the steady increase of bitcoin's price.  Grin

Facebook indeed have what Bitcoin as a whole pack in general - market penetration. I'm skeptical bout FBcoin but Snapchat introducing BTC payments meant more people being familiarized with the concept. I haven't used Snapchat but I'm assuming it already have a fiat wallet. If they'd allow users to convert using the app, then a lot of people could be buying their first sats through it.

I see no innovation or exciting stuff happening here.

IMO the exciting part is that it's targeted directly to the mainstream. UX has always been lacking on Bitcoin's part because people would rather not bother learning new methods to pay. If there's a service that can handle all of that behind the scenes, and it's integrated into an app that ~1 billion people already use, it could mean a lot for adoption. Lightning could be in the pipeline too, from what I've seen.

But yeah, execution is key in the end. We'll see how they handle it.

Very interesting because KaKaoTalk a mobile instant messaging application for smartphones based in South Korea is integrating crypto wallets as well. So it's going to be interesting as a lot of messaging apps is also moving toward accepting crypto. So competition is getting stiff out there in the messaging apps world, but it will benefit all crypto enthusiast, another win situation for all of us.

That was good news, I think many users of WhatsApp will thankful with the news especially if that is happening soon. They can send bitcoin from the WhatsApp to other friends or family, and I am sure that it will give a chance for the adoption to grow because we know that WhatsApp user is million in all country.

Surprising news
Wuabit is a cryptocurrency wallet accessible via a chat interface in WhatsApp. The developers describe it as 'software agent' powered by specialised AI. Users simply type in commands like 'send 0.05BTC to Vera' and Wuabit will send the cash. By using a service as popular as WhatsApp, Wuabit hope to propel crypto payments further into the mainstream.

“We are near completing the wallet core service starting with BTC.

“By using WhatsApp/SMS/Telegram you can access that wallet easily.

The public beta is due to start next month.

Fantastic news .Crypto currencies will have now more usability. It is that what that we need most

Finally, other messengers are connected. The implementation of I understand will be in the bot. But there is one thing, facebook makes its own cryptocurrency, won't it block this bot as a competitor?

This is of course good news, when some people and large application-based companies adopt crypto, of course this news makes one step further about crypto development, in my opinion this is very extraordinary when we make transactions using only smartphones, let's see continuation and also how it works because I am sure that if we are here, no one understands, but the hope is of course to give something positive.

I see no innovation or exciting stuff happening here.

These are the sort of features that have to be built on Lightning for super fast and cheap payments. Building on the main-chain is completely unnecessary when it comes to low value transactions, which is what WhatsApp and similar apps stimulate.

The number of main-chain transactions I send have fallen to a yearly low since I manage to get quite some things done with Lightning, and with the growing adoption in that field there is less incentive for me to switch to the main-chain unless I have to use BitPay's gateway or send out higher value transactions.

Bitrefill is an excellent Lightning merchant and so far my favorite.

To people saying Facebook is entering crypto just because of this news, you need to slow down. Wuabit is a chat bot that works (or would work in the future) on multiple IM apps, and it's not owned by Facebook.

Sure there are privacy concerns, and maybe some technical kinks here and there, but I think this is a pretty cool concept. You're only supposed to use these for small transactions anyway. It might also turn out to be a new and effective way for merchants to accept Bitcoin payments.

Good thoughts. Wuabit wants to begin his public beta next month so we will know more how it works. It can be really cool if combined with LN. Wuabit will start with btc ,they want to add more coins after
Whatever to think it will serve crypto currencies mass adoption and will make people more aware of crypto currencies

And in this way they will be able to easily find out who sent money to whom. We all know whatsapp is being followed by legal forces. It is not about technology, it is about our declining freedom.
No that’s not true, I know what’s app is not for free it is dependent but still there are so many other uses, we can use it only to promote bitcoin, not only facebook but so many other website who are using for promotion of bitcoin, we can invite our friends to buy and invest in bitcoin because the price is really affordable.

I can't expect more for that because the market is very different I don't know to go here, I hope it's very far from what is already there to penetrate the market further than now, I also can't wait to see how this project develops to develop it, security must be highly recommended because sometimes whatsapp security is very doubtful about security, which is very vulnerable to hacking, which is a very important problem, hopefully it can be fixed.

Maybe just issue for making bitcoin investor panic with moment where many created with new own crypto like facebook and whatshap, I think they are only giving bad news and never make it come true for several year later.
I think you misinterpreted the ops what he is saying is that WhatsApp is going to support the sending of bitcoin on it platform that is to say having a build in wallet on your WhatsApp. That will be great and am hoping to see the technicality that will be adopt and used in developing this.

Eh, this doesn't strike me as anything close to revolutionary, although it's definitely good to see crypto get some promotion this way.

What it reminds me of is when car companies were including satellite radio receivers in their cars, which gave Sirius/XM Radio investors tons of false hope about satellite radio adoption--and it didn't really take off like everyone hoped.  I've never used whatsapp, but even if everyone else does I'm wondering if people are going to find bitcoin to be useful or just a novelty.  I'm guessing they still will prefer using fiat when they have to pay for something, regardless of how convenient any company makes it to use bitcoin.  But I'll wait and see.

People are happily embracing the digital payment methods and crypto is also added as one of the digital payment methods for them.
Only hindrance I see in adoption is its volatility and somewhat long confirmation time.

If they partner up with Facebook & Co. and create a nice hype, this could actually lead to new money flowing into the market.
Though, they need to prove their achievements first - this is only rumors; buy it, and sell the news later!  Wink

It's already owned by Facebook IIRC.
With the fund use to maintain whatsapp not coming from any advertisement without doing further research he ought to have know that facebook and whatsapp actually belong to the same person. Besides, the news about the two platform implementing of crypto currency even proof it and will definitely open doors for new surge in price and money  Wink

On the other, I know how popular WA is, not just in Asia but in Europe... letting people just easily send BTC over it could be a huge boost for utility - it might actually take actual traffic away from Bitcoin network though, unless the app also integrates LN (oh wouldn't that be cool!).
I'm from Europe myself and can tell you that WA is super popular over here. I honestly don't know anyone aside from elderly people who aren't using it, but they don't even use email and other applications we can't live without today. Cheesy

I don't know how popular Bitcoin payments will be when implemented, but this is quite a positive development considering the billions of people who are using WA almost on a daily basis.

Back when I started here I could only dream of this, and Bitcoin was still more or less that speculative investment people thought could go to zero overnight. Barely anyone aside from skeptics think Bitcoin will go to zero anymore.
