better everyday ♥
That's the scraggliest looking fugliest flag ever.  Doesn't represent Bitcoin or it's community very well at all.

I mean, I appreciate the overall gesture and idea, but the execution leaves alot to be desired even if he reaches the peak...

It really looks like something I'd wipe my ass with!   Cry

A member from the Bitcoin Brazilian Community is climbing Everest and, if he succeeds, will put a Bitcoin flag almost on the top of the Earth's highest mountain. The current news is that Allex Ferreira (the mentioned member of BR community) will arrive to the Everest Base Camp in about 4 days, where he should put the Bitcoin flag (at an altitude of ~5,000 meters).

Here is one picture: https://i.imgur.com/323Iadd.jpg

If it succeeds, Bitcoin will be (really) nearest to the Moon. Go Allex! Go Bitcoin!

I'm not very excited by the idea. They already have serious problem with all the rubbish left behind by the climbers (not to mention over 200 dead bodies).

If succeeded, the flag won't be even at the top, and, to be honest, it's not the prettiest of flags:

Bitcoin will be launched in the orbit (http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-nanosatellites-orbit-earth-2016/), and now to the mount everest,
i think people took the words "bitcoin rise"  too literally.
It would be a nice project and idea if the flag was to be put at the very top, altho even this is a risky endeavour, and many things can go wrong,
its kind of a "lame" ring to it (almost to the top), either make it to the top or dont go at all, thats the bitcoin slogan  Roll Eyes

cheers

It would be cool if they sent tons of computers that act as nodes in the space, so even if they shut down the internet we could still have the blockchain working.

I have an even better idea?  How about sneaking into the Nazca site in Peru and putting down the flag!  Oh, I guess someone thought of that already.  But Greenpeace are pussies and only did cloth flags.  If they really believed in their message they would have trenched it in.  Bitcoiners could still show the world how to do it properly.

There's also still some whitespace on some of the glyphs in Egypt.

He could. He's only excuse is that it might have been 'last-minute' idea, which he came up with while he was already there.

Nevertheless, I wish him good luck, climbing Everest can be pretty dangerous.

Oh, that makes more sense to me.  Smiley
I wish him good luck too

They're only going to base. If I remember correctly, I think that's 5000 metres. That's not really "close to the top".

Regarding the flag, we should of been notified at least 3 months before so we could of at least put something together like putting funds together to create a decent looking flag.
We could've also received sponsorships from major bitcoin related companies/websites, maybe even the foundation could help out here.

All in all, it's still something, we should be grateful they put in something to actually get outside and do something unlike us who just sit in front of our computers staring at the forum.

It would be funny if he gets 95% of the way to the top, and then manages to tumble all the way down to 25% elevation and survives, plants flag.

He's going to place the flag at 5,000 meters which is really no where near the top. I think the idea is cool if he made it all the way to the top to plant it and would come with a certain amount of infamy within the bitcoin community. Also he could have spent a few more bucks on a nice flag >.<

I wouldn't do this just for the sake of putting a bitcoin flag at the top but for a personal goal and the flag placement is by default. There's just way too much that can go wrong and this is hardly a walk in the park.
