Topic: buying a new 470 today and 480 later next month. (Read 2072 times)

My flash/mod went poorly.  I need the stock rom for the sapphire 470 reference with micron memory. 

From what I've read, I should have used ATIWinFlash to create my backup, instead of GPUz.  GPUz created a 128KB file, instead of 512KB.  This can lead to problems??? 

Any insight is welcome.

Does it seem like undervolt + overclock is getting the least error free blocks ?

The reference-style 470 doesn't seem to mod very well.  The system will not boot once I restart after flashing.  Has anyone else either had good luck, or a similar hanging/bricking experience? 

After booting into safe, disabling, restarting, and flashing back to stock, the system will still hang when i re-enable the card.  This is happening with what I believe to be the stock rom flashed onto it.

It seem like the reference cards is king of the ETH hill. No hazzle just solid hash. Plenty of good roms around to play with.
I picked up two slightly used reference 480 8gb cards today. Cheaper then the cheapest 470s cost around here. +61Mhs in a day or two.

well i had to back down both RX 470 to 26 MH limits it seems after taking the ref card to 2000 memory speed it did nothing but waste power but if i  jumped over 2k it blues screens then crashes .

The NITRO+ Radeon RX 470 does the same thing but when I hit like 1960 memory speed or higher it crashes . the setting i use now are core clock 1100 memory clock 1900 on both with a temp limit of 72c and power tune set to 30 it runs really really stable for me @ 26 MH on a striped down version of windows 10 with only the services i need running.


 i know that means more tweaks in the bios it self which I'm not up to right now .SO i settle for that for now .


P.S those Ref models or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202230 get hot even at 63c it is hot, all most to hot to touch .  The NITRO+ runs 10 to 12 c cooler at the some setting, Plus i have a box fan blowing on the 3 card rig at low setting  and gonna use these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ2J2K0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to cool it more with a self powered USB plug.

Do you need to flash bios to reach those numbers?

I bought 470 4Gb nitro and got Elpida memory that can not be edited in Polaris bios editor.
I have to wait for the new Polaris bios editor 

if i where u , i would wait up until black friday and bang it with 12 cards which usually proves 1-1. card price less....

HW ERROR are the issue right now for the 470, i got my 370's down to 1 hw error in 24 hours and showing a effective speed with two cards close to 30 MH or higher at times but hung around 29 to 30 MH .

the two 470 one was doing 21 HW error in a Hour the other one did 20 , i  went back to Claymore a new version came out, I'm messing with . honestly didn't get the effective speed with sgminer on us1.ethermine.org:4444 with the 470's, I'd rather use sgminer but the hw error brother me.

How many hardware errors do you have in one hour per card? What is your speed seen in the pool?

I edited my Bios by following this video then i overclock the card Memory clock to 1975 and set  power tune to 25 and use msi after burner not the one linked in the video, it has some really strange effects when I use it after burner doesn't do . Claymore hits 28MH all the time, with this BY wolf https://ottrbutt.com/miner/downloads/sgminer-gm/sgminer-gm-wolf-09222016.zip  i hit 27 mh .

all i change in the bios is the timing like the video does,so me linking my modded bios really won't help  and it is safer if you do it your self just follow that video .


here is my sgminer.conf which I'm all way tiring something new, till i hit that extra 1 mh i miss or some one figures out how to Optimize it better .



and when i set power tune to 25 for me any way my two 470  ran a lot cooler and quieter. I even let either Claymore or sgminer set the fan speeds all i did with the fan speed was set limits. I don't like using wattman either at first i thought i would , MSI after burner Does all the over clocking i need .I may find out what that Guy did in his 480 thread , who modded his bios with everything so no overclocking software is needed and then edit my bios to do the same, later on , but with 470 limits. that i may link or try to write the how to but for 470 unless some one does it sooner .
 
                                                   

There are also rebates coming for some of these cards. Guess they didn't sell as predicted.

after i edited it, I get 26.1 MH or a little more, then i over clock it to 1905 with wattman and leave everything else a lone or may be adjust temps and fan some, i get 27.122 or so, that way @ about 63 c.


ID rather not give you my bios encase it messes up your card then id feel bad and because I didn't save a stock copy , so i took a big chance . all i changed was the timing, they say leave the rest a lone so i did .
