Honestly speaking, I have never encountered a phishing attack. Even if I would have then I am quite sure I would have figured it out that it was a phishing site.
I do keep reading the news to find out that so many people get scammed by phishing sites. Either the people must be really dumb or the scammer must have developed the phishing really well.
Anyway, it's good to know that somewhere in the world, people are actually doing their jobs well and catching these scammers and punishing them for the same.
It's always good to find out that bad people get punished for what they have done.
I think people who got tricked by those phishing sites either no knowledge about of the computer or they were too careless in taking a safety precaution when logging in their personal account. There are more advanced safety precaution already that the sites offered to these people yet they don't bother to apply it.
It (maybe) were just surprised that we are already scam. Not intentionally we want it to happen but because we think that is the correct site or it similar to look at. Not only noobs been a victim to this but all of us are subject into this. Scammers are too smart to think at this time, they actually developing their strategy also for them not easily caught by the public.

The more that cryptocurrency gets awareness, I believe that the more the days of scammer will be numbered, because then, government would have to protect their citizens so that the number of people going bankruptcy in their country will not increase because cryptocurrency theft really has a way of making people go bankruptcy.

Since we have many people that have never in their life listen to advise never to invest money that they cannot afford to lose, that is when you see someone really investing all his life savings in the project which I count as out of greed and was never out of luv to support the project. Government now will see the reason why they should get involved in bitcoin and regulate it, one there is regulation, there will be more of these arrests.

This is better, they are arrested. In many case, bad peoples still not arrested. I think most of their victim is newbie or people who want to get more additional income

Avoid
1. mallware download
Sometimes this is not easy to recognized

2. Phising
It can recognized more easy and if user read carefully about it

3. Fliping scams / double money / HYIP / Pyramid Scheme
No one want to double money other peoples. Do you want to double my BTC? Most of people now know about it

4. Fake exchange
At first, they appear as not fake exchange but shit exchange. Sometimes shitexchange add small coin and shit coin. most of them also fake their volume. What they steal from users?
1. KYC Data
2. Email and password

There was NO phishing scam.
Only a clickbait stupid title.

Main article:
Raid on Chinese-manned firm exposes cryptocurrency scam
The scammers are choosing Philippines as place to scam investors because people here are easy to get scammed because of lack of knowledge and the want to get profit in a quick way.Well at least they got arrested but I believe that more scams like this will occur in the future. What Philippinian Bros need is a seminar about cryptocurrency or even the basics of Bitcoin and how not to get scammed by these scammers.

They were actually scamming Chinese people, not Filipinos.  Grin

@stompix indeed the title is click bait and it seems people do not even read the article properly, they only read the headlines and then post it here. There’s no conclusive proof available to say those employees didn’t knew what they were getting into, and now it doesn’t matter since they’re being deported to China and most likely they will be tried under the Chinese law. As for your question why did no one suspect them earlier, it could be because they had bribed the local officials, and since they were targeting Chinese people the local authorities never felt the need to be suspicious about them.

Money makes people do the craziest things so i am not surprised by this and even if scammers come across this news it won't make them think twice, crime pays for real but karma will always come around, they deserve to be jailed for a very long time, scammers are heartless beings

It just shows you how clever these Chinese scammers are, because they relocated to another country to scam their own people. conned more than 1000 Chinese investors."  Roll Eyes

Luckily for those investors the Chinese government reacted quickly and they will be deported to their country, as their international passports have been canceled by the Chinese government.  Grin

We see a lot of Bitcoin scammers relocating to sovereign islands to execute their scams, in the hope that they would not be extradited to their country of origin and also for the tax breaks.  Tongue

I think the Phillippines needs more firm and stricter laws that will serve harsher punishments to those who've committed these kinds

of cyber frauds in order to discouraged potential actors. If this will not be implemented asap, chances are more of these fraudulent

activities would operate under the Philippines crypto friendly policy and that would be detrimental to the crypto-industry in general.
Which should be taking notes by the government all over the world especially those who are willing to adopt crypto currency. This news that spread bad image for crypto for being another venue for scamming people, not only those who are not well aware with this kind of investment currencies. Having a much stronger ruling for such Cyber case will warn those people who took overseas like Chinese to travel and do the same act.

Indeed! The crypto industry badly needs an effective deterrent that will discourage and minimize these kinds of wrongdoings!
What we  need  is applying the "strong  teeth of  the law" to  the fullest  extent  but I wonder if  this  will be  the priority of
Governments or if they have the "political will" to enforce it?

273 Chinese nationals were arrested in the Philippines, accused for defrauding more than one thousand investors in an alleged Bitcoin scam syndicate as per information from coindoo...
Good to see news like these where criminal trying to take advantage of people and their life savings are put behind bars and these dumb criminals would have thought they could get away with BTCitcoin and so is the reason many cases are coming up in the past few years involving BTCitcoin where these scammers are luring people into investing in ponzi scams and other HYIP investments promising big returns.

I hope in future more of these criminals will face karma one way or the other and people should stop trying to double bitcoin without working for it, its simply greed
They do deserve this. All scammers should be prosecuted lawfully. Unfortunately, its the peoples fault. They fall for all these bullshit scams. The scams are most of the time quite obvious, but like you said, due to their greed they don't think straight and then falls for the scam. These people are the ones that are actually influencing those scammers even more sadly.

Again with the Bitcoin being dragged as an evil one on this.
Without knowledge they would not understand it and I do think there is a lot of people who will say it is bitcoin's fault even if there is no one behind bitcoin.

A currency being accused is the same as USD should be accused. Grin

But this happened before in the same country and they made a wrong type of news which had been cleared a week after.
They should be clear on how the output will be or how the news anchor will interpret.

I think scammers are more attracted to the third world countries since they think that most people from that country doesn't know what is cryptocurrency and how does it work. Well, as i have understood from the news they have pending cases left from their country where they scammed a lot of Chinese nationals then moved to Philippines to find another possible investors to be their next target.

People from the Philippines should have a slight idea on what is cryptocurrency if they really want to earn from it. It should start from the media to expand the use of cryptocurrency as it is the key to let people know quickly.

I've never visited any crypto website that asks for your private keys.

Waves platform allows cheap tokens to be made. And at some point more and more token "airdrops" popped up: they were asking the private key (not the Waves address!) to allegedly send tokens.
I gave this example because I've visited 1-2 such sites myself, just to see how they try to scam.

I expect that similar "giveaways" were done for Bitcoin too, although I didn't see any (maybe excepting the forks).

I would pity my assets if i got scammed. Becoming a good investor takes lots of information and determination, not just profit orientation. At least, the legal law take the right action. Stay informed. Stay safe.
