I don't think hacking is the obvious one. What a mighty coincidence it would be that someone's account only gets hacked after they die.

Realistically speaking - no - the way you put it.
But my objection was more towards the imposter being in control from the beginning. I just don't see that.

Of course one of his family members retrieving the funds and account is also plausible as someone suggested elsewhere, but then that would mean one of his family members is the sort of scumbag that would do this, which is less likely than he just gave his account to someone he spoke to online.

We can agree to leave his family out of this, and go back to the main question:

"Did Bruno voluntarily give access to his account?" [for money or without]
My line of thinking indicates a solid "no", for various reasons, the main one being the failed Gleb account sale.

But since we are at it, how plausible would an inside job scenario be, just to smear Bruno's account and contribution, for constantly busting scam-friendly alt accounts?
Pretty hilarious bud, I know. Wink

I said that exception since Gleb is no longer related to Bruno from 2 years.
Buying accounts isn't prohibited in the forum, same goes for having it as collateral. Since Suchmoon is controlling that account, then it is his property and no longer Bruno's one.
For the other 3 accounts, that we are aware about, there is no sign that it changed hands hence it is the property of a deceased person, hacked in a way or another by a strange guy claiming to be a dead person. Such impersonation shouldn't be allowed (exactly like satoshi's account) and the accounts should be locked (or banned).
Now if a Bruno's close relative (inheritance?) wants to control the account or what we supposed to be a hacker claims he bought the account, then they should prove it (solid proof) and handling the account to them could be discussed.

Sure, but someone could have purchased Gleb's accounts behind the scenes therefore they're now arguably the 'legitimate' property of someone else. Proving it would be easy to fake so I'm not sure what would be valid evidence. Currently there's no forum policy on what happens to the accounts of the deceased but maybe now's time to discuss it, and especially the ramifications of what could happen when we allow them to be either locked of transferred, but going by theymos' post below he'll probably largely keep out of it and let the forum police itself on these matters:

Is it 100% confirmed that he died? That everhere.com site kind of looks like a scam... Though based on Bruno's recent posts, it seems plausible.

In general, giving titles/badges to users who died is difficult/problematic. It's almost a sort of "KYC", since death is inextricably linked to one's physical identity. It also opens several cans of worms: for example, should the account be locked after the person died? If so, it prevents their heirs from accessing PMs or even selling the account (which is allowed). If not, then you'd have users actively posting while wearing "RIP" badges.

I'm not going to do it regularly, but I'll make an exception here and give VIP status & a custom title to Phinnaeus Gage and Gleb Gamow. However, I know that these accounts changed hands in the past, and maybe arrangements have been for this to happen again in the future; therefore, if either account ever posts in the future, I will remove this stuff from the account.

I called the Boersma Funeral Home, and the person who answered confirmed that he knew Bruno, and he had passed. I just thought people would like to know so we can end the speculation about Bruno himself.
There is enough evidence that the account is controlled by another person claiming to be Bruno ("dead") and until proven otherwise, i call for a permaban or a lock for all Bruno's accounts (except maybe Gleb which is controlled by suchmoon normally).
Can we lock the topic?

Why would that account be exempt from banning though? Why wouldn't whoever has access to his other accounts now be allowed to keep them? Maybe someone bought his accounts like suchmoon did, but would that mean they're allowed to keep them until they do something bad with them? Banning/locking the accounts of the deceased is a complex issue but it doesn't look like we've got an official forum policy on it from theymos, but I don't think they should be locked on a whim.

Well, that's your opinion, not mine.
I'm seeing two different personalities here, based on what I read and feel, exactly as I already mentioned.

What needs connecting, is the dots after Bruno's death.
I believe he was in control till then, and his death synced in just fine.

@Yoshi forgot one key thing in his photos comparison - beards don't grow that fast.
yes, I didn't compare @Bruno's beard, because in the first photo he posted, while in the hospital, it didn't show a bearded photo, but @Phinnaeus Gage said it was the latest photo at the moment.
If it is true that it is @Bruno's I think it was taken before @Bruno's performed brain surgery, still in early treatment at the hospital.

Agreed - I'd say that's very likely.

In Bruno's pre-death Plead pic he was scruffy, but mostly clean shaven. However, a month post-death, Bruno's grown his full beard again.  Anyone wanna bet the pic came from Bruno's phone and was taken months ago?
not sure, @Phinnaeus Gage can get his latest photo from Bruno, except @Phinnaeus Gage took 80s photos when Bruno didn't have a beard.
No new photos and no active accounts after @Bruno's was declared dead, except the current account is held by frauds and prostitutes.

I'm working on something for the Known Alts thread at the moment, hopefully I can get it done before tomorrow.  (this is to identify any other alts Bruno may have had which the hacker may also have gained access to and will likely go on to scam here).

At the moment, I think we need to "follow the money" and see where the Plead donation funds went.

Whoever is behind this scam is going to be sorry. The cheat never came back because we already knew he was a fake.
The members who donated the money to donate to someone who died do not even realize that it is just another benefit. He is still alive on earth but his soul is burning in hell. He will pay for what he has done. Whether he gets back or uses the alt account, he might create another scene and what a fuss.

Rest in peace brother Bruno and let this fake Bruno to die in hell, F you MF. It's sad that Bruno's account ended up this way. May be theymos can consider locking Phinnaeus Gage account, also restore the text that was in this post. Those last words from Bruno are important part of the history of bitcointalk.

I think we are witnessing two different series of events.

1. Bruno made a plead, just before he died.
2. His account was sold/hacked.

The way I see it, the hacker/buyer waited for the funds to be moved by Bruno's family, to start posting using Bruno's Cage account.
If that hypothesis is correct, then the imposter will never be able to sign anything from the plead donation address.

Or the person who made that donation thread was whoever Bruno sold or gave the account to. That would be the more likely situation in my opinion.

It probably wasn't hacked. Just think of how much of a coincidence it is that your account would get hacked very shortly after you die. Why wasn't it hacked whilst he was alive? Accounts don't magically become easy to hack once someone has died. He'd sold or attempted to sell his accounts before so it's not surprising that this happened. Hopefully the person in charge of the account will fill us in on what happened since the account is ruined now anyway.
I got you. It is not possible for an account to be hacked at this time  Roll Eyes Bruno seems to have a lot of difficulties around money. The fact that he was sick was real, so he tried to sell his account for extra money. But the question is when this account changes owners, will the donation we raise be used for himselt? Or it is used for someone else. The current owner is trying to cheat this community again, I think he won't publish the truth  Roll Eyes

The account isn't banned as of yet.

Bruno's previously unknown alt UID Bitcoin 100 was banned in 2018 and six weeks later he sold his Gleb Gamow UID to Suchmoon.  (Ban evasion perhaps??) ??

I doubt theymos banned him, as, for what I know, theymos doesn't ban anyone at first sight. Most likely, he is waiting for some time (as we all do), for a proof of ownership from Bruno. And this can't be less than 24h, in my opinion, maybe even more. I believe theymos is giving him (the account) a chance. But if no proof will be provided soon, most likely, the account will be banned or locked.

You should have looked when the said account was logged in last, be rest assure that, Theymos himself got angry with this scenario and probably ban or locked the account to curb further spread of this disease in the community. Giving this account a chance is an encouragement to scammers around the world to hack and extort gullible users in this industry and I believe Theymos won't take such sh**t for a friend. @Bruno is dead and buried.

How do you know it wasn't this guy who posted that? The funds moved recently so it's probable.

Cripes, I think we were suckered. I didn't realize 34 outputs, pretty much every transaction ever sent to it, were moved to another wallet address the day before the hacker started posting. https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/fc73ccf71eccb2f1783e8ca5236c1073aeb4970eed20c24268d90207f869ec48

He can create an alt and post a signed message in Meta to claim that it's him (Bruno) only, so not banning him till now has nothing to do with giving him a chance. I guess the last statement from that account itself proved that he's not Bruno and I don't think he's still left unbanned because you can see that he's not come online nor did he responded ahead.

@theymos,
WARNING: ACCOUNT HACKED

If this guy is Bruno, nobody will ever trust any donation campaigns and will even leave the forum just because a highly trustworthy member cheated on the whole community with an extremely disgusting joke.
@Bruno, if you were Bruno for real, we'd definitely love to accept you. But what about our condolences that we gave you and where were you? You just moved your funds 2 days back and you're saying that you used them for your recovery? WTF!

Another thing, Bruno is/was not the kind of guy to express his favors that he did for the community over time. He won't ask us the way you did.

Assuming Bruno is actually dead, he probably sold his account to someone and the person who posted the donation address was the scammer, but you never know with Bruno.

Which is why I said IF this guy is Bruno.
I believe even if this is someone else (and while Bruno knew he'll be dying soon), he should have logged out from his account and/or deleted all his passwords from every place so not to let this happen. But let him RIP, and let us not believe in this guy who claims to be Bruno! My guess is someone from the nursing home decided to steal OP's phone, and once they discovered he was logged in, they decided to use his account to scam.
Sick.
Seriously? You think someone from the nursing home would know what this site is or to bother posting on it. This place would probably the last site a random person would be interested in.
That would just be his Lucky Guess, I think?  Tongue
He probably sold his account . The person who posted the donation thread probably wasn't Bruno either. They used pretty old photos at the time so they're probably just using photos he sent them like the one above.
There could be a possibility. Also there could be a possibility that it was just his scam 'final exit-scam',... so yeah,... it was indeed, a scam.

I never knew Bruno, as I stated before, but I donated for his cause. Not much, but I wanted to help a man in need.

What I really don't understand, if - let's say - OP is Bruno indeed, how comes he never thanked anyone for donations, after this miracle recovery? Although he didn't knew actually who donated for him, but if OP was Bruno, I believe he would first write in the other topic something like "thank you all for your support! I managed to recover etc.". But this didn't happen.

Alternatively, he could post am image with a note from his departure from the hospital. But this also did not happen...
The ones who knew him here knew he was dead and didn't really have a miracle recovery like you said. The creator of this thread is a cheat because he can't prove that he is the real Bruno. Those who really know him here on the forum know when it will publish his posts. Many of us are still unsure of how and where the fraud began.

Well I can't say I'm surprised.

I exchanged money what is your guys issue I've done so much for everyone here, am i not wanted guys?

@theymos,
WARNING: ACCOUNT HACKED

He probably sold his account . The person who posted the donation thread probably wasn't Bruno either. They used pretty old photos at the time so they're probably just using photos he sent them like the one above.

Cripes, I think we were suckered. I didn't realize 34 outputs, pretty much every transaction ever sent to it, were moved to another wallet address the day before the hacker started posting. https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/fc73ccf71eccb2f1783e8ca5236c1073aeb4970eed20c24268d90207f869ec48

Bruno may have kept his forum account open to anyone who knows blockchain/cryptocurrency and is now using fraud. Unfortunately for Bruno, maybe he trusted this guy but it was bad intentions. It is impossible for Bruno's device/s data to be compromised if he only knows it and of course he knows how to secure it only if he has actually informed them.

I'm thinking, maybe the accounts could have been compromised not long after hospitalization. Maybe even while Bruno was alive and/or unconscious.
Could the fact that the first post praises hospital staff be a clue? Who knows.
The Gleb account actually solicited donations to one of his old BTC addys for Bruno's final wish.
https://web.archive.org/web/20200502202422/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5236380.0

It's weird that the 'final wish' funds hadn't moved until ~2 days before the resurfacing and obituaries had appeared before...
And even more weird that it happened after obituaries were posted.

See: 1FkHCFv8PN1kerJct3RsQQpMcRoTnx2vWe
Now posts in the account claim Bruno is miraculously back, money from his old addresses moves, and the proof presented is old pictures.

Hard to be sure for how long a potential compromise could have been on.
But also, if Bruno was knowingly dying, wouldn't he have left a wish or at least some instructions for what to do with his coins?

I'm thinking that the obituaries are real (because who tf fakes that stuff?). And because the alleged compromiser appears to have access to many personal accounts of Bruno, that it was probably someone that somehow got a hold of his unprotected device(s) after death and had malintent. Perhaps something unpredictable happened during hospitalization and bruno went a little before his time, hence the non-transfer of BTC until today.

Too much speculation, but this might be the most baffling thread I've seen here. Bruno's posts were surprising at times, but who would have thought his account could have topped that post-mortem.

This incident was serious, it was getting crazy. That is, the fact that he asked for help to be used for his funeral had nothing to do with the real Bruno. Apparently, the real Bruno's account was hacked before the scam was even made. As long as he has not yet proved that he is Bruno's heart no one should believe him. However, it is obvious that he is not really based on his posts today.

I doubt Bruno is still alive and whatever the situation turns to be (disgusting in all imaginable cases) i am calling for locking Bruno's accounts.

this is quite a surprise for me tbh.  if someone will do more digging from this situation, we will know the truth later on. anyway, once lockdown is over, if a forum user is nearby from the hospital that he was in before, he can always check the hospital, right? but for now, let's see what he's up to, if this is someone who is taking over his acct, we will know about that on his future posts because we know how he posted things here...interesting!!!

My guess is someone from the nursing home decided to steal OP's phone, and once they discovered he was logged in, they decided to use his account to scam.

Sick.
This may be the truth, there is no other possible scenerio I can imagine. If this is true, I think they had access to the wallet too or the whole donation thing is a drama created by the scammer and Bruno has nothing to do with that.
It would be easy enough for the OP to prove he is alive by posting a current picture, but instead, the OP posted a ~5-month-old picture from what I presume to be his hospice/nursing home.

Check his previous post, do you still believe he's Bruno?
Someone who just made us know about his countless favors can't be Bruno. He did a lot for the entire community but never asked anything in return, nor did he expressed such shit that this person just said. I won't believe this guy even if he does what you have asked him to do, and that's because I'm getting a strong feeling this old guy can't be him.
I never followed Bruno much but from what you are saying if this is true then this is sad that a wrong person also got the access of the funds. Would you tell it a coincident that those funds were moved two days ago and the content of the post he was asking help was deleted 12 hours ago and now this topic?

Some other guy was saying something that this account was compromised before that topic was made and if this is true then the funds gone to the wrong organization or person where everyone thought this was Bruno himself.

With literally thousands of nonprofit agencies seeking funding worldwide, and many conducting numerous successful and yes, unsuccessful, fundraising drives, there's no reason, at all, for not having several--eventually hundreds--of them incorporating a Bitcoin donation option, complementing their current income stream.

In the offering up of this beneficial solution to augment selected nonprofit organizations, I propose the following: Bitcoin100:

Bitcoin100 is nothing more than at least 100 supporters pledging then, hopefully, honoring at least 1 BTC prior to each time a charitable organization expresses interest in embedding a Bitcoin donation button, or acceptable equivalent, onto their website.

At first, there'll be no need to necessarily donate Bitcoin. What's desired, at the onset, is more than 100 individuals stating that they'll pledge (without having to gift at this stage) at least 1 BTC to Bitcoin100 then, eventually, honoring that pledge toward only causes they're most comfortable with, for this endeavor to fully function accordingly--as I currently envision it. The reason for requiring a minimum of 100 supporters is to guarantee, optimistically, that at least 100 BTC rests in the initial wallet when charitable organizations are ultimately approached.

So, to get started, simply state that you would like to pledge to Bitcoin100 and your name will be added to the supporter's list above. As we approach the 100 BTC mark in the wallet, we'll collectively vote on which organization we want to target first. Once over the 100 supporters threshold, the requests will go out to those on the list, to begin honoring their at least 1 BTC pledge. When the at least 100 BTC goal is reached, Bitcoin100 approaches the voted upon charitable organization with Bitcoin in hand. If they decline our gesture of goodwill, the next charitable organization is approached with the exact same offer, and so down the line, until one eventually accepts the simple terms, thereupon transferring the already funded wallet to their nonprofit corporation's Bitcoin account. After the first prospect comes aboard, success will become easier during the pursuing of others.

Ideally, it would be nice if each person who pledges to Bitcoin100, does so with the knowledge that they may be donating to at least 100 charitable organizations during the upcoming year. But it's not a deal breaker if one pledges only 1 BTC now then, at a later date, only exercises the honoring of said commitment. I firmly believe that after the act of simply building the supporter's list for Bitcoin100, the rest will take care of itself.

Gaia willing, when Bitcoin re-bubbles, you can always adjust the at least 1 BTC donation option, thereby better suiting your financial position and resources.

~Bruno~
