I don't see how this would help. It would only limit creativity. Why should we do that? I think people should only you their heads and that is all. Don't jump into something if you are not prepared to lose.

Most of the altcoins are pump and dump schemes. You want protection so that you can pump and dump without any other risks?
Kinda ironic don't you think?

Just have some common sense, and you will surely be fine. Don't put money into anything, that is not extensively trusted.

I believe this cannot be done. I believe this forum is for freedom believers not the way around. My suggestion is don't easily get fooled by those new coins and you will be golden.

I agree with this. If your going to release a coin you should tell us who you are and your plans for the coin and what they have to lose etc. I think TAG did this

it might stop cocksuckers like mrlotto/redcoin/topcoin <--- all 1 guy. from releasing multiple shitcoins just to rake in some dough from the communities hard work

you forgot SUN, prolly the same guy.

Is it possible that some new rules are implemented so that people cannot launch a coin from bitcointalk before they deliver proof who they are:

I would suggest:

1. Passport/ID (copy needs to be send to Bitcointalk)
2. Address (copy of billing address needs to be send to Bitcointalk)

Excellent idea. Why don't you start and put your scans in the thread? Thanks guv.

Don't think this will help honestly. And this forum should be free of use. If someone wants to prove their identity they can always use an escrow.

Not a good idea, I don't know if many people would be comfortable in uploading their passport.

Maybe some more suggestions from the community? We have been scammed by several people, and when people know the name of the coin owner then he will not make any mistakes as they will find him. We are talking here about real money, and miners/investors need some protections. There will be always scammers, but with now rules altcoin business will look much better later on...

Nooooooo, that is a horrible idea on so many levels. This is a forum, the fact that people can buy/sell things on the forum makes it as much of a financial institution as Craigslist, we ask you to do your own due dilligence, but besides that, its not the forum staff's job to filter people for suitable merchants. If we start doing background checks, we would run into all sorts of legal complications and become liable for scammers that we didn't correctly background check. Not to mention the most fundamentally flawed part, is that we dont want to know, nor do we care who you are. We dont want to know your personal info, we dont want to store your personal info on this site, and we dont want to be held liable for holding your personal info. Trade smart, caveat emptor y venditor, dont get scammed.

Just don't "invest" in IPO / IPCO scams and everyone will be just fine.

Both coins had scam written all over them. Everybody was warned, everybody wrote in that PANDA thread. The only problem is the shills used for fud and calling people names.

Everybody here knows who did what. Don't know 'bout Stackcoin , but if you dig you'll find the guy. It's possible.

Caveat venditor!

I think you've come to the wrong conclusion.  The problem is not the lack of regulation by bitcoinmods, its the incorrectly managed risk by people who put more than they're willing to lose on high risk investments.  NEVER invest more than you're willing to lose, and do your research about what you're investing in.  Turning bitcointalk mods into the SEC will hurt the community much more than help.  Not to mention now you have scammers stealing passports and identification.

you know, if Bitcoin or any other coin want to be taken seriously by the WHOLE world then you need SEC to control it a little. Of course in real world you also have a lot of fraud companies, but the difference with altcoins and the real world is that the fraud companies are getting punished and get what they wanted, 20 year jail or something like that.
LOL.  Ok, thats not funny, I'm sorry.  Yes I'm sure the smaller companies and banks which commit fraud do face jail time, but once you're big enough the SEC does NOT put you in jail.  You only pay a fine which you've already calculated will be worth the wrongdoing which you've committed.

But I differ from you a bit philosophically.  I think what will make cryptos break into the mainstream is its lack of regulation and true free market.

If you are a longterm member here and want to hide your id behind a different username.... why?

I do, because my normal username is my username for everything I do on the web for the past [many years] including friends and family. If they see I've created a coin, and see it with a million dollar market cap or higher, it'll make for all manner of awkward social occurrences. For the same reason you don't tell people your BTC balance. I've still got people I know to vouch for my real identity though, and can do it at will. In fact I know the developer right above your post, defaced, who made franko, I'm sure I have him on skype infact. But I still don't want everybody knowing my real nick unless I do something stupid, then it's released and my life turns to shit.

simple really.... don't trust people that show up 1 day before they launch a coin

If they only heard about this board and are already ready to launch a coin that sounds a bit off.

If you are a longterm member here and want to hide your id behind a different username.... why?
