I think what really makes the difference is when you have bitcoin becoming the standard currency for cross border transaction. Imagine a foreign worker in a country sending home the money without having to pay excessive fee and it is almost instantaneous. Similarly, if you are a frequent traveler, you can also forget about exchanging and holding different foreign currencies and that is when you have bitcoin.

I think the technology will have a different use ten years from now and may increase help in problem solving on a general scale. How it will be used as money or a currency/asset I have no idea as maybe new technologies by then may override it and supersede it but I would like to be alive by then and see what happens of course.

I can mention a few without knowing the future, since the present already states some.

1. Will always be used for blackmarket either you like it or not
2. Will always be used for money laundering for gambling sites 90% of transactions

Thats my 2, now you can fill the 8 other points that will still be true in 10 years.  Smiley
Unfortunately they see, reasonable I add 3 to the list as:
3. More online shops start using bitcoin

4. Will always be used as a hedge against inflation

Ok. I'm changing my prediction:

4. Will always be used as a hedge against deflation

Explanation: When deflation occurs, energy prices also deflate.

I mostly agree with these so far. That's a pretty good list.

Since Bitcoin is money, some portion of it will always be used for illicit purposes. That's really just a marker that actual people have it and spend it.

I don't know if gambling sites or activity will comprise the majority of transactions; I think it will be whatever is the majority of websites and online searches. If Bitcoin is growing to become the digital money of the Internet, then it will probably be found most used in those things that are the top three or top five uses of the Internet.

If communication, email, (adult) entertainment, social media, et cetera are the things people want or search for online, then Bitcoin's growth will encompass these. I guess we should expect the next wave of anti-Bitcoin press to talk about how it's really just about porn then. Really, that's just reflecting what common searches would be.

I agree with you and your comments and the advantage of bitcoin which is hiding identity can be the danger for it too and it may endanger its existence.

I think Bitcoin is likely to be the anchor of online transacting in some fashion, like how Facebook authentication seems kind of like the default standard-issue way of authenticating users for many new web applications. (For example, the Stellar protocol uses it or at least did when it launched.)

Facebook is like the grandparent of all new social platforms, and new social media platforms integrate with Facebook right away or are at least inspired by its example.

Maybe most of the new work and activity will take place elsewhere on altchains and with altcoins.

The Bitcoin blockchain could be the patriarch of a large and growing family.

Maybe Bitcoin is Don Corleone.

Bitcoin will be 4 figures by then in a solid fashion, a established 4 figure floor is due. The thing is, I have no idea if it will be 1000 or 9999.
Bitcoin will probably be as mainstream as the internet was in 2001, that means, the new generations will be into it, they'll see the advantages, but the older people will still lag behind. I think by about 2010 the older generations have picked up on the internet and they started getting on it, even into social media.
Basically it's a long way until a technology gets mainstream, but you can never rule out a crazy spread and sudden adoption because of something incredibly random like, some celebrity mentioning it on tweeter and then going viral and whatnot.
Maybe all people like this happen but not sure when the cost of mining is about 400$ how it can become more than 1000$? I do not want to deviate the topic though but the first three are correct.

Unfortunately first two statement will go for 10 points cuz is 100% true.
For third now almost every major online shop accept any crypto so this is ok.
Last dunno 50-50.

I'm not 100% sure yet about the how bitcoin will do in the long run, but blockchain technology will be king of the hill for sure in online payments. Wether this will be in the form of bitcoin or antoehr one, visible or just as the backbone that consumers don't even notice will be seen.

I know the most recent would, eventually once we fix our 1 mb transaction issue to 20 mb.

I`m pretty sure we`ll have to increase the 20 mb, if more users come out of anywhere within that time.

The more I think about it the more I am inclined to believe that bitcoins will become more common online, but may not ever be all that common for every day users.  It could replace the dollar for international purchases.  Once in a while I buy software from other countries, such as from Europe or China.  It would be massively convenient to use bitcoins in stead of having to worry about currency rates.  Also I buy from reputable companies so I would have no problem sending them a payment before receiving my products.

I too an interested in what others think.  This is a great topic.

Let's put on our futurist hats!  Will there be mainstreaming of BTC usage?

Maybe a completely secure wallet application?

The Internet essentailly powered by micropayments paid for blog posts or videos users like?

What will be the tipping point for people to really want to use BTC?

BTC used for remittances more than Western Union?

Will sidechains be prominent?

Will Bitcoin go bust?

Just a quick post on a whim--looking for a few thoughts to consider alongside my own.
