I wonder what these people do with all this stolen money...

what would you do with 60 millions USD? Smiley  You would open a real business(if you really want to feel the pulse of society) in your country, you will buy a house, 2 houses...10...so that you can rent them, cars, woman  , anything you wish.

you would live a life without any problem.

A normal person would do that, I just have a hard time believing these sleaze hang up their black hats and start living like "normal" rich people. I suspect they're already thinking about their next heist to gain a billion dollars.

It's probably someone with a vendetta against BTC, Bitfinex, or both. (Or a cover story for some scammy stuff going on at Bitfinex.) The hacker may not enrich Himself/herself at all. They might just stick it in a few addresses and never spend them.

That is what I am thinking also and this is not new to us. Gain the trust of people then pull back and run. This thing will happen in every wallet site if they see that there will be paradise after the robbery.

it is possible because the hipsters who run the most exchangers do not care about security and other real important things of a business... like running a legit company. they feel like gods when they are  tinny shits. all of them pose in Buffet or Trump.

of course, their clients have the fault that they are using such companies. I would say that they deserve this expensive lesson. Next time, they will think twice before using exchangers like BTC-e, Kraken, Poloniex and others...
Use licensed(insured) exchangers. Yes, there are only few but you may surely get some funds back if something bad is happening.

Bad news for those who kept their coins there i hope they can recover their stolen funds soon, luckily for me i never used bitfinex before.
Don't you guys find it suspicious that bitcoin started dumbing a few days before this happens?I hate conspiracy theories and usually laugh at them but what happened here is weird at least, what do you think?

This illegal exchanger (https://www.bitfinex.com/) is hacked. Funds are stolen. Their value is unknown.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitfinex-shuts-down-customer-bitcoin-stolen/

It's so funny when they write "The theft is being reported to — and we are co-operating with — law enforcement."   What law enforcement when YOU are running an  illegal forex company(without licenses) ?!?!  Grin

They are liers and morons...

In the coindesk article it is mentioned that some of their users have had their bitcoins stolen which means that not users are affected? I have a feeling that because of the bitfinex shutdown the bitcoin price has dropped to $555 currently and with this trend the price is going to fall probably to $400 very soon.
So this is the reason why. Good thing two of my friends withdrew their funds there. Damn that hurts a lot in bitcoin price just one exchange site makes a lot of impact.

i very sad to hear this, I have 0.5btc in it,now,i cann't login!!
am i will lose this btc? Sad
Almost yes, you will loose them.
They are already lost.  Gone.

Another clear reason why fiat is better.  In fiat, the government comes in to cover the bank / exchange losses and the people get a royal fucking on the back end.  In Bitcoin, there are no bailouts.

Bitfinex should hire Paul Vernon to learn how to keep exchange running as long as possible even if already hacked and funds lost...  Cool

Update,

the funds stolen are 119,756 btc. that means aprox 60 millions USD

Do you think that Bitfinex will cover this amount and it will business as usual? Smiley

no. I doubt they have any where near 60M usd, take their margin x volume of trading time to look at upper limit of profit.

you should only keep a negligible % of BTC on an exchange at anyone time....

duck in and out to atemporalise you risk

(atemporalise I coined this word it mean spread risk through/by time, or make is less time dependent)
