That's nice but I think most people can afford to waste the 1.9 seconds it takes to open a google window. That would probably be nice for someone without working hands like Dr. Stephen Hawking though. Unfortunately, anyone that would need that to be done for them will most likely need you to release an .exe for it. If they could compile it themselves they could write it themselves.

Grin Good point.
I did this instead of doing /r/dailyprogrammer

I love dailyprogrammer. It's the only good thing on reddit. It looks like you have a lot of fun coding. I did too when I was younger.

Here's a little challenge for you. For the hell of it and because almost the entire world uses Windows GUI make a windows program out of it. Change the application window title bar name to "Bitcoin Price" instead of the default "MainWindow". Give it minimize, maximize buttons and an owned dialog box with "Ok, Remove or cancel" buttons and dialog that asks something like, "are you tired of seeing the price" "click 'OK' to close for now, 'Remove' to stop the automatic loading at windows start, or 'cancel'.

In the main window place a little calculator that takes any entered btc amount and automatically calculates that by the retreved current Bitcoin price so the user can see how much btc they own in dollars. Make a combo box drop-down somewhere below the Calc with a preloaded list that allows a user to select between multiple sources for the available Bitcoin price (in case eventually one stops being available). Go ahead and compile an .exe for it and code the installation to create a new string value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] that points to your .exe location in C:/Program Files (x86). Don't forget to set the "Remove" button in your dialog box to take out the string value in the registry.

Start a thread here and on Reddit posting your little proggie asking for donations. Make sure to release the source with the .exe. I bet you can easily pick up some coin with it.

I'm looking for a application of widget that I could install on my windows computer that will show me bitcoin value live with some stats or graphs or whatever.
Like the one on coindesk website, is there any?
Please do suggest whatever you use for this purpose.

Try BTC.com extension for chrome. Give in real time the price of bitcoin in several places. Don't have graphics but have to many other data. For me work perfectly.

Just open and bookmark preev.com

Why do you need software or application?

Preev.com does the same job,and you don`t have to download and install anything.
Well I think this is the most suitable option for now and that is what I'm gonna do. Its pretty neat have no cluster of info or anything simple price value.
But If I have to see more information, what's the best place for that? Like to see price value of the past month or week etc.

Ok, so no to app or widget. But is there a browser extension for chrome or mozilla? I think that would be equally efficient and handy to have.
Anyone have that or know about any?
I know it can be done via a tab open in the browser but I am looking for a better solution first.

What's wrong with the gadget I posted?  Did you look at it?!  I'm using it as I type - works fine - though there are no graphs.

Go back to my post and get Domchi's gadget.
Then go to http://8gadgetpack.net/ and download their program which makes it possible to use gadgets with Windows 10 / 8.1 or 8.  After you install that, you can install Domchi's gadget and just call it a widget... or whatever you like Wink

Like this? I just coded this after seeing this topic.

I can share the code if anybody is interested.
- I am not in the habit of releasing .exe so you have to compile it yourself.
- The code is written in C♯
- It is less than 30 lines of code (pretty naked and straight forward) and uses an external library (Here) available through NuGet.

Leave your suggestions here and I will dust up the code and release it if there was any interest.

This opened a webpage that is just overflowing with too much information. Does it have something like a light-weight desktop widget or something similar after registering?

Damn too many scripts running in the background there. I don't like it.

couldn't you simply use preev, it is in real time, and you don't have too many overwhelming information there, just leave the tab open on your smarthphone
Please is this Preeview a desktop app or what?

a browser extension is not a better solution, it can actually be the worst solution. an extension is going to do the same job as opening a tab (like preev.com) to watch the price but with the difference that i can do other things in addition to what you see too.

I personally just use preev.com, it's simple, goes in your browser and shows the live value aggregated from different exchanges on the tab so you can keep an eye on it while not having to actively run something on your desktop or whatever.

If you want a desktop tracker, I don't know what you'd use since I don't use one.

It's what you need to watch the price relative to history and it's what the OP was asking for "stats and graphs".

If you want something less busy type "Bitcoin price" into google. I think that's what you're looking for.
OP was asking specifically for an app that displayed the Bitcoin price on his desktop.

On a side note: I guess you haven't read my suggestion since you probably have me on ignore for participating in a signature campaign (source: your signature).

There's an open source app that allows you to bring back desktop widgets onto Windows 8 and 10 called Rainmeter
...

there is a reason why Microsoft removed desktop widgets in their windows and you can find out more about it on their website but enough to say that Widgets were a security risk because they opened up ways to your computer for the hackers.
That's true, here's the article:
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2719662

On the security risks involving Rainmeter, I've found this:
http://forums.stardock.com/407589

I'm not sure if having Rainmeter installed without using any external plugins involves a security risk, that's why I added the code for the Bitcoin price ticker plugin.

Seems to me that the biggest security risk comes from installing external plugins.

There are many applications on google play that has charts pertaining the live market price of bitcoin. But I suggest that you use online site, just search it on google and you can monitor bitcoins price live charts as well as the different bids and prices in all exchangers. As I remember the name of the site is cryptocompare. Feel free to search and explore it if its suits your taste.
