This is OLD problem
why you use service vanitygen to create special adress ?
you must know basic about address

If vanitygen create new address for you, "NOT ONLY YOU WHO KNOWS YOUR PRIVATE KEY"
my friend lost 1.2BTC than i suggest to create new spesial address with vanitygen offline

so many tutorial like this
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/vanitygen-vanity-bitcoin-address-generatorminer-v022-25804

also some people get stolen from vanitygen https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/stolen-coins-right-after-getting-vanity-address-445764

You may want to phrase this a bit better. Now, your post tells others can see private keys of addresses you generate through vanitygen which is not true.

OP and the person in the thread you mentioned used a website controlled by someone anonymous. They can easily store private keys of your addresses and redeem coins from it. If you use vanitygen locally, this won't happen.

I mean is if he use https://bitcoinvanitygen.com/ that not only he who knows private keys
vanitygen send your email and he can read send email too, and he can import your address to blockchain

MY solution if he want to get spesial address he can create with her computer with vanitygen offline

( sorry for my bad english, i use google translate to some paragraph )

@OP: Please post proof. You can't just come here and accuse someone without any proof.

Fair enough - but my feelings still remain about generating a vanity address to hold and share with others for bitcoin payments.  I hastily put vanity generated addresses in there but you're right they're fully compatible as it's just a private key.

Why are you hesitated to use a vanity address? What security does vanity address lacks?

Also, don't use Vanity Gen, vanity addresses of any kind nor mini addresses/mini private keys - those are uncommon formats that are not normally supported in the reference core client.

It is supported. Looking at your post, it seems to me that you don't know about vanitygen. Please do your research before posting. Thank you! Smiley

OP used a vanity address which was *generated* by an anonymous person. That is, that person most probably has control over private keys of all the addresses generated through BitcoinVanitygen.com. To avoid this, you can either generate one yourself(in a secure computer) or use split-key generation.

its 2015 - people were talking down on vanity addresses back in 2011....why on earth would you ever want one?  IDK you gave no details on the vanity address nor the transaction which took the funds, nor the address where the funds ended up...that's not reasonable to throw a scam claim out there like that without ALSO providing evidence as well.  I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying prove it happened.

I've use that site before but only for small amounts. maximum was $50. Nothing happens to my funds.

Bro, $1200 is much more than $50. Seems that site owner have stole selected btc wallets in which there is a lots of funds are present.

TXID? But nevertheless, no one should use a vanity generator that is
1) Online
2) Allows the owner to know the private key.
You could have downloaded a vanity generator or use a site with split key generation feature.

Post your evidence or transactions.

It doesn't matter if he posts evidence or not but its really a risky deal because you're entrusting money to an unknown person which knows the private keys of your wallet..
