Channel 4 news saying facebook is a danger to democracy ..Is it?

I believe our normal TV media stations are more of a danger to democracy than facebook..
They spread PROPAGANDA    tv stations ..

My vote goes by the way my area is acting ..Acting all nice like no shootings then good leaders
Loads of shootings and poverty then not even facebook or the media will change my mind..
We all know social media are now the influencial tool nowadays but it depends on the people's dignity if they will believe in the social media or change their minds. Fake news are spreading specially in social media it change the perspective or brainwashed the mind of people of who will they vote. But just like what I've said it depends on the people if they will believe in that.

Facebook is a danger to the democracy, because it is extremely biased and rabidly left-wing. In turn, the enormous popularity of Facbook can have a major impact on the elections, by influencing the decision and preferences by the users. I am glad that I stopped using FB many years back.

Well these days no government want's the hold of public info other than themself and we know they use our info for personal gains.

FB is no better, this is how they made billions.

Now for privacy and stuff, it's people fault to upload their things which is private to them to some strange website who happens to be popular, it's all in T&C but no one care to read them and later blame others for their mistakes.

Now as for voting I don't think it will chance anything atleast in my Country.

Not for all the individuals, but it sure can make a wave. I am from Sri Lanka and in 2015 we had a presidential election where facebook made a really huge impact on the community. and also in present there we can see lots of preparation for the 2020 election via facebook and impressive thing is we can not see any kind of media publicity is given through traditional medias yet. Publicists have identified the facebook as a medium to influence specially on young voters.

Well for some people it probably would. Many are basing infirmation from what they see in social media instead of really finding out what's going on. If someone keeps on seeing the same infirmation, whether it's true or not, everytime, then their decision would heavily base on that.

Well , I think Yes it can affect votes .

No one do not have a facebook , right ?  So every one read what candidates post on their facebook .

For example , They post helping poor people , and it has a more and long caption . It can caught you attention to read it and you realize that He/she is a good person . That He/she is a good role model for every people in your country , So you vote them.

TV a poison to people's lives
They are controlling the life and the tempo of people.
They were just paid advertisements and more on fake news.
Facebook came and other social media, this open humans life.
We were puppet before, and we are getting better now with open eyes of knowing what is true and what is paid.

In fact, the media is more tormented by our brains. especially for official channels on television. on the Internet, at least you can find out different situations and find out what interests you, and not what government policy imposes on you.

Most definitely! It's not even a question. Any platform capable of placing or broadcasting propagandas has a great chance to influence voters. Especially Facebook wher interactions are done with campaign promoters themselves. Faceboon is a good place to put propagandas in. It casts a wide net of audiences, it is instantaneous and you can have a live update on what you audiences think. So yes, social media can actually change the way you vote.

Yes, facebook has been the most influiential tool used by people to spread news either positive or negative, but mostly positive which greatly impact someone's beliefs and opinion. Compared to mainstreamn media, social media is quite transparent and unbiased. People get to expressed their opinion without being controlled too much by different parties, freedom of speech is well exercised thru social media and if your choosing someone to vote, it would be better to read some reviews and feedback thru facebook, twitter et al to know more about the person.

Facebook has the data of a large sized government, of course they have the power to influence.

If I google: men’s shoes

I’d see men’s shoes for amazon.

I’d start seeing feeds for shoes on Facebook.

These are the most obvious ways these companies influence the majority.

I votes to avoid news from Tv broadcast, the news content about politic and economy are filled with manipulation and propaganda.
Even though Facebook are not best place for news sources, but i think it is more democracy rather than Television news source, because in Facebook many community can show up their opinion and critics about politician and how black business impact so far.

Since any lie can get viral just by sounding convincing, yes. Of course, it can.
People are willing to believe anything. If you say the earth is flat, they will believe it despite all the proofs against the idea. The people only need somebody looking convincing; if you are one of them and you say airplanes are making us incapable of having children, they will believe it.
Facebook makes the people invest their time in reading stupidity, as viral stuff, where this girl went to dinner last night; how must I dress up...

I don't have any facebook nor twitter personal accounts, for they seem to be a waste of time.  Grin

I believe social media can change one's perspective and view on everything. Social media can greatly influence someone since you can freely post anything there without proof or basis. There are even some fake or false news spreading through out social media. So, I really think it can change people's political view, hence affecting one's decision on voting.

I think that it can't change the way I vote for I already know that facebook shows a lot of fake news and fraud from different people. I vote depending on how well I the candidate. We should have our own principles and dignity and we shouldn't believe on what we read or what we hear about the candidates because it is actually their strategy to post their propagandas.

If television can change my voice, then why facebook can not do this? It is better to always make a decision not on the basis of media, but rather think with your head.

facebook is a very simple way to manipulate people, it's a manipulation that you agree with, you can not figure it out. So, facebook also has this function, to tell you who to vote for or not. It is important, I think, to be aware of all these aspects and to put the information sources at all!

Financially, facebook is more efficient, whereas TV needs too much money. The spread is also more effective, because social media like facebook more popular today. Many people leave the television and switch to his smartphone to get information. The strategy is to pay several groups of people to control as many Facebook accounts as possible. They do the propaganda there.
