I'm so clueless I don't know what a private key is.  I'm lucky I figured this out.   Just after the mess up with multibit which held my money for over a week because the blockchain was jammed up and got no response ever fron their CS I want to keep a bit available.

Good suggestions for where to spend. I just bought something from someone I hadn't used yet.  Once I get that I'll buy more but I'm conservative with my spending.   Save it for something really good.

I know there is an exchange that is offshore, but can't remember the name.    I'm wondering when the IRS is gonna get on top of this.

Thanks for all the help.  I bookmarked this cuz I won't remember anything.  Forgive me when I come back and ask the same questions in a month.  Lol.

I think there is a bug cuz when there are no confirmations I got nothing when I clicked on the blue link.  Nothing opened up. Maybe it's a safari thing.  Now I got 489 confirmations.  When I click on that it takes me to BlockR and Hash which I'm assuming is the Tx id.
Correct, the "hash" is indeed the TXID.

CB has said they are having problems with a few things and their CS is soo freaking slow.   I think I'm just gonna keep some money there in case electrum decides to have problems.
Fair enough... I learned a long time ago the value of "If you don't control the private keys, you don't control the coins"... I don't trust web wallets and exchanges. I will use exchanges, but it is basically money in, money out... nothing stays in accounts that I don't have singular control over for any longer than absolutely necessary Tongue

Anyway. now where to spend my btc.
You can always spend your BTC at 1sendMeAllYourCoinzhahaJustJoking Cheesy Grin Tongue Wink

If you're in the US, eGifter.com lets you buy a whole array of giftcards with bitcoins... I've bought some Amazon gift cards from them Wink

I had one problem with them which they fixed right away, having to do with my vault.  It asks for an online ID when it should be a second email to confirm removing money from the vault.  I accidentally put money in it but was able to add a 2nd email and confirm so whew.

Anyway. now where to spend my btc.

Oh, I totally agree with you. That is pretty crap to be honest... From what I can gather, you SHOULD be able to find it once you click on the transaction from your list of transactions, it should show a "0 confirmations" link in blue... clicking on that should show you the actual transaction details (possibly on a block explorer?)... and you should be able to get TXID

It seems like Coinbase has some issues.  There is a user in another thread where Coinbase are completely misrepresenting the amount of bitcoins transacted/used as a fee... like, the value they claim was taken is less than half of what actually got taken and I can't figure out how it was calculated as it doesn't match the inputs or outputs of the transaction. Huh

I would hope it is just a minor UI glitch... but... Undecided

Wow thanks.   I'll experiment when I have some working brain cells.   Just seems odd to me that Coinbase doesn't let me see the tx id.  I mean that's where it's created.

NOTE: to attach pics, upload them to www.imgur.com and then you can paste the "share" link they provide.

Anyway, as I said, you need to make sure you are on the "History" tab... it sounds like you are looking at transactions on the "Receive" tab...

These are NOT actually transactions in the mempool awaiting confirmation, effectively they allow you to generate an "invoice" and send it to someone so they can pay you. To see all your actual pending transactions, you need to click on the "History" tab:

Your "pending" transaction should show in this list... NOTE: it won't have a green tick... it will most likely have a little yellow triangle next to it... In any case, you should be able to right click and select "details":

And you should get a window showing all the important details of your transaction... including the transaction ID at the top Smiley

You can also select the "view on block explorer" option and it should open up your transaction on whatever block explorer you can configured in "Tools" -> "Preferences" -> "Appearance":

I have no idea what is up with coinbase. It gives you a pop up window but I haven't found the tx ID.

As for electrum, because of the version I have, it does not let me right click and see the ID, (read up) and even though I install the newest version it keeps me at the old one.

I'm afraid to remove the app and try again since I'm not comfortoable getting into the code to fix it.

Read up with whta Nolloh and I talked about.  If someone can show me where to get the tx ID while I wait for funds please let me know.  I'd post a pic but don't know now to attach it.

Well in the process I figured out how to delete that pending but what I'm trying to find, which I think I need to get from coinbase is the tx ID when I send from CB to electrum.   Since my recent nightmare experience with multibit I like to know the TX ID so I can accelerate it.

From what I can see from coinbase they don't give you the tx ID until you have one confirmation.  That defeats the purpose if the blockchain is bogged down like it was a few weeks ago.  I' posted on a coinbase forum where to find the tx ID but no takers.

I don't know if the tx id would show up on the receiving end if it's pending.
That does indeed seem very strange that Coinbase don't show the transaction ID? I have never used Coinbase, so I'm not familiar with the user interface. I would have thought that when you clicked on a transaction it would show you the TXID. As soon as the transaction is created and broadcast to the network... it has a TXID. Undecided

However, if you're sending to your Electrum wallet, you will definitely be able to see the TXID... you just need to make sure you have clicked the "History" tab. You should be able to see your "pending" transaction and when you right click, you should be able to find your transaction details Smiley

if they broadcast the transaction to bitcoin network you should see it on your end, simply in your wallet when you open it as an unconfirmed aka pending payment.
if not try changing the server that you are connected to from the menu Tools > Network
and you can always use an online block explorer to check your address and see the transactions it has received

https://blockchain.info/address/{your_address_here}
https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/address/{your_address_here}

if you don't see it anywhere that means they have not yet sent it to the network.

I installed 2.8.3. Replaced the old version but it's still showing 2.8.2.

Let me close it and try again.   It won't update.    Ideas?

I was wrong. It's not the wallet address. It's some number I don't know  It says bitcoin:1Coy3ZSMKuCmJ1VpHrM8HWsx4yFM8Jnhpn?amount=0.03485498&time=  (I deleted some)   Is that the transaction ID?

You are copying a request from the Receive tab. You'll want to go to the History tab (which should be the first tab of Electrum).

The History tab shows all your transactions and that Receive tab only shows requests you've created.

Version 2.8.2 for mac.  I'lll look for later but this is what I found.  What is the latest?

The latest is 2.8.3 but 2.8.2 should be new enough. I tested with version 2.8.2 on Windows and was seeing the options I described above. What does the copy URI button actually copy? Perhaps its a link to a blockchain explorer for that transaction?

It copies the wallet waiting to get the money.  Is there a way to attach a pic? I can show  you what I'm looking at.  I'll look for 2.8.3

When I right click the options I get are copy date, copy URI. save as BIP70file and delete.

Are you running an old version of Electrum? If so, you should update to the latest version.

Right clicking a transaction ID, should show
Code:
Copy Date
Details
View on block explorer

Ok.  I just sent some money from my Coinbase wallet to electrum.    Where is the TX id?  I have no idea where it is on coinbase and it shows pending on electrum.

If i wanted to accelerate this I can't do it without the tx id.  Multibit showed you everything having to do with the tx.   Coinbase shows zero except it was sent.

My hero!  Thanks so much!  Is there some place for people with lizard brains to learn this?  Or I can keep bothering you? Lol

Ignore my same question in the other thread.

Thanks again

It mostly comes from experience and I'm sure you'll become more familiar with it as you use it.

I'd recommend looking over Electrum's documentation at http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/ if you haven't already as there is a good bit of knowledge there as well.

And, of course, you can always ask any questions in the Electrum forum section. Many users here are glad to help out.

Thanks  You've been really helpful.  I just use it for purchasing the odd thing here and there.  Not for investing.  And blockchain is beyond my intellectual functioning.   Hail forums!
