It's because that is Haney's style, but the funny thing is that Gamboa seems to be pissed or what? did he really thinks he won the fight? And if I may add, Haney is different from the big punchers in his division, his style is to break down his opponents by this long jabs as compare to brandish style of Tank and Teofimo or Ryan who wants to knock down their opponents viciously.

Floyd Mayweather used to train him if I'm not wrong so maybe he got that fighting style from the Pretty Boy.

Teofimo Lopez has been calling Haney so I think a Haney vs Lopez is imminent in the near future.
I did not know that Floyd used to train Haney in the past, in any case, he may have seen Floyd's style, hit and not be hit, defensive style that's why I see him doing shoulder roll over like Mayweather. As for his style being boring, I do agree, fight fans whats a all out war and this is the main arguments from those MMA fans that boxing is a snoozer specially if there are no knockouts or knockdowns in the whole twelve rounds.

A lot of boxing fans want toe-to-toe fight. But if Haney has some training from Mayweather, then we know the fight will really be boring. We know Mayweather's style. He's not an aggressive fighter by any means. He wants to calculate inside the ring so even if he's the laughing stock inside the ring for running, doesn't matter. As long as he will bring the money home.

And that is the beauty of boxing though, there are fans who love the toe-to-toe mano-a-mano like the Mexican warriors and the Fllipino Manny Pacquaio. They really gave everything and they doesn't care if they get hit or the mouth or not. As long as they proved to the fights that they are gladiators inside the ring.

However, they could be some who loves to see defensive fighters like Mayweather, "Sweet Pea" Pernell Withaker(RIP) who is a defensive genius.

Anyways, I think it's time to lock this thread now.

You said it right, Mayweather is a boring fighter, hence his trainees will follow his boring style, what made him different only is he is willing to accept big fight and he beat all his opponents, so he still make money, but if you ask people, we obviously know the answer that he is a boring fighter.

Well, let's move on to this fight as this match was not really exciting as we expect it, Haney needs to look for a fighter that could give him a real battle so he will earn some respect from the fans.

And that makes him a boring fighter, but still has good KO rate, maybe he wasn't just trying to gamble with a veteran opponent as he also respect Gamboa's power, so instead of getting so aggressive, he played it smart, and he wins it.
Yes, he is very different from the breed of young fighters on the lightweight, well, he is brandish as well but doesn't have the tools to back up like Garcia, Lopez and specially Davis. I would say that he is weakest of the three. But he did show good counter, but the Cuban can take his punch and was able to survived specially in round 11th.

I wonder if Haney can be popular with his style, nothing extra ordinary with what he showed, he was just their to simply win and forget to impressed the fans. I think his only way to stardom is if he keeps challenge a very popular boxer like the names in your list.

Hard to say, but for me, if he wanted to be the top of this division, you need to have a knock out punch that maybe he has, but not in the level of others fighter in the weight class. For sure not just fans are not impressed but the fighters themselves as they are not trashing Haney's performance.

Teo Lopez says that he is just fighting C level fighters and he can't even knock them out, that's thrash talking already, and he is right.

But first let's see if Garcia vs Haney will happened, assuming that Garcia gets a win against Campbell.

This was kind of a disappointing performance by Haney. He had a perfect opponent to look spectacular against and it turned out to be a snoozefest. I do not see him beating a Teofimo Lopez or Lomachenko. He might not even get a chance to fight those guys since he is not marketable and hasn't looked impressive enough for those fighters to consider him an interesting opponent.

You also give credit to Gamboa, he is a tough nut to crack. Though he is there just to survive but it's the lack of commitment by Haney to knockout Gamboa, he is just playing safe IMO.

Anyways, thanks to Gamboa, i won my bet @3.0 lol.

(Yabang)  Grin hehehe, Yes, a healthy Gamboa is still a tough nut to crack and he really prepared in this fight against Haney. But it seems that Haney has so much respect for Gamboa here. And as you can see Gamboa went to Haney's corner immediately after the bell rings, meaning that this two has really some old connection.

I have read that DH did not look impressive and he was a big favorite to defeat the Cuban man.

Maybe he needs to focus more on being a better fighter then by talking online since he did not make impressions today.

What a boring fight, I was expecting a KO but then nothing happened, look like both boxers are playing safe.

By the way @bisdak40 , what kind of bet gave you a @3 win?

Yeah, Haney was contend of his jabs to do the job in this fight, although he is the champion, his name is not on the discussion, for power punchers in this division Lopez, Davis and even Ryan Garcia, I'm sure he will also take a flanked from media, a shot Gamboa and yet he was taken to 12 rounds.

Congrats to @bisdak40 good call. Props to Gamboa as well, he survived the fight and even have those rounds in the card for me..

Although, a win is a win here. But I'm not seeing Haney fighting against the best of the bunch for now, maybe the winner of Garcia-Campbell.

Yes, that's why Davis really take a lot of heat not knocking out Gamboa early and he even went to distance with an injured Gamboa. But Davis was able to bounce back from that, giving Leo ad devastating upper cut. I like what  Gamboa said though,

Quote
“I’m here to mess up everyone’s money at lightweight,” insists Gamboa. “There are a lot of big fights to be made in this division. My first one will come Saturday night, with a lot of big paydays to follow.”

https://www.boxingscene.com/gamboa-im-here-mess-up-everyones-money-lightweight--153076

So he wants to derail's anyone on lightweight, Lol, he almost did that in the Davis fight, so let's see how Haney is made of.  Smiley

I liked his statement, it looks like he will not give Haney an easy fight despite he is an underdog in this fight.

Honestly, the odds are really attractive, but I like to ask from you guys, anyone here put a bet on Gamboa to upset Haney?

Gamboa and decision is @30
Draw @26.

What do you think about this odds?

Good odds mate, even half a stake on that will give you a huge win.

You gonna love Gamboa as well, definitely the underdog but with this kind of statement, you really think that he has a chance against a young and hungry champion in Haney. And specially with how the division is stack right now, he is motivated to derail all the big fights schedule for this young boxers.

Worth to take the risks, like the decision, it could last a good 12 rounds if that happens, he will have a chance to upset Haney.

Definitely, Haney is the favourite here. But for some miracle turn of events and Gamboa will win, those who placed bets on him just got their huge winnings of their lifetime. Not gonna place the bet but will watch the show.

Okay, I think I will take my chances on the odds that I shared, if Gamboa will give his opponent a good fight, the result could be a draw or him winning the fight. I will put a little bet then just enjoy watching the fight, i think that's a good idea, no pressure in my end.
