Discussions were originally hosted on a sourcefourge mailing list I believe, and then the forum itself started at bitcoin.org/smf, then forum.bitcoin.org, and then was eventually moved to its own domain bitcointalk.org. I'm not sure if any migration itself was being done to any new servers but the DB theoretically should have been the same within SMF, moving between each address change, the forum would have just gotten a new address and ultimately the eventual name of Bitcointalk. This is why you see posts & users from before the domain was registered

Thank you for the info.

Was this domain re-registered after it expired?
You're asking the wrong questions Tongue The real question should be: "What is the forum?" Is that a domain name, or is it the post database including the (active) users? I'd argue it's the latter.

umm... The domain. SourceForge mailing list isn't a forum (And isn't created by Satoshi) but a communication tool (I am unsure why theymos called it a forum), so I am not sure if the devs of a repo have total access to its database of it and copy it to the database they own, which database does sourceforge used at the time and was it open source, I searched for it but couldn't find it.

Side Note: The sourceforge mailing list was created on Nov 22, 2009, It was Sunday (Holiday) so there's a very good chance he had a lot of free time on his hand to work on it that day, There's also a very low chance of Satoshi being from a Islamic nationality (They have holidays on Friday) Which is the day of planet Venus and Rules heart energy center. You'll notice your feelings are more dominant on that day.
I could be wrong too in case of Satoshi from not being from any Islamic nation.

I want to know:
  • Was this domain re-registered after it expired? "I have no idea if domains expire and are re-purchased, and then the age starts from a later date.
  • What was the other forum that Satoshi created (if there was any), and for how long it lasted?

If the forum was switched, the database from the previous forum was transferred, or a new database was created (you can avoid answering this one if some sensitive information were to be revealed).

I wanted to create a new topic but found this one.

It's surprising how well-documented history can become totally forgotten... Satoshi created the forum on Nov 22, 2009, and was head administrator until almost 2011. Then Sirius was head administrator until 2012, which is when I took over.

I checked the domain age: https://www.whatsmydns.net/domain-age?q=bitcointalk.org
Code:
bitcointalk.org was registered on:

Friday 24th of June 2011

13 years, 3 months and 10 days

or 4851 days

I remember reading somewhere that this isn't the only forum Satoshi created. There was another one, which could be the one he created on November 22, 2009, and then later made this one.

Echoing LoyceV and Dogie, by using this site you are implicitly trusting Theymos and Cøbra. "The buck stops with them." Anyhow, this forum already has the distinction of being created by Satoshi.

I thank you for your quick reply, and I also suggested @xtraelv  to add the important information to his topic.
Today, I got the reply from theymos that he took over the forum since 2012.
Here is a detailed clarification from theymos, and I thought that @xtraelv should add it into the OP, because it is one of important things of the forum.
There was a period where both Sirius and I were active administrators. For convenience, I reckon Jan 1, 2012 as when I became head administrator, though it was actually a gradual transition starting before and ending after that.

I thought you actually took over the forum from Sirius earlier than 2012, maybe last months of 2011.
Because I saw your topic on the forum's donation published on August 19, 2011, 08:29:22 AM Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC
Maybe you mis-remembered your forum-taking-over-day a bit, didn't you?

I had always wondered this myself. I know Moderators who were unaware of this info. (I think it's simply cool as shit to be on Satoshi's made site and that hell he may be reading this now).

Are you sure about that date? admin account "u=1"[Date Registered:   November 18, 2009, 01:12:33 AM] Has Satoshi created it?

The forum was opened to the public on Nov 22.

I guessed you can blame Bitcointalk's terrible webpage on not having actual reliable sources, you cannot even see BCT links as cited sources for the page. I have read it before that Wikipedia don't count forum posts and links as a reliable source for the web page that is why you can only see others reference links outside of the forum, which is pretty surprising to me as they counted a cointelegraph article as "reliable" source for the page. If they do want an accurate history of Bitcointalk they'll be citing theymos' reply here in your thread.

Yeah, apparently bitcointalk.org links are banned, which is ridiculous.

It's sad that the most famous forum about Bitcoin discussions has incomplete information of history in Wiki. Maybe there's a way to upload and include The most iconic bitcointalk threads. History on Bitcointalk. in Wikipedia? Most people trusts Wikipedia informations than other sources usually those people who don't know Bitcointalk but knows what Bitcoin is.

Seeing our great history (even though I'm not part of it) in such informative sites will be helpful I guess.

Where is Satoshi Nakamoto ?? is this real man??  Roll Eyes
Obviously no one knows. Try searching it in Google to find out more information.

I remember that Sirius said in a quote that Satoshi was the one who appointed you as administrator?
Edit: Was there more than one admin?  Huh
I find a lot of historical information conflicting with some comments by some old members.

1. I don't know him personally. He was made a forum and server admin back in 2010 because he had proven himself trustworthy and was able to spend time working on it. Bitcoin.org and bitcointalk.org domains are owned by someone trusted by Satoshi, while theymos has management rights. I resigned from the management, because I'm not active in the community and don't want to be involved in the politics. I don't want to say too much about the debate, as I'm not that familiar with all that's going on.

Sorry, I have corrected the date (also corrected it on Wikipedia). But I have not forgotten the forum history! Shocked

Cobra also owns the bitcointalk.org domain name.

I see you have access to the domain name setting also you run the sever alone and Cøbra has no access to the database or funds but has control over the forum domain. Due to his less activity here some people could surely miss-understand it.

That wiki article is kind of terrible...

Yes, I agree. It has nothing explained and it needs an update.

I already saw some users discussing and working on it here :

Bitcointalk on Wikipedia looks kinda sparse

Guess the most users dont know that and the whole story about the Forum and how it was going in the past!

The control was transferred to theymos around 2010 and he is the only owner and running the Bitcointalk effectively.

Cobra also owns the bitcointalk.org domain name. I consider the forum to be basically owned by or at least dedicated to the Bitcoin community, though; I don't call anyone an owner of the forum.

If the Bitcointalk was originally created by Satoshi Nakamoto then who is running this website now?

The control was transferred to theymos around 2010 2012 and he is the only owner and running the Bitcointalk effectively.

Howmany total members are there who handling this website now??

The working is handled by theymos himself and staff appointed by him.

Also to let you know the Bitcoin.org domain is owned by Cøbra.

As per the wiki, this place is basically owned and operated by Theymos since 2010 (and to a lesser extent by the mods)
