What a depressingly scumbag move by the zcash people. guess its time to find another coin that actually promotes freedom of choice.

Someone else said it already, but this statement from the zcash foundation is more likely credible than that article above :
https://z.cash.foundation/blog/statement-on-asics/

Though it's interesting that the Zcash foundation seems to be at odds with Zooko .... here's the quote

"...Another complicating factor is that the Zcash Company’s chief, Zooko, has signalled ambivalence about ASIC resistance.

The Foundation is in the process of adopting community feedback as part of our own governance process, and in fact has already planned to represent the community’s interest in this debate via a proposed ballot for our election process. "

Exactly. I don't understand all the people in this thread shouting "they will fork!" Did those people not read the official statement? The link has been posted twice now. They definitively state they are not forking right now and they might not fork at all. They also state that if they DO fork, it won't be until late this year. The exact quote:

"If it’s necessary based on our evaluation of the ASICs on the network, we will hire a developer to construct and submit a ZIP to mitigate its effect on the network. If the Zcash core development team and community approves, it will ideally be deployed by late 2018."

Read the statement people

RIP Nvidia, RIP home miners.Seems Bitmain wants to carve out their own big piece of the pie in every coin. And no one can't stop them.  Money Money Money, girls girls, cash cash! ©

If it wasnt bitmain, it would have been someone else. You cant stop computer evolution. How many times has this been proven lol....Or fork every time a new machine comes out....How stupid is that....So is Monero going to fork again when a new machine is developed? Then again, and again.....and again..... Doubtful...Its a losing war....Any company that doesnt bother looks more reasonable then the ones that dont. Or we can just have a 1000 moneros.....One fork created 3 new coins, because we all needed more new coins....So stupid. BTW, the Monero community was extremely against the fork....That says a LOT.

Plenty of other coins, and coins to come this machine will be useful for. Gotta love the people trying to say its a brick when its not. Neither is the CN or ETH miners. People really are blinded by the crap they spew. Its amazing how irrational their defense is. Has nothing to do with the machine, its all bitmain. The hatred against a very efficient computer is ridiculous at best. People really need to re evaluate their stance. Or look stupid hating an inanimate object that has no choice in the matter. If anything the ZEC foundation is only saying that to appease people. The Zencash people arent forking it seems, thats the coin I was going for anyway so meh.

ZEC forking, Enjoy your bricks  Tongue

Btw. I don't really get what is this Zcash Foundation and why it is saying almost opposite things to Zooko. Zooko apparently don't mind Asics.

ZEC didn't say they will fork now, they just said that they will investigate and eventually prepare to fork. They now doesn't know how ASICs works and need to understand this first.
So there are some months before a potential fork

Anyone already ordered one or more of these miners? If yes, any problems with the order?

to order not, but delivery will be at the end of June

I ordered one with PSU using $420 coupon and paid with LTC.

Only problem was LTC transfer was late like it took 3 hours.

And while waiting for confirmation the order expired.

But later BIMAIN fixed my order valid and paid.

So no trouble. My last A3 was arrived with one hashboard dead and took more than 2 months
to have one board for self repair, which was terrible purchase .

This time I hope all board works fine.
Well good luck then! Hope that not all Equihash Coins fork for you  Grin
Yeah, I know it is still a gamble .
Very simple this time I made small bet on this.

So have many paid for the z9 brick?

Basically a lot of people are going to be upset right after reading that ZEC message.

I think most people assumed when the ZEC said it will not get involved in this ASIC drama, everybody assumed that they would just leave it as is.

Since ETH wasn't going to fork they assumed it going to work out fine for sure.

Not every coin forks off from a ASIC. The only know that I know of is XMR.

Bitcoin or Litecoin or Dash never switches algos.

฿ear ride on the rainbow slide
You know, out of all the Bitmain products I have had, I have never had a DOA miner, I have never had one crap out while using it.

All in all, I have been very happy with my miners.  I have had worse luck with GPUs then Antminers.

Often there is a certain amount of luck involved as well.

There were whole batches of S9s that had serious issues with the chips burning out. (not overclocking)

When you have a warranty break down or have a DOA then my experience is that they really don't want to know you.
