I have been thinking about this and thought to put it here what's on my mind.
Just think that if some other altcoin has the potential to take place of bitcoins, like people are talking about Monero to take its place because of its privacy and security, what would happen to bitcoins? Is there any altcoin currently which can do this? And if yes, what would be the effect on bitcoins?

most of the coins that claim this will soon die because it is mostly hype. you can see what has happened to ethereum with all its bugs and hacks. and in case of monero although it has some nice features for privacy but it always had these features and it doesn't look like they changed anything about its fate all this time, and only it began rising when a small news and then bigger hype started spreading.

i would think about this question only if there is a valid competition for bitcoin and there is none yet!

It is still the same. Trying to recreate bitcoin is really hard for them. So they thought of something which could look like it but holes are always there. A lot of alts came and some are already lost. There is still one that is left standing even when it fell. It is bitcoin.

The network effect of bitcoin is to big now to be over taken.  Most people still dont know about bitcoin never mind Monero,  yes it might be heard off in the crypto community but to the average joe it is nothing
but here i see a possible problem for bitcoin. more specific that most people do not know about bitcoin yet. so if some altcoin could come up with a special feature or a big marketing campaign, then bitcoin might get some real competition.

While Monero will be the In-thing for a while, it will only be a short term hype, until the scammers are caught and the sites using it on the Darkweb are

exposed. Then people will run back to Bitcoin in their droves. Bitcoin are always the rock to hold on, when things run out of control in the Alt coin scene. We

saw that happening with ETH and many of the other Alt coins that were hyped and dumped.  Roll Eyes
yes, bitcoin has proven itself and there is a whole ecosystem build around it. and as long as no other coin can match this, bitcoin is the way to good. and believe me that is not easy to generate such an big and strong network like bitcoin.
The community is a huge thing that keeps Bitcoin in the top spot and keeps it valuable, one of the biggest issues more alts run into are getting a community behind them before the coin is overtaken by speculators who will pump and dump it and screw it over before it can be used for whatever its intended purpose was. Having a network and having the number of people Bitcoin does basically ensures it will be in the #1 position for a while yet.

a natural thing monero supporters say it as it may also ethreum supporters would say the same thing but the fact altcoin will never be able to take position of bitcoin.

I agree in fact there is much more better altcoin  than monero or ethereum, those post about these coin being the bitcoin alternative or even surpass bitcoin is just a baseless hype,  They  should first define the things bitcoin has and compare  it to them especially user base and coin usage.  Technology can easily be copied but user base and usage  or mass adoption is surely hard to duplicate.

Bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency at the moment and I don't see any altcoin that is better nowadays. But the alternatives to bitcoin are litecoin and dogecoin that can be a secondary option.
of course it is the best and i doubt that it might be replaced in the near future, i hope that it is going to grow only and never fall, that would be awesome

There is no any security bug with bitcoin also and bitcoin is completely anonymous not easy to track. So i don't think we need any bitcoin alternative as almost all coins are just clone of bitcoin.

i agree but now the two of coins is really down and needed to support so the coin will be raise like other coins. and actually, there are no bitcoin alternative. and this is why bitcoin is more famous, because until now, not much coins that give easy way to exchange into fiat like bitcoins.

we can't compare anything with bitcoins Because its first and best digital coin and price is also too high when compare with any altcoins and doge is next emerging coin but price is low when you compare with bitcoin.

There are many coin alternative but can't replace the position of bitcoin, it has strong base and good price, as we can see it keep increasing every year and has many user worldwide.

Etherum is one altcoin that has good potential but I don't think it can replace Bitcoin. New altcoins are emerging all the time, probably with the purpose to be competitive with Bitcoin maybe even to take its place but so far I don't see how this can happen. Bitcoin is still one of the kind.

I think there's no altcoin that has the potential to exceed Bitcoin's potential. All and each altcoin out there base its price with Bitcoin. If bitcoin price goes down, all those altcoin goes down as well in USD value. The moving market, the inability to revert payments, and of course the anonymity privilege that we get from Bitcoin is really something.

The reverting of payment and the anonymity privilege may able be done by any altcoin as well but the market of Bitcoin is just very different from altcoins. An altcoin usually dies usually after the dev decides to get the solicited money and just go away or if people just lose interest on that specific altcoin. Both of these is very highly unlikely to happen with Bitcoin.

It is indeed true, that altcoin is now already have good growth can take over the place of the King of altcoin held by bitcoin. But I see that this will not happen in the present or the future. Because altcoin and has the distinction of the bitcoin is very striking, namely price. I see that altcoin is dependent on the price of the bitcoin. so it would never undermine the position of the bitcoin

Wont be that easy. How do you think you will work out with the users trust in just an instant. It takes time to build some people that will get hooked with it. Looked what happens to different altcoins. Created then just lost without anyone supporting it will be a problem.

Bitcoin is really hard to get replaced by any alternative coin as because all altcoins are compared and priced on the basis of bitcoin, you can see on all exchanges that the altcoin are sold for bitcoins and not for any fiat currency like bitcoin. So it is clear that bitcoins is the main coin to whom all altcoin are circulating.

Your analysis is 100% correct. Bitcoin is the base currency for all altcoins, their value is measured in BTC. In addition, Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that has significant real world usage. Compared to Bitcoin, purchasing goods and services with alternative crypto's is much harder and in most cases impossible. Their acceptance is almost zero.

The developer community behind all those altcoins is much smaller than behind Bitcoin. Even if some of the altcoins have some innovations, that doesn't necessarily mean that they can compete with Bitcoin. Bitcoin has by far the largest network effect, therefore it is much more likely that certain useful features of altcoins will be integrated into Bitcoin (making the original altcoin obsolete), rather than that altcoins will replace Bitcoin.

To replace Bitcoin, a much more innovative idea is needed that goes far beyond than improving some features of the cryptocurrency design.
