Is this a new phenomenon?  Since when do USA residents get charged duties on items from China?

M

uhhh... pretty much every country does.

I was never asked for the S1s I ordered from Bitmain years ago.  Seemed like it was always the other countries that had those absurd tax policies.

FYI: UPS in USA had my D3 flagged as some exotic piece of scientific computer equipment .... about $96 bucks duties

This is when they called about a Soc Sec Number I asked price

I informed them that I should be (like other equip) be called a manufactured peripheral accessory to computer equipment as a classification

and offered to show here my miners with a laptop front end as a peripheral computer hardware

they dropped the price to $25 on the change in their 'what it is' number

just a heads up

Ups charging me 177 USD for 2 machines duty tax doesn't that seem a bit high wth...

Bitmain must have tripled the item value or UPS is price gouging.

DO NOT USE UPS for shipping. I repeat DO NOT USE UPS!!!

These fuckers charged me 163 USD for 2 machines just like you, and held it hostage until I paid them back. I will never ever use them again, ever! I advice people to choose other shippers other than UPS. They're not idiots, I bet they know what's in them, and they want to take advantage of it, as much as possible.
Where are you from ? What are your import fees ? Do you pay VAT ? That would be 5.5% total fees. Consider yourself fortunate wherever you live.

United States! I would have been happier with Fedex instead.
Like I said, consider yourself lucky. If you lived in EU, you'd have to pay import fees (some 2-4%) and then vat on top of that (approx.20%) and then some. The 1500$ miner would cost you 350-400$ more each. And you also got the first batch, so what the hell. Mine the s$$t out of it Wink

When you put it that way I'm not as bad as I thought. Vat is ridiculous though that's so high tax.

In Czech Republic I have to pay around 600USD as a VAT but no import taxes.
Using DHL Express but it doesnt make a difference.

Thats 21% from any purchase - each miner is 21% expensiver for me - electricity here is around 0,12USD/kWh.

Hope they release it from customs tomorrow...

Im sure network hashrate is going to be over 100THs till end of the week.

Was charged € 550,- total yesterday for d3 and psu duties.
Shipping by UPS. Took them 3 days including the weekend.

Setup was really easy. It's up and running and Hashrate is averaging 17.5 Gh/s.

Overall very happy with my purchase so far.

where are you from please ?

Mine is stuck in customs, they just let the PSU out. At least that means that customs is not using it to mine by themself  Tongue

What country are you from ?

fuck it missed the train, guess I will just wait the next top machine is released and pre-order Smiley

couple of questions : if I understood correctly, atm only bitmain is the only reseller to broad public ? do you know what s the average time to replace their machine , I'm guessing at some point they become completely obsolete and not profitable anymore ? they release a new machine at what rate ? (3months ?)
is it as simple as plug and run for someone tech savvy ?
if you have additional info, about better competitors, better machines feel free to link thanks Smiley

sorry for those questions I am trying to learn here

ps: don't try to link me a reseller or any phishing scam attempt, I will just ddos the shit out of you.

I will reply to what I know:
1.Bitmain is not a reseller. It is the manufacturer.
2.I don't think they have a replacement policy due to being obsolete.
3.They don't have a stable rate for releasing new machines.
4.You need a power cable for your country. Also internet & ethernet cable.A bit of knowledge with the ip stuff as in knowing how to find it and how to access it.The dashboard of the miner is pretty simple, yes.
5.As reseller there are many ( most of them scammers ) but they usually sell at 3-4-5-.....infinite times the price bitmain has.

Hope this helps a bit
