Just a little update and a reminder to people who use faucets.

The donations are still going strong for "Save the Children" and they have donated nearly 6 BTC towards their cause.

Do your part and donate some of your income from this faucet.  Wink I donate 50% of everything I receive, when I use them. {It's FUN}

Here is some proof, but check the info yourselve, when you visit the site :

Well hopefully soon...

I received a second confirmation from Freebitco.in that they are doing it soon and I am working with a friend to customize a faucet template, to accommodate this feature.

Yesterday, I received a PM from someone, asking... Why do this? And I replied.. Because we CAN.

Just like this guy .... http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2mo2td/paying_for_burgers_and_coffee_with_bitcoin_to/

People are hungry, people are cold, people are hurt, people are lonely, and WE can make a difference.

So when are we going to see this?
Can the faucet users vote on what charity, they want the faucet to support? ^Smile^
In the end, it does not matter, I will support any faucet, doing this. ^LoL^

Send a PM to Vortex20000 and he will assist you with some help in that regard. {He has his own faucet}

I am asking people to change current Open source faucet software availlable out there, to provide people like yourselves to have access to a Charity version of the faucet software and to make it availlable on GitHub.

Will let you know, as soon as I receive word, from them.  Wink

Thanks for your willingness to support this.

This seems like a really neat idea, maybe I'll take the weekend to whip up something on my vps. Does anyone know any open source faucet for me to use a base to save some time?

Another cool take on this :

The faucet owner choose 2{two} charities and give the members a dropdown menu to choose which charity, they want to support.

Then you have a battle, between, for example the group supporting Cancer and the group supporting the SPCA {Animals}

This will have several advantages for the faucet owners :

1. More people will visit their site, to support a charity.
2. Less active users might, use the faucet more, and this will also increase traffic to the site.
3. It makes a faucet more fun, and worth doing.

And we all know, more traffic to your site, bring more advertizers.

The advantage for the members of the faucet :

1. More exposure mean, more refferals and more refferals, mean more income for the users
2. It makes it's easier to market a faucet to someone. {You tell them it's for charity, and they still get 95% of the payouts}

The faucet owner do not have to put aside ANY bitcoins for this.

The 5% comes from every time a member of the faucet use the faucet. So when they use it, 5% is already subtracted and moved to a single address for charity.

NO funding for this comes from the faucet owners share of the profit, because he/she would not have had that, from the start. {Faucet users gets 5% less}

All these payouts then accumalate in the charity address and when there is enough, the faucet owner, pay it out to the charity address. {This will be shown as proof on the blockchain}

You also know, all payments done to charity or a percentage of that, can be written off in most countries towards the TAX they have to pay. {So this might be a added bonus, if the faucet owner is registered for TAX in his/her country}  Grin

Everything else is done the same.  Wink

If you are passionate about a charity and you have a Bitcoin address for them, please post it here, with a screen capture, where they have posted it online on a website.

In doing this, we can make it easier for faucet owners to incorporate charities into the implementation of this idea. {They can possibly rotate charities to give more than one charity a chance to benefit from this}

Hope I cleared up most of the issues, you might have with this.  Grin

I think it is a good idea and very profitable bitcoin hunters, but it is very difficult for owners faucet, because they have to set aside at the beginning bitcoin once, while the cost of the ads on their website has not been paid, the payment to my advice bitcoin hunters through the faucet should be equated with the person who put the ads on the website ...  Roll Eyes

Yes, they are one of the most successful faucets out there.

The fact that they seeing the potential in this, shows why they are so successful.

It would be great to see several faucets doing this and each of them, supporting different charities.

1. Helping with Poverty
2. Protection and care of animals {Rhino projects / SPCA}
3. Protection and care of children and Elderly people
4. Helping with Cancer and other research on other sickness

....And much more.

When new people are introduced to Crypto currencies, like Bitcoin, they mostly associate it, with something negative. {Silkroad / Hacking / MtGox}

Now is the time to change this and give them something good to talk about. Example { Bitcoin faucet's gave $100 000 towards protective clothing to prevent the spreading of the Ebola virus, and enabled 300 doctors from the organization ..Doctors without Borders to work with Ebola sufferers and saved several peoples lives.}

Would that not be GREAT?

What was the result of doing this?

1. Good publicity for the whole "Crypto currency" community.
2. More people become aware of faucets
3. Faucet owners support charities of their choice
4. The concept of Crowd funding with VERY small contributions from MANY people around the world, is proven.

Best of ALL ---> Everyone made a difference in someones live!!! with very little effort or expense to themselves.

What target?

The objective and goal is clear.

1. Find faucet owners, who are passionate about making a change in this world, and who would be willing to change their faucet to accomodate this idea
2. Make changes to existing faucet software, to add a "charity" feature for people who would be starting a new faucet, and might want this feature.

I am already in communication with a few faucet owners, who want to do this.

Let's hope, some more people see this vision and want to support this.

Not sure if there are a difference, in what you saying, but it's +1 for you  Grin

For the people who wants to donate directly to charity, and not through faucets, it would be a added bonus. Why? - Well to show proof that the money will be going to charity, the faucet owner would be posting a link to the charity of their choice. So the faucet owners would give free exposure on their site, to these charities, by doing this.

Some people want to donate, or rather can donate, but do not have the time to search for donation information. So in doing this, faucet owners will be rendering another service, without even donating themselves. {Providing information to their favorite charity on their site}

Let's just do this and Pay it forward. {You still get 95% of every faucet payout and you give 5% towards charity}  Wink

Nope, you support the sites with transparent payouts.

Let's say your charity has a website, you ask them to display their Bitcoin donation address on the site, for all to see.

There will be people who misuse this, but it would hurt their reputation if they get exposed.

The sites with legitimate payouts to charities would get the most exposure and free advertizing to their sites.  Grin

The idea is to crowd fund these donations, with very small % going to charity from lots of people, who cannot afford to make big donations to charities.

I think it is a great idea.
For example, Moon Bitcoin (https://blockchain.info/address/12Zdr4CqdaLCngZJgLWVLYbuWNc2NNKKk5) has paid out over 9.5 bitcoin last week and 5% of that would be almost 0.5 btc, and it is just the money for a week.

Can someone tell us, what % of people who use faucets for the first time, continue doing it? {Repeat customers}

It does not mean, if you have 1 million registered users, that all 1 million of them are active users.

So my calculation, will be a bit flawed. {I made provision for less active users} but I do not know, how big this percentage is.

Even if only 500 000 are active, it will still make a difference.  Grin

Thank you for your reply, your inputs here are appreciated.

I have received some inputs from other faucet owners and they think this might work.

We are also busy on another forum, where we have excellent programmers, who will be changing some code to accommodate this feature.

They will also post the final product on GitHub for other future faucet owners to use.

5% of the payouts will not make a significant difference to the income for the faucet users. Most of the faucet owners are already giving a percentage of the income to a down-line referral network for each user. {If they only took 5% of that referral bonus, and deposited it towards a charity pot, as you stated, it would make this work}

We have lots of talented people on this forum, who could brainstorm this idea.

Faucet owners, will benefit twice from this :

1. Faucets in general will get good publicity and good publicity bring more users and more users bring more advertizing income.
2. Faucet owners can support charities or good causes of their choice

We can make this work, and we can make a difference.  Wink

Ok as a faucet owner I feel compelled to answer this thread.

Now whilst I think your idea is a noble one and something I am happy to get involved in your logic is flawed somewhat.

Us faucet owners DONT earn BTC we give it away, our revenue comes from advertising fee's and any other way we can think off to raise money to cover our out goings and then make a bit for us aswell.

90% of faucets use the MW script which has the referral system built in but I fail to see how you can utilise that to save a pot for charity.

What all us faucet owners do have in common that can help is a HUGE amount of BTC type traffic now your better off in my opinion abusing that in some way, but against you there, is the fact that if someone is clicking away on a faucet they clearly don't have much in the way BTC

There are limitless opportunities to make a difference.

One of the biggest Bitcoin businesses at the moment is, Gambling.

It would be great to get them in on this idea, and to see thousands of dollars going towards charities and good causes. They too have refferal bonuses and deposit bonuses.

For them to sacrifice as little as 5% towards this, would certainly help, but I doubt it.

My focus with this idea, would be to crowd-fund this through faucets. FREEBITCOIN has 903,572 registered users. {Let's say only 500 000 is active users}

Let's look at the numbers { 5% of 500 Satoshi = 25 Satoshi per hour x 500 000 = 12,500000 Satoshi --> +/- $50 US per hour! } <--- This is from 1 faucet and only 1 hour

If All 500 000 users, used it 5 times per day --> 12,500000 Satoshi x 5 = 0.625 BTC per day {+/- $250 US per day} x 7 = $ 1750 US per week x 4 = $ 7000 US per month

Now tell me, If one faucet can donate $ 7000 per month (5%} towards a charity or a good cause, what would happen, if say 300 faucets was doing this?

Small things, can make a huge difference. Pay it forward

Disclaimer : I used conservative estimates, based on guessed numbers. The faucet owners could give us better numbers to work with.

Hey man? Ive heard that freebitco.in is scam? Is there truth in it?

No they not, I get my "small change" every week, from the faucet and the referrals.

The are one of the oldest and more stable faucets around, and in my opinion the best faucet to adopt this idea.

Only thing is, I do not know how to get hold of them, to share my ideas.

I guess most people are not into making a difference, but more into making money. The crazy thing is, this will make them even more money, and they do not even have to sacrifice any income now. {Just offer the option to current members and set a parameter for new users, to donate 5% towards the charity, they support}

I have no knowledge on doing a faucet with this feature.

I was hoping people, who own faucets, and feel pasionate about some cause/charity would think about implementing it.

If you have a way to get hold of faucet owners, please send them a link to this thread or ask them to comment here, on the feasability of doing this.

I only know one faucet owner, and I am in the process of talking to him, to be the first to Pay it forward.

Well, I posted it on two forums and busy with Bitcoin websites and Reddit.  Wink

My vision for this, is to make this idea public for faucet owners to read and possibly implement it.

Some of them are paying referral commissions of 50% and more and with some slight changes, they could redirect only 5% towards the "fund" for their favorite charity or cause.

I would like someone to take this and run with it. {Create one of those graphics with a thermostat showing the progress towards their donation goal and then paying it over, showing proof on the blockchain}

People would actually use it more, if they see the progress going up for a big donation. {They might feel as if they are part of doing this BIG donation}

Some people cannot donate and will feel good about doing this, with what limited funds they have.

They might even implement more than one on each faucet and people can choose what charity/cause they want to support. {You will get some people competing to see who's charity will pay out first}

It's kind of impossible to reach faucet owners, so this is the only way I can reach them.   Sad

I have discussed this on another forum and would like it if someone could incorporate this option in their faucet.

Use your faucet to make a difference

Why not incorporate something good within a faucet. {This can be anything - Poverty elleviation / Animal cruelty .....}

You use these faucets to help someone else. { A small portion of your income goes towards a good cause, say 5% of each withdraw }

This can be voluntary or compulsory, you choose, when you setup your profile/faucet. {Take away only 5% from the referral commissions towards this}

Give the users a drop down menu to choose to which charity/cause they want to donate too.

Many people do not use faucets, because it's a waste of time, BUT if you know a small portion of that time/income goes towards something good, you might consider using it.

So we crowdfunding donations to good causes, using faucets.

Freebitco.in
28 Oct 2014
WON BY USERS
2,355.24829985 BTC {5% of this is +/- 117 Bitcoins}

*Imagine if 5% of that was paid out to some good cause? { 117 Bitcoins can make a difference }
* I can already see this in the press - Bitcoin faucet donated $50 000 towards SPCA {Insert your charity or cause here}

Pay it forward

My goals for this is ambitious, but I have learned, the small things make a huge difference, when a lot of people are doing it.

Edit : Removed the site link, because some people might think, I want to promote something and I don't ..just posted it, because I created the idea there first, and it had a lot more information and meat. Hope everyone is satisfied.
