Funny thing is, if that's him, He looks also exactly how I pictured him!

Not the japanese part. The paranoid personality that drove someone to create Bitcoin.

Paranoid? If the story is true he worked for the government, on classified stuff. He is not *paranoid*, he just knows first hand that governments commit all kinds of violence on people on a regular basis. He is just a realist, and it is pretty much everyone else who is incredibily ignorante and naive.

That said, I still have my doubts that guy is the creator of BTC. Its for sure one of the most plausible doxs attempts so far, but its far from confirmed. What do we have? A few rants and speculations from family members who in any case admit they have no clue?

Plus, his family says he would never admit it, that he is a guy with a lot of secrets... But then he uses his real name to launch BTC? Something shady is going on.

Whether it's him or not, she got what she wanted: attention.  The whole internet is buzzing with her name and Newsweek tied to Satoshi and bitcoin.

mission accomplished for Newsweek. regardless of who gets hurt in the process.

I hope that when DSN is awarded his $150,000,000 settlement from Newsweak, and while all of the cameras are on him in court, the real SN posts an lol thread to this board  Grin

After looking at the rest of this women's "articles" it's pretty clear shes just a hack who needed any story to save a career that was anything from noteworthy. Her previous stories are just human interest pieces dressed up as real news.

Looks like in early/mid 2009 Dorian Nakamoto was quite involved in his model train hobby. See http://www.oscalemag.com/docs/ost_45.pdf

I don't think that's a guy running a 60-node cpu mining cluster.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
If this is true and those are indeed the real names plus the real house... that journalist is completely insane (and a criminal that should be arrested in my eyes).

What the f# is this, completely destroying the privacy of the man who clearly did want nothing but his identity kept a secret?

I hope this is just a ridiculous hoax.

edit:
https://twitter.com/gavinandresen/status/441547758827474946  Seems like it might actually be real
The twitter proves that gavin is CIA as well.

It was penned 5:16 AM EST, Gavin's time zone. You telling me he wakes about 4:30 AM? Takes a shit, brews some coffee, read the latest, then opts to tweets, all prior to 5:16 AM local.

Goonies never say die.
It's just irritating when reporters release a story that just isn't finished... she doesn't know if he is the real Satoshi, but that's what the story is implying, as if she has verified it. There are ways for him to prove it (if it is him), but she completely screwed up the negotiation/talking part of this and really just threw it out the window when publishing this article.

If it is the real Satoshi, I don't see what is stopping him from coming on as 'Satoshi', prove its actually him (digitally & anonymously), and then state that the guy in CA is not him and that he did not want any bad attention going to someone (even if it is him).

I would guess this article was pushed out because they are trying to get some publicity for their recent decision to 'start printing newsweek' again... which I believe the first print is happening this Friday (I would be very interested to see if this story makes it in the print)

It seems like a good time for newsweek to want publicity, I just hope it backfires.

(By the way, why would anyone want to start a printing press right now?!?)

This may or may not be true, but that's the "beauty" of "journalism".  They can make any claims they want toward an anonymous person.  Who can prove otherwise?  You roll the dice and maybe this story forces the "real" Satoshi out of hiding.

Either case and if this is the real Satoshi, under Irresponsible Journalism in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Leah McGrath Goodman.  This is an incredible invasion of privacy and since she could never definitively prove this is the real Satoshi, Newsweek should be sued for libelist statements, as this is certain to have a negative impact on this guy and his family.

There's your article! The woman who uncovered Satoshi Nakamoto revealed, showing her house, car, etc.

Anyone who wants to claim to being Satoshi the creator of Bitcoin can prove it by decrypting this message:

That would only prove the real Satoshi decrypted it (or surrendered his private keys).   He can have another identity disclose the contents.

Well, if it is really him at least it'll get him out of his shell. I predict a 6 month Vegas residency will be signed and sealed before the end of the month.

If this guy is a Rain man type. How can more exposure make him happier? He should be on suicide watch, not going to trip to Vegas for 6 months..

Please don't tell me people on this forum actually believe this? I know reporters are dumb, so she probably believes it herself. But people on this forum should know better.
There are many who do, mostly new members.
Yes i know, stupid teenagers who troll all the time and watch their bitcoin price tickers all the time because they own 0,34876 BTC. It's pathetic.

I'm inclined to believe. Primarily because this is just who I pictured Satoshi to be.

That being said, I'm still not 100% certain, because I assume reporters & news agencies know the 'perception' of Satoshi... and if they can match someone with the name and the perceived character, they can create a story that people will believe - no matter who it is.

I don't believe any rational person could say with any degree of certainty that this is the real Satoshi, unless of course they have a good sixth sense  Cool
I'am not saying it isn't him. I just find it very very unlikely. I wouldn't believe it just because of this article. It isn't him until he proves it for me.

Boycotting that site 100% forever the "reporter" should be ashamed.

+1

If she doesn't lose her job after this would be even more of a shame.

Losing her job?? She will be promoted and win a journalist prize. If he get targeted or his family, even better for them to write a follow up...

They want him to be a target. Follow the money. Who is banking Newsweek?
