Bitstamp is coming back with us , but the price of btc is still coming down . i think btc price is coming up somedays Smiley

having bitstamp back is great news but that doesn't mean the price will go up.
price decline started way before the hack and doesn't seem to have finished yet.

As I've said in other threads, they want a narrative, so they'll ignore anything that breaks that, Bitcoin is unstable, unreliable and not a currency, that's what they're going to stick with for as long as the dollar stays alive, then when paper money collapses they'll pretend they were with us all along. Most news journalists operate on a predatory pack mentality and try to pick the side they think is going to win, there is plenty of evidence of this when the election season comes in, even here in the UK when we had the general elections last time round the BBC immediately sided with the conservative party when they had done the maths.

Do you think the mainstream media will be as eager to cover this recovery too, or just the crashes?

Unlikely. It's not really a worthy news to report on for them.
Or maybe they'll cover it if there's absolutely nothing else going on in 'technology' or 'finance' categories.

Did a quick news search and only found 1 non-bitcoin media covering the story, but nothing from the main-stream.

Lol. CEO just said they build a whole new backend system from scratch in just 5 days? I believe I will cash out the small balance I still had in there and wait for a fer months before dealing with them again.

I agree with you.
In fact, I don't know if I will be ever able to trust them again.
transfer money online really became scary business lately and little bit stressful Smiley

Yeah, it's hard to argue. Still, it is a good sign that they re-opened. They could have easily said that's enough of that and closed shop.

bitstamp stole a $1200 wire I sent to them on December 23rd .. friggin thieves .. i would NEVER trust them again!!!

sure it was not a bank error? if they did just take it you could get it back pretty easily with bank records and a small court case... seems like a strange thing to do though, considering they just covered a few mil of customers money...

ps ive made multiple withdraws and deposits with them without a tiny glitch.
good! Hopefully it will make ppl have more faith in bitcoin! And the price will cover back at previous level above $300!

By redeploying our system from a secure backup onto entirely new hardware, we were able to preserve the evidence for a full forensic investigation of the crime.

if someone from inside bitstamp is part of the heist, he better run.  he will be caught.

Not if the person responsible for the hack is also responsible for the investigation....

...?  law enforcement officers are responsible for the investigation.  they were the hackers too?

or are you implying the ceo of stamp is scamming everyone...?  now that will be big news if true.

They're back up, but the problem is far from solved.  There's still 18k coins missing...so unless those customers who had coins stolen are able to instantly withdraw right now, then the underlying issue remains.  Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I doubt it. Media outlets are owned by billionaires that need fiat to continue to operate. So any good news about bitcoin will be kept in the dark.

Good news = no fear, no fear = not glued to the station to make advertisers happy.

Edit: oh and it's probably not long before coindesk cryptocoins news etc figure this out, more FUD = more pageviews and shares Sad

very true.

also part of the message the stamp CEO said

Despite not getting a huge amount of communication during the outage, i think bitstamp have come through their 'first time' very well.

not too many other exchanges would have survived / been able to guarantee full account 'refunds' after losing 19k btc.

they always seemed like the best choice for me from the days when there were only 2~3 options, now ive even more confidence in them.
"now ive even more confidence in them"
me too

i wish them  all the best
