Rain forests are typically govt-owned. Tough for prvt parties to buy in

Well... in countries like Brazil, large chunks of rain forest are owned by private companies or individuals.

Sure. I have't finalized my plans yet. Some more work needs to be done. Once I do that, I'll share my ideas to everyone here.

That's great. Bitcoins for the protection of the Amazonian forest. I'll also jump in with 1 BTC, if it is in 2016 or later.

Please contact me then and we'll see if I'm still willing to spend 1btc. Sounds like an awesome idea imo.

Now the big question is, would you actually donate money for the cause of buying some hectares (assuming there was a reliable organization that had that task)?

Yes. I am planning to do that, when BTC hits 10K. I hope that will happen in 2015, or the latest by 2016. I am planning to organize a group of environment-loving Bitcoiners, and may spend 1 BTC each for buying up the forest. For $10,000, we can acquire 60 to 100 hectares of forest or recently destroyed forest in the Brazilian Amazon. If there are 100 people joining, then we can set up a private wildlife refuge with 6,000 ha. to 10,000 ha. in area. The maintenance can be covered with tourism.

At the current Amazonian deforestation rate of 2,000,000 hectares / year, we need to be quick.

this is a good idea i can contribute even if i cant come with you all Smiley
this will also can save all the endangered spiecies and also to protect and preserve nature

and when the BTC will become that high im planning to establish a shelter for dogs Smiley

I'd contribute too so on the condition i don't have to engage in any actual gardening  Smiley
I think the point is to just buy the forest to preserve it.
Exactly.

It is nice to see that so many bitcoiners actually care about the rainforest. Now the big question is, would you actually donate money for the cause of buying some hectares (assuming there was a reliable organization that had that task)?
I would, but I'm currently low on money. So not ATM.

Poison tipped spears, and they hide while you are standing with a gun ready to die.
Now you are dead...RIP....and they have a gun.
Be careful, it's a jungle out there.

Even against the 18th century muskets, the poison tipped spears and arrows were of no use. To exterminate the 20,000 strong Botocudo tribe, the Portuguese needed just a few dozen men, each armed with nothing more than muskets and swords. The death ratio was around 1:10,000

On the otherhand, the natives of US (such as the Comanche) had more success against the invaders.

it's actually because they had low moral, they thought the conquistadors are actually the people from their prophecy
