This is a great feat and a wonderful addition to Bitcoin's historical events. Bitcoin is no longer unknown like the way it was some 3-4 years ago. Currently, over 80-90% of all banks are aware of bitcoin and what it does to the financial industry. 2017 was a great year which saw bitcoin hitting $20,000+ all time high and a market capitalization of over $800+ billion dollars. 2018 promises to be even better. Won't be surprised to see bitcoin on the top of the most read articles.

I think this is not surprising. People see what Bitcoin is capable of. They are interested in learning more about it. Most likely our future will be connected with this crypto currency. And it is reasonable to study it already at this stage. I think that in 2018 the bitcoin article in Wikipedia will rise even higher in the number of views.

That is an impressive remark for bitcoin. In a world with numerous innovations every day, bitcoin being able to be the 9th most read about thing is really pretty big for it. No doubt it is growing in popularity, thanks to all the ups and downs. If things were always normal for bitcoins, this wouldnt have been the case. Its the rapid fluctuatio  that made bitcoin a hot topic for readers.

Hope the popularity remains same in coming days and the fluctuation remains as calm as possible while maintaing the steady growth it has picked upon. With so much options for the userbase out their by the advent of allot of newer cryptocurrency, bitcoin still holds the top position and this is comendable.

I'm not surprised that its more popular than Gal Gadot and The Rock, even though they have successful movies during that year its what's making the money more popular. BTC ended December with a bang and I think thats one of the reason why it became popular as even the mainstream media are showing news related to Bitcoin. That is why it made a lot of people curious on what it is, and of course their number one source of information by default would be Wikipedia. But don't be surprised if it won't retain it's spot as its popularity might slid down when majority of the people are aware of it.

9th!!! Really!!!! I never thought Bitcoin could make it in top 100 in 2017. This is really amazing. But I gotta say, in 2018, lots of people are moving away from Bitcoin. The fall was a huge fall and seems to me it has become a pretty normal thing. But the price is rising now. Hope people will still keep their hopes.
It was normal because of the pump that happened(and many people who wanted to get rich quick got attracted to it). Those who have lost hopes though are the ones who just got into the BITCOIN HYPE/GET RICH QUICK HYPE(what I would like to call the event where many newbies who have little to no experience in trading and no knowledge in economics bought btc for profit when it was near all time high).

This isn't much of a surprise to me, given how popular bitcoin was at the end of 2017. It's a shame that so many will have looked at wikipedia, I don't think it's the best way for encouraging new investment and advertising the benefits of bitcoin, a lot of the page is too technical and will lose the majority of readers somewhere along the way

No wonder it would be ranked within the top 10, considering how much noise bitcoin made during its run to almost $20k. Several local and international media outlets have sensationalized the bull run so much that's why the Google trends regarding bitcoin boomed up as well. Many people are still clueless about how bitcoin really works that's why they relied their understanding and knowledge to the web which contains a vast number of useful articles that help the newbie understand the basics of the crypto. Hopefully though, people remain fascinated and interested with the wonders of bitcoin and cryptocurrency and not just its value rising in an unusual manner.

With it's surge towards the end of 2017, it makes sense why it would drive the interests to the public. During December, the number of times I was able to talk to people at bars about bitcoin was dramatically increased than it was the previous years.

Bitcoin's push to 20k made news in 2017. The popularity of a Wikipedia article usually depends on the subject making news. Hopefully, Bitcoin will make more news in 2018 and so will other cryptos.

Bitcoin is more popular than Wonder Woman and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson on Wikipedia

tnw

Gone are the days when you had to personally break down the concept of Bitcoin to your less informed friends and family. Wikipedia has got them all up to speed now.

The 2017 edition of the annual ‘Top 50 Report’ of Wikipedia shows that Bitcoin was the ninth most-read article on the digital encyclopedia for last year.

Bitcoin’s article got a total of over 15 million views, less than a million short of the views for the entry on the US.

The list shows that Bitcoin got 1 million more views than Wonder Woman, 2.6 million more than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and 2 million more than Elon Musk.

In a witty and poetic entry written by Wikipedia Senior Editor JFG, Bitcoin is described as something that is the highly speculative and intangible — but still would have been a better investment than Tesla stocks in 2017:

For our dear readers who can’t make heads or tails of this novelty: Bitcoin is as good as gold, shinier than lead, bubblier than tulips, held deep in the mines, and driving people nuts.

Gold has enriched adventurers and itcoin has held fools to ransom. You may dive in a pool of gold, but lose it all at war. Strangely, while you can still buy gold today and forget about it until your great-grandchildren cash it out, the much-hyped “future of money” has turned into the most speculative intangible asset of all time, while proving totally unsuitable as a means of payment. Still, over 2017 at least, itcoin would have been a better investment than Tesla stock.

Other cryptocurrencies still seem to be trailing far behind when it comes to popularity among the general population. There’s no other cryptocurrency related article that could make it to the list of top 50.

But, even the 5000 most popular article in the last week feature only four articles from the cryptocurrency realm — Bitcoin (354), Blockchain (312), Cryptocurrency (1273), and Ethereum (3710).

The term blockchain is getting more search queries now than Bitcoin, which also shows that people are diving deeper into the world of cryptocurrencies and trying to understand the technology behind it.
