Bought my first bitcoins today: $80 worth of bitcoins at $580 per BTC.

Then hours later the MtGox insolvency document was leaked. Now they're trading at ~$520 per BTC according to preev.com.

Not the best timing.

I intend to hold onto them for years though so I'm not too worried. Smiley

The price was going down hill for the last 48hrs(nothing to do with gox), and now we have the gox issue...crash.

You are seriously misguided if you think the price going down the last 48h (more the last two weeks actually) had "nothing to do with gox"

Gox has always been around looming as a potential plague on the reputation of Bitcoin.
That potential plague is now actual. Bitcoiners will get over it, realise that there are much more efficient, competent exchanges around, and readily available. And then it'll be back to normal.

How soon will it take for masses to go to other exchanges ?

I don't believe gox was having an impact on other exchanges, but if it was the impact will be just massive now.

Better sell whoever is still on a profit, it will go very low and stay like that. If you are not on a profit maybe it is better to hold and wait.

This seems lie a great opportunity to buy  Smiley

At around $100, if it does look like going even lower, i think it is worth to buy all you can. More than that is VERY risky. The price was going down hill for the last 48hrs(nothing to do with gox), and now we have the gox issue...crash.

Here is the secret to trading...

When prices are high, cash-out for money... Lots of it...

When prices are low, cash-in for BTC... Lots of it...

What a novel idea! I know, right... Apparently that concept is catching-on... Just an observation I made the last few years I have been here. Might try it now! Looks like it works real well for a bunch of other people.

Shhh... don't tell everyone, or you will screw it up for the rest of us.

Do you trust an exchange to hold your money or coins?

I do, for a couple of hours (for BTC) or days (for fiat). And I observe them, read a lot about them before using them. For small amounts at first, and limited amounts afterwards.

When I want to buy 2 BTC at Bitstamp, I make a fiat deposit, as soon as it's credited I exchange it to BTC, and withdraw it.
When I want to sell 2 BTC at Bitstamp, I make a BTC deposit, as soon as it's credited I exchange it to fiat, and withdraw it.

Am I more intelligent that the average person? Common... why would you use an exchange like a deposit bank, seriously?

The weak hands is selling their bitcoin because mtgox is closing. Very irrelevant. Now is the time to buy bitcoin.

You don't get it!

Do you trust an exchange to hold your money or coins?

I don't.
