Bitmain as we have noticed is afraid the transport of bigger boxes from China.
They prefer small antminer boxes like s1-s3 when they have problems with S2.
Remember the horror pictures we saw early 2014 with the S2 miners
So making a big big miner boxes is a problem

What problem did they face transporting big box?

For some people, hashing boards became disconnected during transport and were tossed around inside of the miner. They eventually improved the design and it became much less common. I'm sure they've learned their lesson.

But for most people, all they had to do was open the case and push down on the boards to reseat them.

Sp-31 maybe expensive but its good looking

interesting to see

SP-31               3920 uSD / 5500 ghs = 0,7127
S3     0,58btc      300 USD /   450 gh  = 0,66 (if its 500Gh then 0,60)

off-course needed PSU for the S3 and its more quiet for household use.
I dont mind the noise as I host them in my warehouse

now if S4 goes for 2000 ghs we must wait to see the price

Was hopping S4 is at least 5 Th and is cheaper then SP-31 in-term of price/ghs

S4 might end up being some rack mounted creature to compete with SP31s.  It may not be usable in households (at least not US 110V).

I actually prefer SP31 because of the compact setup.

I guess since they fitted 10 cards inside a S2 they will now take the 10 cards in the S4 making it a monster of 4.5Th/s
clear speculation off-course!!!

Good luck hooking up three 1200w PSUs to that! Lol.

This reminds me of the poor souls who used moron-math and thought KNC was going to ship them 15THs Neptunes instead of 3THs.

If the S4 follows the pattern of the S2, it certainly won't be 4.5TH/s.  Remember, the S2 underclocked/undervolted the BM1380 chips from the S1 to make that 1TH/s at 1100W - typical ratio of the chip was 2W/GH/s.  If they hadn't, the S2 would have been a 1.8TH/s miner consuming 3600W.

The speculation is that the S4 will indeed follow the same paradigm established by the S2.  My thoughts on the specs are earlier in this thread, but to reiterate them here, I believe it will be around 2.2TH/s at about 1300W.  If Bitmain wants to use the same PSU as the S2, then it'll probably be closer to 2TH/s at 1100W.

How close are they to roi?

They're at 67%, would be closer to 80% but had some shit luck at BTCGuild for a good stretch when I first set them up.

Should be in the black within the next two to three months.  Undecided

You're totally right if they stick to this and make it a pattern this very well could happen.

I hope so!  Although I'm not very confident that I'd upgrade my S2s even if they do release something. My S2s have still not hit ROI and I don't like to throw good money after bad.

The S2 looked like it was made to help clear remaining stocks of the old chip before introduction of BM1382 based machines.
I don't expect to see an S4 until Bitmain are ready to clear out old stocks of the BM1382 in preparation for the successor to the S3. My guess is this will happen in 2015 given the current success of S3 orders.

They're going to milk their product until its time for the next generation of miners and october is pretty soon for another iteration of Antminer.

S3 is to S1 as S4 is to S2 would be my guess.  They can create the S4 and still "milk their product".

I believe that Antminer S4 will come out in October. Just a hunch
a long way out. 35 plus days

Agree, after 35 days the difficulty would increase at least 50%.

Are they switching to 20nm for S4? Any info when we can expect it at all?
I highly doubt it.  Chances are they're going to follow the same paradigm with the S4 as they did with the S2: lots of underclocked chips.  So, they'll continue to use the BM1382 that's in the S3.  Quite honestly, I'd expect the S4 to look pretty much exactly like the S2, with some minor improvements like better bracing of the hashing boards on the backplane, etc.  My expectation is somewhere around 2.2TH/s at 1300W will be the specs on the unit.

Well whats the point of making new ones at the same W/GH ratio? We can just order bunches S3s.
It's a better W/GH ratio... S3 is 0.77W/GH, my expectation above is about 0.59W/GH.  I don't think they're going to see the kind of improvement they saw on the S1/S2 simply because the BM1382 chip is already achieving a respectable power to hash ratio.  Hopefully I'm wrong and they manage less than 0.5W/GH... but I doubt it.

there is not much money in s4. even at 1300 w/2.2th it has to be just $1500-1600 to be a leader/competitive in the next mo or two.

well you can order this 1.4th -1.7th  dragon using 1070 watts   for 1290 usd sans psu
