Looking forward to the opinion of the experienced.
Hold bitcoin because it will surely be here in the next 5yrs to say. But some altcoins you see today may not survive for 2yrs only.
Sell any coin that is hyped and pumping. When you benefit from one pumping, then sell it and go with your money.
Trade any coin you want. Bitcoin pair trade doesn't move. You can trade with alcoins to get a better movement.

The best coin to buy and hold at all time is bitcoin, but this does not mean that every other altcoin out there is not good, there are still some strong altcoins that are also very good to buy and hold for future profit, but the problem is how to really identify such altcoins aside from Ethereum and BNB which are already successful projects.
It is actually best to buy bitcoin instead, any time you are confused on what coin to buy, cus this is when the most mistakes are made.

bitcoin is the preferred crypto to hold by many because you can't go to zero with this investment. it may go down to your buy level but if you can wait, it can easily recover its price. with alts, aside from ETH and BNB, it is quite hard to decide as you need time and at least your own evaluation on these alts. you have to understand that keeping up with the progress on each alt you want to invest is advisable as you will get insights on where the coin is heading to.
Always DYOR and this is the main thing that you should always consider out when making an investment and considering out on choosing altcoins or tend to decide to deal up with. Its true that it is more worth if you do focus more on Bitcoin which does somehow give out that assurance when it comes on making profits for long term considering on how much trust and confidence where the community is been putting on. Although you cant really be that so sure in speaking about risk because there's always lies ahead and its something that you cant really be able to assure out.So only always invest on the amount which you can afford to lose.
Some people arent really that too satisfied on staying up on one place and this is why they do really consider out on investing with other viable options which is to touch up with altcoins as well.

You can do all of this, because in cryptomarket there's a lot of opportunity all you have to do is to analyze and have a plan.
I do hold and trade Bitcoin for a specific reason, either to take profit or to catch-up with the market.

Also, you can do sell and trade with the altcoins don't just limit yourself with Bitcoin, its ideal to hold Bitcoin but you can always trade with the altcoins. DCA is also a good strategy if you want to hold more Bitcoin, sure the price will be more cheaper in a bear market but once its over you can expect and expensive Bitcoin which makes your holdings more worth it.

If this is about Bitcoin, I will surely make Bitcoin a long-term holding. However, if we see the current market. It is still in the bearish era. So, it will be very worthy if we can add more amount to hold for a bullish period later. But if we are going to invest in altcoins, we must know which altcoins they are. if this is about new projects, big no, I will only use them for trading short term. So, I can take profits every time I see higher prices. Holding new altcoins is a very high risk, it will be like gambling in which we don't know much if they can grow and survive or not.
But if it is about top altcoins like Ethereum and BNB, I will consider them to make long-term investments, too.

in bitcoin investment then Holding now is the best decision. but that's for me. but for Altcoins then there is no compelling reason to hold them long term. especially if we don't see strong fundamentals in the altcoins we buy. for altcoins we prefer to sell when we have made a profit. As for the cause of your problem about the price actually increasing when you sell it is caused by many factors. but I think it's because we don't understand technical analysis such as support and resistance. because if you already understand then we can be better at making decisions when selling and buying. because there is some sort of breakout confirmation or something. because I also experienced the same experience when I did not understand this. even I'm not proficient until now. and still have to learn.

Hold with Bitcoin and trade with Altcoins.
This has been my strategy and so far it works, you should also consider the market condition before you create your strategy and before you execute your trade. Don’t just see the market blindly, see every opportunity and do what is right. The market is too big, there’s a lot of opportunity here to make profit even on a bear market. Hold, buy and sell, whatever you prefer just make sure you are ready for the risk.
Or vice versa? When we say trade, it doesn't mean to permanently replace the coin but we can always re-buy it again. Im talking about mostly BTC here but for altcoins. I think selected only. Many of them doesn't have a replay value anymore so we must dispose them before they take their revenge and scammed us later on.

You said creating a strategy depends on the market condition but you forgot to say if on what market conditions your strategy will do better? Is it on a bear market or maybe in the bull one? But it would also be better to have more than one strategy so that we won't idle our funds and we can still move continuously.

JUST ZOOM OUT.
Zoom Out means investing for a longer period of time. Actually, when you do this, the probability of achieving gains is the highest, because investing in the long term is most likely profitable.

The matter does not apply to altcoins because it fails to achieve continuous demand and therefore will not succeed in keeping the price high.
Bitcoin does this due to its popularity, decentralization and real demand outside of exchanges.

Till today only bitcoin is fully decentralized and secure cryptocurrency available. Alts may be scalable but they have issues of decentralization and security. Success in Bitcoin investment doesn't come overnight rather it take times time. I am one of biggest fan of Bitcoin DCA and if you see stats of Bitcoin DCA that are spread over time then one can see how profitable it is.

The strategy might seem to be easy upon explanation or when being told in detail. But when you're actually doing it, you might feel anxious and have some fear.
You may not actually look at that price point of selling because you might feel that it's quite low and you want to wait for some more. And then, later on you'll miss the chance of selling and that's why it's sometimes hard to predict and get the right time to buy and sell and on this case, DCA really is the thing to do.
Well, there's no perfect way to do it for the first time. That's the lesson will come after you make a mistakes but if OP would be lucky he might not lost too much on a single try. Doing DCA on a bear market helps you a lot during the bull run since all of what you have had collected will rise in value. But I'll make sure that it's the right coin and not the shit coins somewhere that wouldn't have a value in long term.

Choose your investment wisely whether it's Bitcoin or altcoins but I'd rather choose to diversify my investment.
Everyone is free to do strategies that they think are going to be perfectly fitting their investment style. So if you're for diversification, I just want to say that don't diversify that much and still choose the best that you think will contribute to your portfolio.

Dear fellows pretty much agreed with your point. As OP considers BTC as the saving mode. Op is not sure about the savings type is it temporary or long run sometimes we save money for temporary times to use when needed then bro i am in doubt that OPs considering BTC as a saving mode is not good. The reason is simply it feels risky because money is important on needed time for OP what if the market drops by massive value then OP would have no choice except the Selling at Loss.

DCA is good for the Long RUN if you want to draw results from a short period of time then DCA might not be good for you.
Yeah, short period for DCA might not really show the best results but I think someone can learn from that idea if they ever planned to go after the long term.
Test until it's proven to be good and suiting the investor or trader alone.

Definitely hodl man. Look at the graph above posted by @hugeblack, it tells the whole story about hodl. Ask the importance of hodling to guys who are legends here since the inception of bitcoin on the blockchain. Ask those who missed the opportunity of becoming millionaire or billionaire when they gave up their bitcoins on pizza, or waitress tip, and what not. There are stories as much as close to the year 2017-2020, the period when bitcoin shown highest jump in the history since beginning. I guess we have enough proofs in the long run when bitcoin has out-performed itself and gone to some another level heights and most importantly they took the "HODLER" with them to those heights. They were the true ones and those who are still having amazing patience with them.

For me looking a chart like this in long run more scary especially if I will just buy for the first time. It’s really not appetizing to by on a chart like that was already forming a concave downward. Luckily I’m one of those investors that manage to buy and hold on below 10K level which is way I can still buy at any price above 20K since I’m still in profit from my past investment.

The only thing that scares me right is when will this long term rising movement will shift trend.

Many time i noticed when i sell bitcoin or altcoin sell since then price grow up and up. And when I buy bitcoin or altcoin then price low day by day. specialy, altcoin hold, sell and trade big loss. 4 years ago few coins i hold for future. now this coin price few value or most of coin value is zero. Few coin trade, there too big loss. past year in the case of 1 coin invest $1000, this coin price today zero.

Looking forward to the opinion of the experienced.
This scenario remains common amongst people who are often about the charts. Your always up there, trying to study every move and picture the profits you could make from them. Eventually, you get in after you thought you've carefully analysed the charts and it turns the other direction. This jas left most traders or investors think the market is after therr money, always watching to see when you come in and then, it goes the other way.

Well, best thing has been always yo keep off the charts. No need to be therr all the time. Altcpin investments might be one way to make 100x in our days but, 90% of the time, your in for a lose and that makes it a rather risky investment. I'll sell it with any pump.

Bitcoin remains the most reliable and what you would find me holding.

If you feel that when you sell bitcoin or altcoins and it turns out that the price has gone up even higher, it means that there is something wrong with your analysis. Your analysis should tell you that you must wait a bit and not rush to sell your coins. To anticipate something like that happening again, you must be more active in learning to analyze so you won't make the wrong decision when to buy and sell.

But if you want to hold for the long term, I'd suggest just holding bitcoins and forgetting altcoins because, as you said, many altcoins can't increase unless the coin has really big support. But you can still trade altcoins for the short and medium term and only hold bitcoin for the long term.

My opinion, Bitcoin all time saving mode is the best way. Some time when bitcoin price up then sell and when price down then buy is the best decision.  This method all time not working for trade. This is an open secret that only bitcoin is suitable for long term holding and 99% of altcoins are only for short term trading. If you are not ready to accept this fact then you cannot cope up in this cryptocurrency space. I also have tried to hold few altcoins for value appreciation and staking benefits but when value appreciation is not happening then there will be no point of staking them and most of the coins are not at all being traded in exchanges now.

For example, I was surprised when RDD coin was suddenly pumped over 200 satoshi then I started accumulated when it was available for cheaper but now trading around 1 satoshi per 1 RDD. I decided to invest and hold RDD because of its POS feature but when its value is only 1 satoshi, there will be no point of staking it regularly. But, BTC is doing all good and people who decide to hold it for years enjoying being rich today.

The reason why your altcoin dies is that the developer and owner leave it. That is the problem with some altcoins if you hold them in the long run, unlike bitcoin, which is a sure profit. That is why it is better to hold bitcoin than that altcoin. Also, your experience is that when you bought at that current price,  then it starts dropping. The meaning of this is that you didn't analyze the chart properly to determine where the entry point was, which is why you lost. You should have a strategy for when to buy so that you will minimize your losses.

I believe it is entirely up to you to choose whether to hold or sell because what works for me might not work for you, and your strategy for making a profit will differ from others'. However, it is a good idea to ask for others' opinions so you can pick up some knowledge that may be useful. You need to make an effort to stick to the strategy that works best for you. Although, altcoins are generally unreliable but they can be profitable. I will say  Bitcoin is safer to hold.

You just need to know this, bitcoin is good for long term investment, the longer you hold, the bigger the profit will be. Altcoins are short term, meaning if you are already profitable, then you should take profits and never think it will grow further in the long time, altcoins are just pumped and dumped, nothing more and nothing less.

If you are skilled, then do your own analysis, you can trade with any coin as long as you see it as potentially profitable. If you are unskilled, stay away from trading as it is not as simple as buy and hold.

If you have extra money for buying an asset better to grab the opportunity you are quite problematic because you don't have a time better to go for a long-term investment which gives you a good long run in the future for holding but if you have the capability to grab the opportunity every time there's a market changes regarding with the price you can go for a short  term trading still good thing if you plot a technical analysis to those position you would like to enter and don't forget to set a stop loss and take profit to prevent getting burn all of your assets.
