A Trust system is only worth the teeth it has.

If you don't pay your phone bill it hits your credit.

If you have shitty credit you cant finance; get credit, loans, you can be sued, withheld paycheck ext.

The only way a system like this will work is if we somehow use the law to enforce contracts.

But I'm probably not the only one here that thinks; **** that

Pretty much this. Reputation counts for a lot, and I'm going to give a lot more credence to merchants and services with a history of being reliable. That's where I'm going to spend my bitcoins. People who develop a reputation for honesty are going to be attractive without some trusted designation by a third party.

I'm not even sure how much value there would be in certifying a bitcoin address as "trustworthy" because I'm not doing business with the address in isolation. I'm going business with a person or organization selling products or services. Other than facilitating payment, I don't care about the address.

What is the purpose of bitcointalk.org?
I see a lot of repetition "People getting scammed and people laughing about it".

The BITCOIN TRUST CYSTEM would answer questions like:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-help-where-to-buy-and-where-not-to-buy-74457
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/so-i-have-been-scammed-what-next-128153   Oooh keee you got his name and banknumber, but woulden't it be nicer to know more?

If we spend time laughing about the newbies getting scammed, we won't reach the 1 million bitcoin users soon. Even funnier if we keep counting images instead of getting serious about our curreny, we might allready be lost.

Hero members if your so smart, find me a solution. How you can let somebody know who to trust and give them the insurance?

scamming or Fraud is not something unique to bitcoin. throughout history this problem has been discussed and worked on.

How would you know that the ID given to you was valid? would you contact the issuing government? would you run a background check. How would you know I didn't steal or forge that info and submit it to you? There is a reason Fraud is so prevalent in the credit card business; because its easy as fuck to beat the system. regardless of the billions you spend to fix it.

http://www.vice.com/rule-britannia/fraud-part-1-of-3

The only way for two parties to enter into any kind of arrangement that requires trust contracts are needed.

In order for contracts to be enforced you need a government the recognizes those contracts. If a contract is broken it is taken up in court. Lawsuits litigation ext.

What world are you living in, call up the police.  lol.

Bitcoin is a way to operate outside all that government BS; central authorities lead to corruption and tyranny.

The issue is that it needs to hit mainstream people who can increase to the point where the number of fraudulent transactions become a smaller percentage of the overall activity.  WOT is one way of ensuring that this happens.  The other way is to encourage ideas like this to go back to the drawing board to come up with other ways of trusting addresses.

You can't run for long if the bitcoin community got your ID,address and utility bill. One call to the cops is all that it takes to get a scammer arrested. If bitcointalk.org has a rating system set up, merchant with a trusted bitcoinaddress can be rated there. Rating btw are nothing if you don't got someones ID, Pirate was a hero member. With this system people stop fucking around and do real business or get arrested.

Oz I guess if everyone knows the identity of Pirate that he is in jail right now? Sorry I don't know he's ID, please tell me and also his address.

WorldOfBitcoin
People don't necessarily have to sign a contract
If you scam someone and your bitcoinaddress is linked to your ID, address and utility bill, that's enough evidence to go to the police. I would also rather say $#@4 the law, but if it can help us ward of scammers, we're one step closer to victory. We as a bitcoin community have to hold the keys of the merchants that want to sign up. It's not a must that you have to sign up.

Will the real system admin of bitcointalk.org or Amir Taaki (Amir loves bitcoins, so do I) please contact me. People always wanted insurance with bitcoin, better then this it don't get.

Far from a perfect system im afraid, true verification of ones identity is only good if you have REAL verification otherwise the person can run.

History, based on payments & the receivers history level would be good but it still has major bugs in theory.

I would prefer to use something like this than trust one guy with all my personal details

The way you have phrased it makes it look like a scam I'm afraid.

Ah, yes, the old "If you've done nothing wrong, you've got nothing to hide." Well, let me tell you something. I've done something very wrong. I got a girlfriend. What's wrong with that, you say? Well, I don't know either, but her jealous and abusive ex seems to think I've done something wrong, and he says if he ever finds us, he's going to kill us both. So you'll have to forgive me for "not having the balls" to ID myself.

Nah, I'm just kidding. My girlfriend doesn't really have a jealous and abusive ex. You see, the real reason I won't ID myself is that I once did a... "modelling job" to help pay for college. A search for my name reveals some, ahem, pictures that I'm not entirely proud of. Embarrassed Dammit, had I known those pictures would be used as the "before" pictures in advertisements for a certain penis enlargement product, I never would have agreed to it. Anyway, I'm hiding my penis (please, no jokes about having "nothing to hide" Cry).

I get a mail delivery failure... Hmmmm Greyhawk through hushmail I get: This email address does not exist: [email protected].

Wow can it be that you joking with me, well my proposal wasn't a joke.
If you don't got the balls to ID yourself I guess that that says more about you then me.
You should loose your hero status.

If the Real System admin of bitcointalk.org want to get down to business, please let me know. Only scammers fear this trust system.

Enough Talk

Who is the system admin of bitcointalk.org?
THROUGH GOOGLE DOCS, I WILL UPLOAD MY PASSPORT, ADDRESS AND
UTILITY BILL AND GIVE YOU THE OWNERSHIP. YOU IN RETURN WILL DO
THE SAME. I WILL SEND YOU 1 BITCOIN AND YOUR BITCOINADDRESS WILL
BE THE FIRST TRUSTWORTHY BITCOINADDRESS, because I have your details
I assume both parties won't "fuck around". If somebody wants their address
to be TRUSTWORTHY they have to upload their details, relinquish ownership
and send you 1 bitcoin. They will be added to the list of trustworthy
bitcoinaddress by you.

It's time to have trust among eachother, there's no point in posting 1 billion
messages with no solutions to our problems. Only Scammers fear the Bitcoin
Trust Cystem. Bitcointalk.org is also a good home for sucha system. We need
to act NOW!!!

I don't think your idea is centralized enough. How about also giving Bitcoin Foundation legaslative and judicative powers so they could establish rules on correct buyer-seller behaviour and hand out punishment for failing to follow the rules?

Hi DeathAndTaxes,

You got some really good points there, but what if the bitcoinfoundation had this service?
What if bitcoin merchants can be trusted simply because their bitcoinaddress is verified and
their details are known to a trusted party?

If the bitcoinfoundation had an list, with trustworthy bitcoinaddresses I think things would
be easier for bitcoin users. A user woulden't even have to go through the same process as
I say it.

It's actually a win/win we get a trust system, the bitcoinfoundation gets some cash and
everbody lives happily after.  Grin
If they want this BITCOIN TRUST CYSTEM, I volunteer to be the first merchant who SignsUp.

I think it's funny what you say doing it on the cheap. Why should something be expensive?
This Bitcoin Trust Cystem is simply saying: You want me to trust you? show me some ID....

Cause you have all someone info makes it turstworthy? How about verified, just cause you know who someone is does not make them trustworthy. I have seen people give full details and still turn tail on a loan.

Why would I trust you? You don't have to, but trust that the details you send the $0.50 to is NO LIE.

Really?  Not forgetting anything?   The casual way you treat the idea of people sending you sensitive KYC type info (the same info valued by identity thieves) is a deal killer.

Sure maybe if you were an registered company and posted a $100K Surety Bond, had private dedicated servers, a competent team well trained in handling sensitive information.  Essentially what you are describing is a certificate authority (CA).   Trying to do it, half-assed, on the cheap is a good way to cause a lot of damage to a lot of people.
