Suck it paypal. lol
Even here in Oman I had dinner with a guy who knew of bitcoin. This is happening guys!

O man!  Oman?

Oman. In the Persian gulf. North of Yemen, south of Iran.  The "guy" was British however.

I know where Oman is.

It was a pun requiring verbal inflection...

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but as a buyer I would strongly prefer PayPal and would gladly pay a premium at this point for most of the stuff I purchase on-line.  Of course if a supplier is willing to send me to goods then allow me to pay when I am satisfied I would prefer to use BTC.

Actually, even that is something of a lie because it is easier to dump fiat via PayPal/Visa than to go through the hassle, risk, expense, and time needed to acquire BTC.

I believe we are deeply in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gresham's_law phase with Bitcoin at the moment.  That is probably a more promising observation (if true) than that it is 'surpassing PayPal' in part because Bitcoin is clearly not ready for prime-time in trinket-buyerland...as evidenced by the near constant stream of thefts among other things.

It is very much a question mark in my mind about whether Bitcoin could ever be very adequate in the 'replace PayPal/Visa' role.  I highly doubt that it could in 'native' form unless it evolves into something quite different from it's initial implementation.

We are just one shipwreck away.  Grin
Of course, it may crash the world economy and bitcoin also.

P.S. Just like that, three flights and I'm back in Wisconsin. It's a crazy world.

Wow, that's actually amazing. If Bitcoin became the new Paypal (The way pretty much everyone expects you to pay online), then that'd be awesome!

These bitcoin/PayPal search comparisons are interesting - but not really statistically significant.  I mean, pretty much everyone already knows what PayPal is:  those who google it, or wiki it, are almost certainly doing so for a different reason than those who search on bitcoin.

I'd imagine that for PayPal searches, people are trying to find a contact number to call and complain.  Good luck with that...
It's extremely easy to find a number for paypal...contact us>call us oh no that was so hard.

You're right - it's gotten easier.  Much easier than a few years ago when it was - literally - impossible to call eBay or PayPal.

My point was generic, and poorly expressed.

This. I never bothered checking the wiki entry for PayPal.

The most significant figure to compare is how much currency is being held by PayPal vs. how much the currently held amount of BTC is worth.

My sentiments exactly.
