Bitpays way to calculate the price seems to be most fair. https://bitpay.com/bitcoin-exchange-rates

So, it is possible to buy BTC at MtGox price on xe.com. Has anyone tried this?

XE are still just using Gox rates and are currently telling the world that a bitcoin is $255.

Please join me in letting them know about some alternatives.

I'd probably be inclined to recommend this one at the moment:  http://www.coindesk.com/price/

But are there any other better alternatives?

The best alternative is always the highest priced, right?  Roll Eyes Way to pump a coin..

Funny XE I thought more of them.
https://bitcoinaverage.com/ is another
I like coindesk's BPI

I did see another with a volume weighted index I thought was better than both the above ( I'll post it when I think of it.)

Just spotted this... GF was updating the apps on her iPad and XE was among them. There must have been something triggered at an instinct level as I immediately saw 'Now with bitcoins!' as the update note Smiley

Excellent news!

Yes, that "Now with bitcoins!" is like buy now before is too late. Touché!

I have previously used the Ƀ symbol for Bitcoin in everything I do.

I like that Ƀ symbol, but those railway station logo colors are just awful.

It'll be easy to spot the early adopters, they be slow to change from BTC.

I don't like the XBT thingy. I'll stick with BTC as does oanda.com

Early adopter alert!

Lol. He does have a point though, but it also applies to people who invested heavily in the "BTC" naming convention for domains and such. I've already started using XBT in branding for products, just as I have previously used the Ƀ symbol for Bitcoin in everything I do.

Really nice! I use XE every now and then but for quick currency calculations I use Google, for example: "1 usd to eur" ( http://lmgtfy.com/?q=1+usd+to+eur ).
Let's see when we can search for "1 xbt to eur" Smiley

I also use XE.com frequently, have been pushing for XBT usage, and am very pleased with this update! Thank you XE for making our lives easier!

Now comes the interesting question: where does the price come from? (I read what they claimed, but I want to know the exact sources)
