How can their cold wallet have been compromised??

Inside job likely though they'll probably blame it on hackers or something. Anyone who loses money from their cold wallets needs to look at whoever has access to them.

at least bitstamp only had its hot wallet hacked. This looks like an inside job on bter.

Why you guys keep repeating the announcement?

Start asking yourselves why these things are still happening over and over again!

It's time for a decentralized exchange for our decentralized coins!

I agree. Time for a decentralized exchange.

The first worldwide Atomic Cross-Chain Transaction will be between Qora and Burst using AT. The world needs this.

Bter got owned again? This is ridiculous!
It's time for decentralized exchanges or some regulated ones like coinbase or coming gemini.

BitShares Decentralized Exchange. You already can trade bitUSD/bitBTC or bitUSD/bitGOLD over the blockchain without counterparty risk. Cheesy

The thing it is so much more than just 7000+ BTC

You have Nxt, Doge, Nubits to name just a few of the biggest volume coins on that exchange suppose we will see massive dumps of these in the not so distant future.

dont store large sums on an exchange. try to use a hardware-wallet. good luck anyway.

This isn't really possible if you're an active trader but this is one of the reasons we desperately need to move to decentralized exchanges. People should be able to safely keep hold of their own coins until they're happy with a buy order they're willing to exchange for.

And another exchange that got hacked? It's going to look like a domino effect.

Exchange after exchange gets hacked, it's ridiculous.

I only use BTC-E and Bitstamp, but even Bitstamp got hacked this year.

How long are we still going to leave our precious Bitcoins with these shitty exchanges.......

Seems there is no other option . Have they ever commented on this ?

This is a message from BTER :

We have to suspend all our services waiting for the security check. More information will be released as soon as possible. Sorry for the interruption.

At this point there is an option. And that is storing your coins in your wallet.

But not the option that most people are keen with I think.

I have not really a technical background, but a lot people are talking about decentral exchanges, not sure how it works out.

If it stops hackers and thief CEO's it will be considered a forward step.

7170 BTC got stolen from our cold wallet in this transaction:

720 BTC bounty for chasing it back.

All wallets have been shut down and withdrawals of unaffected coins will be arranged later.

I guess the hacker will return it anyway and claim the bounty. Good solution for both.

Whats happened with BTER ?

LOL. Another cryptomarket become a scam. It was with mtgox an it will be with every centralized service. Don't trust anyone with your bitcoins. It's as simple as that.

I withdrew BTC yesterday without any problem. Just checked their site, it is down. Who, I'm happy I took my coins!

the happiest person is the guy who post himself 7000 btc this morning
hope he will die, slow and painful

As above, can you give a link? Has it made to some crypto news site?

I only heard/checked that it is down, because I happened to log in and check here.
