How do campaigns work? Can the posts be about anything and can you be part of multiple signature campaigns? How do I get paid for it?
You just need the rules because every campaign has different rules.
But you need to ensure you are not spamming the forum, you need to help to contribute instead of counting your post for money,
By the way you can check this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/signature-campaign-guidelines-read-this-before-starting-or-joining-a-campaign-1684035

Campaigns are means of advertising using the services of people such as you and I as advertisers. Each campaign has a set rules guiding such campaign for as long as the campaign may last.
There are certain sections of the forum that you allowed to post according to the rules of the campaign you are in.
No,  you can be part of more than one campaign at a time.  There's no way possible to sell your advertising space to more than one company at a time.
Payment is made on a weekly basis according to your rank.  There are times when one does not get paid due flouting of rules in the campaign.

Each signature campaign represents a different token or coin project with a different and unique set of rules. Usually if you join one of these campaigns you are not allowed to show off any other token or coin in your signature as basically you are selling advertising space to the company or project you represent for an allotted time period. Usually, you are not allowed to post low quality or spammy posts just to up your post count and you are often given rules that will help you follow a set of guidelines. If these rules are not followed then you will not be remunerated for your work, especially if the quality is poor.

Every campaign have it`s own set of rules. They may require a specific number of post per week and they might say that they count only post made in a specific topic.
Payment could be made in bitcoin but it is very hard to get in such a campaign or in the coin the campaign is promotting.
The payment for bitcoin is ussualy made weekly in youre bitcoin wallet and is payment is made in altcoin it will usually be made at the end of the campaign in the wallet that suports that coin (it will be mentioned by the campaign manager). There are cassec when payment in altcoin is made weekly.

The most imporntan thing is not to spam just to reach the required number of post because it is very probable that you will be kicked out of the campaign.
For more details you should read the requirement of the campaign you wish to join, but for newbies there aren`t very many.
