People go for godaddy because it is the largest registrar of all time. And it also costs less in 1st year and 20% off another year because of promos
Some do this because of low budget too. Like if I got an awesome domain name in my mind but it is actually no need for me then I consider going with godaddy cause its cheap in .com domains

Note godaddy now restricted to use promo code of 3$ code once per user so if you try to buy more than one domain from same code per account it will say invalid code
