Every mixing services has different procedure, I am not good technically but I believe they can keep out transactions private.
One that I used was bestmixer, you can split your money in different wallets but there is a fee for every wallet that your money will go.

How do sites such as cryptomixer.us, bitcoin fog, etc work? I just used cryptomixer and it split up my money into like 100 wallets. Is there any way I can do this without using a service? Quite interesting

Cryptomixer.us website is a scam. It is one of many freshly-registered phishing websites that copies design of our trusted mixing service [banned mixer], established back in 2016. We have added this phishing website to the scammers list on our ANN thread:

So far I have just heard the name of this site, and I have never used it. But what I see is that this site provides transaction services that are safer and cannot be tracked, but I have not tried it

The best way to explain this is for me to take a ATM withdrawal as an example. Once you draw money from a ATM, the transaction is recorded on the Banks internal ledger and they can identify the person linked to that withdrawal. If they recorded the serial numbers on the cash, they can track who withdraw that money and if they follow you, then they can track where that money goes.

So what you do is, you spend that money at a merchant and you get change and that change can then not be tracked, because someone had to record the serial numbers of all the money that was used at that merchant.

The same happens with Mixers or Tumblers, because they mix your coins with other people's coins and put them back onto the Blockchain   Wink     Roll Eyes

Quite interesting. Are you sure you really used cryptomixer.us? Because it's a clone of https://[banned mixer]/
I also remember a few people joining the forum to say they got scammed by this mixer. If anyone is planning to use this service, be careful and DYOR.

Funny that the only complete address he remembered was from a fake website. This is an attempt to scam users, beware. There are thousands of fake addresses with clone sites. Always research before using such a service.
Not only that OP could also be associated with the other mixer too. He mentioned bitcoin fog which has a bad reputation and have been scamming a lot of users.

For the others, if research isn't enough you can always create a thread on the service discussion sub board and ask questions on a certain service(mixers, etc).

Exactly, a newbie account and just trying to mask his intention from behind. And just by looking at his username, lol. It looks like he has some bad intentions so just beware though, specially in can trick newbies to go to the site sh/he mentioned.

you're right, this thread is just another scam attempt/trick to deceive people to use the fake site
there are also a few other different newbie users created different threads discussing the site
they make it to look like a legit discussion thread with intention to direct people to fake site link

Off-chain transactions show up nowhere.

they have to show up: in your channel, and also for the other person in your channel (there must be 2). So at least 1 person extra knows you have money, because they relayed it to you. That person has no idea where the money came from though.

It works by sending your coins to another person's destination and another person's coins go to yours. You can't do it without other people. However, you can use the Lightning Network instead of a service. It is an effective mixer because transactions are done off-chain and go through other people.

I'd never thought about that. Lightning is the best mixer there is for that reason! Off-chain transactions show up nowhere.

Is there any way I can do this without using a service?
Yes, you can do this, only need a trusted third party and will give you some privacy layer.
Using mixers will increase the difficulty but even with that services, the track-ability is possible [read more ----> Breaking Mixing Services]

The best solution  is to exchange your BTC into cryptos based on privacy "Monero" and resend your coins or use Chipmixer "remember it is linked to trust."
I don't think that this is worth the hassle. I definitely would not want to convert my crypto into a privacy based currency that you mentioned in order to make it tougher to trace since this just over complicates things.

For the average joe, mixers are the most effective and efficient tools to get the job done in this case.

While such tumblers may make tracking more difficult, it is my understanding that some of the software used by law enforcement is able to track flows to and from the tumblers to specific individuals.
