Pretty much everything that involves some sort of "authority" or "power" can be misused. You should intuitively come to this conclusion.

Between you guys didn't confirm if there is some appeal or rating review mechanism?
No. First you take it up to the person who gave you the rating. If they do not respond or ignore you, then you can ask the community. If the community agrees that the rating is unjust, then you can contact the relevant DT1 member. If the allegedly unjust rating was left by a DT1 member, then you need to contact theymos.

Can the trust system be abused? Yes, and it is frequently (mostly by butthurt scammers leaving retaliatory feedback). However, there are two types of feedback: untrusted and trusted. Untrusted feedback from brand new users carries no weight and will not show up as 'red' or 'green' to anyone but themselves and those that trust them. For your feedback to carry weight someone on the default trust network needs to add you to their trust list so that's why abuse from unreputable or untrusted users is largely irrelevant. If a person is on default trust and is found to be abusing it there is a good chance they will be removed or excluded by those higher up. However, anyone can open up a thread in Reputation about positive or negative feedback and the community can chime in and help resolve the issue.

That's why we have this so called "DT members." These DT member is divided into two which is DT1 and DT2. Those who are in DT1 are users who are in the trust list of the administrators themselves while DT2 are members who are in the trust list of the DT1.

Basically, we can classify them as the reuptable members in the forum where their opinion and trust ratings matters and are recognized. Other ratings who are not a DT member are often not given attention in most cases.

Hi Bitcointalkers

I am having a confusion regarding the trust system on bitcointalk. I see that you can easily give trust ratings to other bitcointalkers. I have never given negative ratings to anyone, but I guess that's easy as well. So my question is what happens if someone gives negative trust rating to other user for revenge, to threaten, or just to shut mouths? Can't a person make multiple newbie or junior accounts to give multiple negative ratings to single person? And as we know, even one negative rating means you can't participate in most of the reputed sig campaigns or even fb and other bounty campaigns. Not to mention, no one would take your posts seriously, even if you are not in any bounty campaign. So what am I  missing here? Can a user ask to review his negative rating, if he/she believes that they have been wrongly/maliciously given negative rating?

Thanks
Siddartha
