Rumor travels fast. Now it has become the headline of btc38, which is the major altcoin exchange.

Your DNS is broken. That's not the forum's IP address. Adding the correct IP (109.201.133.195) to your hosts file is a good idea. Tor will also work.

I don't completely block huge IP ranges like that.

now bitcointalk and getaddr.bitnodes.io are inaccessible from many places in China. It's obvious that the administrator blocked  Chinese IP. Visit from abroad is normal.

He knows that he's behind the world's largest censorship system, but yet he immediately assumes that two unrelated sites going down at the same time is a conspiracy by their operators to block Chinese users?? That's really stupid.

The IP in your first screenshot shows an IP in Azerbaijan yet BitcoinTalk is actually hosted in the Netherlands and your second screenshot shows different servers all resolving different IP's for BitcoinTalk.

This doesn't look good at all. Perhaps BitcoinTalk has been targeted by the great firewall of china. I sincerely hope this is not the case but this doesn't look good at all.

Can someone in China try connecting directly to the actual IP:

Does anyone find it weird that bitcointalk is resolving to different IPs? Seems like the ISPs and by extension, the government is behind it.

I don't think it is good decision. There are many people in China, who are really crazy about the bitcoin technology. It is not fair for them. Bitcoin belongs to the whole world and cant be decided by any single institution. Never mind. They will find a way to get in touch with it.

Starting from 20th September, most Chinese couldn't get access to bitcointalk.org.
8btc was the first to report the situation and weibo. Initial guess was that the GFW found a new target.

Later other website claimed that bitcointalk purposely block Chinese IP because

由于中国国内的杠杆和期货业务对比特币价格造成巨大波动,严重损害了比特币的价值。现国际比特币社区bitcointalk和比特币基金会下的节点网站getaddr.bitnodes.io均已屏蔽国内大部分IP。从国内大部分地方访问 getaddr.bitnodes.io 页面已经被禁止访问。明显是管理员设置了IP禁止,在国外访问正常。

Bitcoin's value has been greatly compromised by the margin trade and futures in Chinese exchange, now bitcointalk and getaddr.bitnodes.io are inaccessible from many places in China. It's obvious that the administrator blocked  Chinese IP. Visit from abroad is normal.

Somehow this has become the topic of the day among Chinese btcers. People blame this to the Chinese exchange that provides margin trade and futures like 796.com. Another new exchange announce yesterday that they will provide 50X margin.

A thread propose to change the Hosts file to visit bitcointalk, another thread here got response that Shanghai visit normal but many people are blocked and the Chinese subforum has become very quiet.

Thoughts?
