Well, I am not buying because this is likely a (short term) bubble. Long term I am very bullish though and since you can never be certain it ever goes down again (Mr. Market can keep the prices high until intrinsic value catches up) I would Dollar average if I didn't have a stake already. So buy a static Dollar-equivalent each month whether those Dollar by you 1 Satoshi or 21 Million BTC.

Decide how much you want to spend. Buy some now, buy some later. If price goes up, you made money. If price goes down, you did not buy at the top.  Smiley

So obviously btc has skyrocketed in the past few weeks. Commons sense says not to buy when it's at it's highest and to buy when it's at a low? Now my question is what will the new low be considered? Am I too far to expect to see $20s? 10s? I want to buy bitcoin just for an investment for long term.

forget about speculation. Just buy some and use it first to determine it's potential for yourself and place a long term bet. No one knows the answer to your question. Speculating is gambling so you might as well ask what number will come up on the dice.

I would suggest multibit for a wallet. Ive been using it with no issues since November. As for buying, you can buy by using funds in your bank account.

My being lost is with the whole encryption part of it. Public/private keys? Where can I buy bitcoin safely with funds in bank account?

Can anyone help me with how to buy bitcoin while deployed? I can't take cash here and go deposit? Other methods for online. How about making a wallet? I have my ipad out here. I can probably use a friends laptop for a while. What do you suggest?

True... 47.7 already  Shocked get in quick!

OK, jokes aside... for short term trading i wouldn't buy now... for long term (6+ months) thats another story... I plan on buying some soon once the dust settles...

I suggest you look at live graphs like http://www.bitcoinity.org/markets and make your own judgement as to when the lows will be. Just yesterday the lowest it went was 42.6. The opportunity to act truly is swiftly moving and you should be looking at very small changes in the current price to invest your money instead of a large percentage like $10/$20. Those negative changes are now unlikely to happen considering the total market is constantly going up.

If you read the post of Falkvinge
http://falkvinge.net/2013/03/06/the-target-value-for-bitcoin-is-not-some-50-or-100-it-is-100000-to-1000000/
you must understand the moment is now.

The point is, do you want make a fast buck or are you in for the long haul?
It all depend on your time horizon, if it is days, you could wait. If it is months or years it didn't matter so much if you buy at ten or at fifty. The target is between 100.000 and 1.000.000 US$ (at current quotations).

100.000 US$ (current) is what could be the price if bitcoin take over 1% of the international commerce.

But if Chairman Mao Bernanke have his way, it will be much, much more.

What he said - if you think $50 is good, you are thinking too small.

Lol, love these threads.. 2 days ago I passed up many opportunities to buy at $40 even $38.. wish I would have taken that offer now.

I know. Well unfortunately I am deployed and still new to this but want to make a move. Being over here is making it hard. I'm not a computer buff by any means and the lingo is killing me. Someone want to help? I can offer btc in return?
