Look closely at the HS; its mostly closed from the side. The design is to let air flow through from top to bottom, not sideways. And of course the system design makes that impossible.

Once more, a text book example of how not to engineer system cooling. I imagine cooling isnt a big problem with those asics, but if you are going to spend money on large copper heatpipe coolers, you as well design the system so they can actually function.

DiabloD3 that is the indirect mention of at least 2 model. 1 is probably an ASIC single.
Ahh, I was interpreting that as somewhere in the ballpark for 2U/500w and 4U/1000w sized for standardized rack mounting.
Can you give us any indication of price? >$5,000? >$25,000?
Can't give you any exact numbers yet. But for a certain model, both numbers are too big,
and for another, probably both are still big... we have to decide, but it won't be unaffordable...

Maybe I missed something, but I just read the entire thread over, I didn't see any indirect mention of it. All I saw was mentions that you don't want to announce things before they're a sure thing. Is that what you meant? Because thats totally okay, its just that if you could get a Single 2.0 that has, say, 30-50w power usage (instead of 80w), people would run these 24/7 in their bedrooms due to their increased silence (less power usage == less fan) and be more apt to buy these. Hint hint.
We will have a sub 50W product, and we do plan on using a very silent fan in it...

I feel for those that have invested so much in that tech.
No need. Even if they havent broken even by now, they should before these asics arrive and once they sell their equipment. Prepare to feel sorry for those investing in these asics because..

.. you might be underestimating future difficulty by several orders of magnitude.
I'm still glad I got my single & have plans to get more,mainly because of the fact that the FPGA uses less power than GPU's & can be used for other things if all goes awry for Bitcoin later (I think I read that somewhere,if BFL releases the firmware),

Going bankrupt because you prematurely announce a better product is called the Osborne effect, because the computer company Osborne inadvertently killed itself that way.
And for a more recent example, see Nokia, who announced they were killing off their Symbian platform before releasing a replacement.

Assuming everything is the way they say it is, it would be stupid to order from anyone else. As soon as the ASIC comes in(crosses fingers) you can zoom to higher efficiencies while everyone who ordered elsewhere is stuck.

3. They offer trade in because the initial customers are the ones that took their business off the ground, and are also the ones who are likely to reinvest over and over, thus it would work against them in the long term if they neglected such customers, and made people lose trust in them.
Sometimes it feels good to meet a person who believes in the good nature of man, even if it's just on the internet.
However, let's drop all romantic notions and let's be realistic:
They announced the trade-in program because without it, their own sales and thus their own cash flow would screech to a halt immediately after their ASIC announcement ALONG WITH the sales and the cash flow of competitors.
