I only have bad news.

Just caught on FIRE. The heating element went bonkers and the wand plastic ignited.

I do not take responsibility for that.

I do take responsibility of overheating the surface mount pad with a fine tipped iron while removing solder and causing the pad to come off.
Which I am pretty sure means I am farked.

Also I burned the nachos slightly.

To the last two posts... some post upgrade things...

Yes it was ONLY the osscialtor I replaced..


I believe the boards/Voltage regular top out at 1.27-1.28V.. I have not had time to dig in as to the upstream, if something else can simply be replaced ( I assume so but not sure.. I will get to this in the coming week or so)

As for the difference between BTCGuild and the Admin Page.. it seems that some chips did not get enough power. Hence various chips turned off and that was the loss in hashing power. This can be verified by simply reseting the device with the restart button once it has been running 20-30 minutes.. if any chips come back with a "X" this is 99% due to low voltage.

This also would have to be addressed to go beyond the 16Mhz upgrade, which I think these boards could do pretty easily.. As mentioned I will look into this in the coming week or so.

I tweaked each lane to exactly 1.28 the max I could get, and it seems a lot more stable, and I was able to run it consistently with no "X"..

One more thing I did was adding a Ram stick on heat-sink to each chip on the board. They do get fairly warm and this more of a nice to do, rather then a need to do... Can take pics if requested...

All in all a VERY simple upgrade for a decent increase... if we can increase voltage easily.. additional upgrades would be great, as the temps are still very low...  




Thanks for the info. I did wonder if you might have had a couple chips drop out when you were talking about the Hashing discrepancy.  With no X's I guess you got it covered.  Ah.. the adventurous path to find the weak link . Smiley

Completed the upgrade on the Blade today.. upgraded the "High" Ossilator to 16MHz.

Simple upgrade

All voltages are around 1.27-1.28 per lane

Here are some picks of the two Ossilators, before and after. (Sorry one is upside down.. I`ll fix that later..)

So far stable its been running for about two hours after these pictures were taken..

Averaged out to around 14375





need only oscillator? withouts any resistor like usb erupter
16mhz or 14mhz you picture 12-14mhz

Just checked on it again...

Somehow it is faster then what I thought possible.. or the code is not scaling or something else is at play here...

Web Admin page reads "14674" Mhz (pic below)
BTCGuild reads "13785" Mhz

I was thinking the theoretical max would be...

(16*28) = 448MHZ * 32 = 14336MHz

Doesn`t seem to be a increase in stales or other issues.... I`ll have to have a look at one my other blades closely maybe this difference is normal??(Anyone?)



Thanks for doing this on a Blade. I will be doing one of mine in about a week. I will let you know how it turns out.

Actually I used those screw type wire connectors. I added those tape just in case not to expose any live wires out. And I have not start using that "new" adapter. But the advices here, is definitely a must-follow for me. Will do them before I start using that adapter

if so, good.

for others who may read this.. you can get a variety pack for a couple bucks at any hardware store. these, and electrical tape, are a must have in any tool kit in any electronic tool kit.

btw soldering is the gold standard. if youre doing these mods you should have soldering gear anyway.

Get yourself a variety box of heat shrink. I bought one a month ago and finding all sorts of uses for it. With electricity it pays to be safe.

Most packing tapes and craft tapes will burn well. Some electrical tapes are rated with a fire resistance (according to arbitrary international standards x, y, z) so that they smoulder instead of igniting. Much less risk of something substantial nearby being ignited.

I find that shrink wrap tubing works really well at joining wires.

30 cm USB extender (male-female ends) are $1 (inc shipping) from eBay. (cut the power wires)
Actually I have a better idea. I have a melted adapter(4A) and a melted connector(8A). I went to the store and they replaced it for me and asked me to keep the melted ones. So what I did was

1) Melted adapter, cut off the connector


2) Melted connector, cut off the adapter


3) Good connector + good adapter = new adapter!


Now I can use this adapter to try Cheesy
