This META section is ALREADY the board for suggestions and proposals. But then, for being 4 years here in forum, haven't you noticed most suggestions are entertained in this section?

OK lets break down your suggestions:

You are right, I haven't been so active in many sections here in the last year, so that is why I almost forgot about this meta section. Not sure how the proposals are handled, if it is via community votes or by the staff choosing them according to which ones get their attention.

Perhaps what is missing in this forum is a section for proposals, if it exists already I haven't seen it.

This META section is ALREADY the board for suggestions and proposals. But then, for being 4 years here in forum, haven't you noticed most suggestions are entertained in this section?

OK lets break down your suggestions:

... a section for proposals...
Those proposals will help this site to become better and provide better service to its users.
  • Already answered, this meta is used for mostly serious forum discussions. Explicitly stated "Discussion about the Bitcoin Forum.". Hence, can contain suggestions.

Dissemination of information is a good idea! a lot of people is in the need to find practical and useful information to have it ready without having to spend a lot of time searching here and there. That would be a good feature to start with.
  • Beginners and Help can also be a section of updated news. Even local boards do contain such off-topic to Bitcoin and crypto but still were posted. What information to disseminate to be exact? There's a lot of types of information (political, social, personal, even tragic events can be an information) IN WHICH, can be found on various boards in here. Though it might be scattered, the boards would still focus and were categorized on what the user wants to see. Hence, one visits a board depending on his necessity.

Courses are a good idea too, so there is a lot to do in terms of improvements.
  • It is too freakin ugly to make this forum an online school platform. This is for the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, not for students who wants to both make school assignments and earn here.

Though you might find it a good idea, always keep in mind that this forum was made only for the cryptocurrency and digital money improvement. Not to be a server of the whole internet and be a platform of all informations to be found around the whole world.

This is a forum, not a social media website where teenagers post photos to get likes and comments.
Spot on, and sadly it isn't just teenagers who are using social media sites like Facebook.  Seems like everyone is on it these days, and that's scary to me.

LOL browsing on facebook and being added by old-aged people and even families are nightmare. It is indeed scary to see their personal life and they think having public attention is good.

The board description for Meta is "Discussion about the Bitcoin Forum", so I think this board is just fine for any proposals people may have. I don't think there are enough ideas like this one to warrant an entire board for them. Such a board would be next to deserted. I also don't think there is an issue with proposals per se that they specifically need to be collected in a single place to be discussed. Lots of users have lots of good ideas about how to improve the forum - the problem is with any of these proposals or ideas actually seeing the light of day. Even good ideas like the courses thread, which generate plenty of discussion and have a lot of agreement and support, very rarely develop in to anything useful or meaningful.

I really must get round to looking at this new fangled Facebook thing.
Don't waste your time. You can achieve the exact same experience by going to BuzzFeed and taking their "Which Harry Potter character are you?" quiz, going to Google Image Search and looking at pictures of Starbucks drinks, and emailing all your personal details to [email protected].

Can I make a formal request that we aim to not become the Facebook of anything.
Hear, hear.  Facebook is nothing but an informational black hole, whereby people willingly give up details of their life to a private corporation without knowing what's going to become of that info.  That's why I don't use social media, and not just Facebook.

OP was on my ignore list before I even opened this thread, and after reading his post I'm pretty sure I remember why I put him on it.

Instead suggesting that this platform can become even better in terms of allowing more tools to facilitate the knowledge to be shared with many more people
As much as I hate Facebook and everything that it stands for, OP does have a good idea underneath this, although he has obviously chosen a poor comparison to make it.

There are things we could do to improve the dissemination of knowledge amongst users, particularly users who are new to bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. theymos suggested establishing "courses" which were hosted/linked to the forum a few years ago, but unfortunately nothing ever came of it. (Thread: Idea: Courses) Such courses could also fulfil many of things which make Facebook so addictive to so many - gamified, points for completion, ranking up, share your achievements on your profile, and so forth. It could be a win-win - it would be good for the users because they would have an unbiased and moderator source of information to learn form, and it would be good for the forum because we would have users who are more educated and therefore more contributory.

The forum already hosts a lot of guides and educational threads, but unfortunately many of them aren't kept up-to-date, and recently I've been seeing many "Guide" threads started be people without a firm grasp on the subject themselves (perhaps seeking merit), which contain inaccuracies or errors, which then need to be corrected in the comments below. Perhaps collating these in to one place and then editing them for accuracy/ease of use would be a good first step.

The forum is already successful in terms but there's no way it will become a facebook of money or like a facebook itself.
Here, we share some valuable discussion where we get everyone involve as long as they are interesting in crypto, and making money here is not for everyone, there are people who make money while we can't also deny that there are people who lose money.

for me, I am quite satisfied with the status of this forum for now, well if there's more improvement the better and it's good to witness an increasing number of audience even if they will not register to make an account.

I really must get round to looking at this new fangled Facebook thing. Do you guys think it is here to stay?  The only use I see  of it is kids taking pictures down their throats. and giggling over them. The other use seems to be girls taking pictures up their skirts in McD, and sending those round the net. Maybe I've got it wrong, but I don't want to keep my wallet in my underwear. Smiley

*snip*

And not to mention the high amounts of false and misleading information. Like jeez, and what's worse, is people actually share them without even at least doing a quick fact check. It's pretty much just a breeding ground for spam now. Unfortunately Facebook is still hot in the PH as it took a bit of time before everyone used it; the US was ahead by a good number of years.

If you're looking for a bigger forum, Reddit will be the next stop instead of Facebook. And I don't like Reddit already.
You can't have an active forum with 500 million active users, and still be able to find useful topics.

Oooh I'd love targeted ads. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone's signature ad was based on the contents of their PMs.

Facebook is loosing grip the last few years. Many of my friends have deleted their profiles there, tired of all that crap happening. It used to be fun back in 2007, nowadays it's just a generator for faking you life. Some of the users get really addicted to this fake reality some just quit and move on. The saddest thing is that it reminds you for all those birthdays of your friends, makes you to post on their walls... so everyone "remembers" you on that day but don't give a sh!t during the whole year.. yea super cool... I used to remember all my friends birthdays, no need a reminder... not for me. I only follow the buy/sell groups.

So please, don't turn this wonderful forum in a soul-less bullshit reality.
If you wish only the popularity of facebook, that's should be the only similarity with Facebook.

Haven't seen a crazier idea than this idea  Roll Eyes First of all, this forum is not a social media platform, not towards something close like Facebook
Yes, I am referring to Facebook in terms of how popular it is and how successful has become reaching millions even in the small towns on the planet.
A social network can appear anywhere with people, it doesn't matter who the audience is   Wink But an official bitcoin forum needs more than  Smiley The audience and users must know or at least want to know about bitcoin, how many people out there know about the existence of bitcoin compared to people who know the existence of the internet? It is not possible to claim popularity because the knowledge base is still limited

Facebook of money? How will that look like Undecided ?
Maybe you can create one, I believe if it is making sense it will be adopted. One thing I know is that all app cannot be configured the same way, as long as the present one is not delivering lesser than expected. New innovations and upgrade is not bad though, our function on bitcoin has been linked to telegram, youtube, Twitter and facebook already.

It has reached popularity already, and it has been one of the pioneers in the crypto ecosystem. So it has many advantages if that idea would happen.
What do you want the bitcointalk forum to be used as a place: mothers do selfies, jokes and panoramic tourist attractions and full of photos of people crashing on the highway.
I do not imagine if you want this forum to be made as a social Facebook "How ironic if that happens" maybe I will close my account instead of seeing people's wedding photos.

Bitcointalk forum, has a very broad reach and relationship in the world, remains in the Cryptocurrency discussion method that deals with Digital Currency, especially Bitcoin.

No need to bring it to the valley to (to go astray).

Be careful what you wish for OP. Next thing you know Bitcointalk suddenly also has targetted ads and is also suddenly collecting every single personal data and activity of yours LOL.   /s

On the bright side, theymos gets to expose those scammers and whatnot Kappa

Not suggesting to do awful things Facebook does with people's information. Instead suggesting that this platform can become even better in terms of allowing more tools to facilitate the knowledge to be shared with many more people, as we know there is no point in the comparison between this forum and Facebook. At Facebook people waste too much time because it was designed for people looking for attention, but here it is more for people to learn and help themselves and others to find and offer crypto-financial knowledge.

This is a forum, not a social media website where teenagers post photos to get likes and comments. There is a very big difference and until you get to know that, you will realize that it's impossible.
Why would you want to emulate
1. A website full of censorship?
2. A website that gathers and sells your personal data for it's own profits

What do you mean by "facebook of money"? Do you think that this forum will be the next Facebook as it becomes the source of money from many people? I think bitcointalk has its own way and no need to become the next Facebook. Remember that bitcointalk is not a commercial group, while Facebook is owned by a company. And I think bitcointalk is created not for money purpose only. So, it is clearly enough about the differences between them. IMO

Can I make a formal request that we aim to not become the Facebook of anything. I don't think that is something anyone should be trying to emulate, especially a forum related to Bitcoin. If you are referring to Facebook's success in terms of audience, and reach instead of how Facebook conduct their business. Then I think that might be a little ambitious, as this isn't exactly a social media platform.

This crypto forum has helped a lot of people in terms of learning, sharing knowledge, earning money, etc, etc! but we haven't seen yet the whole potential that this forum could reach only if some investors can propose to the owner of this forum in order to convert it into something that could easily become the Facebook of money.

It has reached popularity already, and it has been one of the pioneers in the crypto ecosystem. So it has many advantages if that idea would happen.
