Hey guys, it's been about 6 months since I've paid attention to anything going on with mining altcoins. My GPU rigs have been chugging along the whole time, mining various altcoins on Multipool, but I'm now just noticing that I'm not making squat. What's the latest? Is GPU scrypt mining dead now too? Is it time to sell the GPUs and get out of this? Thanks in advance for your insight?

GPU mining is officially dead now that all the altcoin profit has drop. Now nothing is profitable..

Thanks SpeedDemon. You're right. It's going to take work now to figure out what to mine. Is GPU scrypt mining done with? Doesn't look like an of the Scrypt coins return a profit after electricity costs. Am I going to have to switch algorithms?

Scrypt is virtually dead on gpu mining. You definitely have to switch from Scrypt.

I would recommend you to take a look at this thread as well, to get some idea of which multi-pools and algorithms that are most popular / profitable:
cryp.today Mining revenue stats Scrypt Scrypt-N X11 X13 pools / hashrate rentals

You can try to look at some calendars and get an idea about what you might like to mine. I think the key things right now for popularity are anonymous transactions and blockchain service technology. Anonymous would include things like Darkcoin and Monero while blockchain 2.0 would be Viacoin and others.

Thanks guys. Seems that GPU mining is really dead. Sad

I wouldnt say its dead. You just have to pick though the massive amount of garbage of shit coins being released every day. I swear its a group of people who rehash the same old shit day in and day out.

There are a few options:
Stay with the multipool, switch to say, X11 and go from there..... some days your getting .02 BTC a day with 50 MH on that.... or find another non scrypt algo.
Jump on a new released shitcoin whos devs forum name just so happens to be the coin name... mine it and then cash out on exchange the first chance you get, much harder to do because there are a few farms + rig rentals that will hash the shit out of the coin, raise the dif rather fast.... f5 for an exchange and then dump the coins before the others do.
Or you could find a few coins and then mine them and hold if they sound legit...wait a few months.

Not dead, but not as easy to make profit since February and before that. It just takes more savvy and work now. ASIC scrypt miners are still too expensive to get a ROI at the moment. You always have the option of buying coins to invest also.

Are there any new algorithms for GPU mining that are profitable? I'm not really willing to invest in any new hardware.

There's quite a few out there: X11, X13, X15, Nist5, Luffa512(aka Doom), CryptoNite, Wild Keccak (BBR), Keccak, Groestl, XPM (Gpu miner) and more.

You probably want to research what is profitable via the forun, because it's always changing and much tougher now to find a profitable coin to gpu mine. Plus there are more scam coins out now a days compared to last year, keep your guard up.

Hard time for GPU miners. Its only a matter of time before the next bubble hits so... if you can defer and gamble on holding a few different coins for a few months and not make anything...
