Yes. Blockchain will be used in all everyday life. Airports, hospitals schools ect. Just give it another 10-15 years.

The question is not so much whether it can be used, more like why should it be used?

If we talk about a single airport, that is essentially centralized, I don't see much gains in using blockchain technology over a classic server infrastructure. Since other institutions have no incentive to keep track of the blockchain, it woulde be centralized anyway, because the airport itself would be the only entity keeping it alive. The usability of blockchain or a classic server would essentially be the same.

The moment, you plan to link up different airports, we are talking.

Regarding the tracking of cargo, for example; this sounds like an awesome usecase: you as the passenger get a key with which you can track where your cargo is, with the airports and planes being essentially "wallets" holding those tokens.

The publicly available global blockchain allows you to track your cargo. To prevent misuse, you are the only one knowing this key (apart from maybe the person checking in your suitcase).
Planes could be represented by tokens either. Same for passengers.

So, if you think bigger than a single airport, yes, blockchain is your friend.

Actually, block chain can be used for almost every use case since it is basically a distributed database.

Why not? you can use blockchain for any project you want, just run an ICO and take people's money and the rest would be just fine.
Just make sure to announce it here so we can participate.

Right Oilacris, no one would be able to risk funding mega projects using BTC or other cryptocurrencies given their illiquidity as of now and wild price volatility.

But we would like to brainstorm on possibility of using available "Blockchain" technology ie: ethereum to fund, built, operate and benefit from physical projects.

Sorry if not clear, but what I meant is whether we can envision funding and operating major projects such as airport or hotel, using blockchain technology? It's clear that the current application of clockchain is mainly limited to Finance but there are several other PoC underway by enteprises for other possible applications. Can this be one?

Hope it's clearer now.

Thanks

I think you are saying about create and build an airport or hotel using BTCs...

It would be a big project and many BTCs would be spent to concretize this idea, I'm not sure someone would be interested in using Bitcoins for an idea like this now, the flutuations in the coin price are still big and frequently, to invest on something like this the coin used should something more stable like dollar. But as Bitcoin is money, someday someone could try to realize a big project like this using Bitcoin.
I dont think so that anyone could able to jump on the risk regarding in bitcoin and they would really not tend to do this project and as you mentioned it will really need bitcoin to implement this idea. They cant able to handle the risk for sure since they know that bitcoins price is too volatile to consider.

As a financial consultant we dealt with several projects in energy, aviation, construction,...etc over the years.

Learning about blockchain and it's potential applications, I am fascinated to know how, whether it's possible to use the technology (at it's current stage of development) to fund, built, manage such projects be it a power station, a hotel or specifically an airport. I would appreciate your contribution on the subject, if the brainstorming would lead to a practical solution, we have an access to very interesting project and can hire a team immediately to commence the job.
If you are talking about blockchain tech than i think distributed ledger system can be used to maintain record of almost anything and that can include recording flight schedules, flight path, maintaining hotel records, record schedule of almost anything and with encryption those records can be made either public or private.

If you are talking about bitcoin, it can be used in almost every field, merchants, stores as payment methods.

yes, blockchain is awesome but it doesnt mean it's needed for everything, so in most cases a simple database will work for you.

what kind of use for blockchain you have in mind?
Nope, It can be using for other development. Some of the people were giving his idea about the implementation of the blockchain. If we are looking at the ANN section which means too many a new dev was making his blockchain and it can be using for the various purpose and elements.

Yes, Blockchain could be applied in airport, especially in cargo management, to track cargo and prevent loss of cargo that is common in come Airport.

everything the OP said is possible to do with blockchain but its need more research but for the hotel, i think and i heard that there are hotel available and accepting bitcoin for the payments but i am forgot where is the hotel locations. maybe for first, the implementation is on airport for using blockchain to pay airport tax and after that, maybe we can use bitcoin to buy the ticket for flight and so on.

I would use a hotel that accepts BTC as payment, where I could book room beforehand and execute deal online carrying only the payment proof with me. However, it would be a great challenge to keep the hotel's good reputation inbefore criminals move in as they did at many hotels that did not require that much validation, but cash.

I've seen some companies use the blockchain technology, where blockchain is not just used for financial services, mining,or payment processors.
Hybrids like "Filament" are gaining ground. It even got $5m in VC.
Quote
Blockname is a technique for decentralized resolution of endpoint addresses in electronic communication using the Bitcoin blockchain and public notaries to verify the authenticity of name/address bindings.
Quote
Blocklet is an electronic accounting system that builds upon the blockchain to provide autonomous, decentralized equivalents of traditional methods for commercial transactions, including contracts, agreements, receipts, and escrow arrangements.

I, however, do not know how  blockchain could be integrated with airports, aside from the payments angle.  Grin

What would you use a blockchain in an airport for? I have heard every idea about blockchains from different people who are said to be "experts" but all I see are ponzi schemes. I would be surprised if this isnt another scam or ponzi scheme.

Did you hear about the dragon chain that the guy from Disney is developing? You two might want to hook up and see what you can brainstorm with. Heres an interview with him, hes very smart and brilliant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA2_pg_odX4

No dear, I am no expert in blockchain and as mentioned the subject is absolutely new to me. This post is just to brainstorm a potential application of blockchain technically and will be closed once this is concluded.
