Ethereum openly admitted that they're dumping massive amounts of coins. I think around 20k btc. The dump will just eat up all the buy orders, so btc price won't rebound at least until the dump is complete. It might just so happen the dump is happening on btc-e.
I thought they were selling closer to 2k coins? I could be mistaken but I am pretty sure this is the more accurate number. I would argue that the price dropping so much was due to the fact that btc-e likely made their margin requirements more strict and by doing so created a very large margin call across many accounts.

i noticed on https://btc-e.com/ that all coins are dump at 15:30 time stamp. check each coin and see how coins bounced around. very suspicious. stolen coins perhaps? whale taking massive dump?
hope they using charmin.
very unfortunate that one person can cause this to happen, hopefully we do not see more of this type of thing for a little while

It looks to me like a margin call on longs.
when Bitfinex dropped to 450 a few days ago there was a margin call on longs and I think the same thing is happening here on btc-e.
Historically a good time buy after longs get squeezed as sell pressure should be evaporated
I have a very rough, sketchy understanding of what longs are, but what's a margin call?

Basically a margin call on long positions will happen if the price hits the "break-even" point of said longs.
Their positions needs to be liquidated because if the price went any lower it would be impossible to pay off their margin positions

the BTC-E discount is back to the historic norm at 7-10%. Very interested on this widening of the spread.

They are dumping some of their bitcoins now, but the IPO is over in a few weeks, and I cannot find any information about what they plan to do with the $ millions of bitcoins they have left over afterwards.

Probably the value was manipulated by a big whale, and all the exchanges followed the drop.

"conspiracy theories" have nothing to do with this, manipulation is normal business in an unregulated market like cryptocurrencies.Do you think any whale with that amount of coins would be so dumb to sell his BTC stash for like 30% less USD than any other exchange all at once?

That wasn't a price manipulation but just a mistake made by a unexperienced whale.
