No one saying they are criminals or so, it is just wild suspect coming from @ebliever. Everyone in crypto world has right to use it in a way, he/she wants. So a team decided to make amendments in current BTC system or Bitcoin Core like increasing block size to 8Mb and launch it with name 'Bitcoin Cash'. There main view is to reduce unnecessary hype in fees and confirmation time.
Yet it seems like they are unable to gain enough support so we can say it will be just another altcoin.
However, Don't believe that project is scandal of any type.

I think it matters. Same abbreavations of two different coins can make some confusion on exchanges. I think that exchanges will have to create different abbrevation for BitcoinCash. But it's not very important problem.

There is a problem in listing. 2 coins with the same name create unneeded confusion.

Since ViaBTC has been selling BCC futures and S9_BCC cloud mining I would bet the exchanges stay with BCC (Bitcoin Cash). BCC already has widespread use.

They can have more than 3 letters for it. There are Ithink more than a thousand coins right now.

Some coins/tokens have more letters. Just depends on what the exchange wants to call it Iguess.

STEEM is called STEEM everywhere Ihave seen it.

They probably call it BullShCashCoinc

I've seen no details whatever on the identity of the folks pushing BitcoinCash (please everyone stop calling it BCC - that is BitConnect).

Bitmain has disavowed itself from the effort saying it is a splinter group. They imply it is being led by ViaBTC but I don't have any details on that.

This lack of identity is one reason I think it could be nothing more than a scam effort by criminals trying to steal BTC, as follows:

1. Announce launch of a coin at a time guaranteed to get maximum news coverage, and with timing so tight that exchanges and wallet services can't possibly be prepared.
2. Arrange a futures market (on ViaBTC) and prop up the price there so it looks fairly valuable, creating strong interest in all Bitcoin owners who want to dump it before it inevitably deflates.
3. Then, since exchanges and wallets are unprepared for the split and users are eager/desperate to split their coins and get their "free money" - release malware claiming to be a wallet or splitting tool to enable users to claim their BitcoinCash. Except what it really does is send your private Bitcoin keys (which you need to load into it, naturally) to the scammers. You lose both your BitcoinCash AND all your Bitcoin.

Theymos stated in another thread that BCC will likely have much less value than Bitcoin as it's considered as a massive airdrop.

Exactly, Bitcoin Cash will be totaly not relevant, just another altcoin that represents no competition at all to Bitcoin and it will not have important role but it could confuse people.
We will probably avoid spliting so Bitcoin could continue its successful way forward. No reason to worry at all, just keep your Bitcoins.

This is what we want. BCC is totallly a ripoff of bitcoin and no one wants a ripoff of the original. It will be irrelevant soon as people will just dump it anyways. We have reached this far that no one can ruin or stop bitcoin from moving forward to the future.

I really don't know why there could be a split. I really don't understand the concept of splitting. But if there has to be a split. Then let them do that, I think it could help to better bitcoins, it should be.

There are various FUD about August 1st regarding split, let me settle some.

This coin is not real split and won't affect Bitcoin much. It will more work as altcoin.

Case 2, Bitcoin Cash name ... I guess it is inspired on the original Bitcoin Paper: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System isn't it ?

So far the main bitcoin will not split, but someone try to create altcoin with that, such as bitcoin cash, but they are too small in bitcoin that will change change the bitcoin itself.
