I just checked Bitmit and it is now unblocked. I have access to Bitmit through Sonic once agains. yay
But this is very interesting that you got listed in this spam/phishing blacklist. It very well could be related to that. As a buyer/trader for some months now I know this isn't a phishing site so I'm guerssing somebody maliciously added Bitmit to that list. Perhaps the same people that were DDoS attacking 2 months ago?
Maybe it's Bitmits competition who is doing all these nefarious things? who knows?
But what really bothers me is that this small ISP, Sonic.net who is supposed to have less restrictions that the big AT&T and Comcast blocked Bitmit because somebody *said* Bitmit was a phishing site, not because it actually *was* a phishing site
That would mean that any website could end up on a phishing blacklist just because somebody doesn't like it, or doesn't like the owner, or had bad experience with another user of the site. It would be no different than adding this forum to a blacklist because I had a bad experience with one of it's users
This alone should be embarrassing for Sonic the ISP. For me it's truly bizarre since Bitmit is one of the few places I have NOT been scammed. I've been scammed with Paypal and Moneypack. In fact just about any reversible transaction involving fiat money is subject to scam, so if they're going to be blocking anything, they should be blocking Paypal and Moneypack and even Ebay and banks for that matter
That's what makes it so utterly weird. Bitmit is the one place I have NOT been scammed because it uses bitcoin and has escrow. And as long as there's escrow and feedback with users, it's good to go
Every single trade I've done on Bitmit has gone smooth. In fact, I've found it safer than using Localbitcoins because now there are reports of people trading bitcoins in person with counterfeit cash, right here in San Francisco
http://coinbits.com/2013/10/01/i-was-given-counterfeit-20-bills-in-exchange-for-bitcoins-at-a-localbitcoins-com-trade-seller-beware/I have not had this problem on Bitmit. In fact, I noticed the recent extra security measure where Bitmit now requires email verification when you pay for an item with your Bitmit wallet. I'm assuming this is to stop man in the middle attacks or some kind of unauthorized release of wallet funds. It's a slight inconvenience, but if it cuts down of fraud, so much the better and gets more of my respect
Until I get some kind of proof otherwise, Bitmit is THE BEST site right now if you want to trade bitcoins. And this is the problem I have with Sonic. I do not think there ever was any proof Bitmit was a phishing site
But yes, Sonic has now allowed access again to Bitmit
The censorship is still annoying tho, especially from free speech activist Sonic.net
