I am not really sure about this, maybe they can also co-exist? Both have pros and cons but looking at how SEC deals with ICOs, they might actually go with STOs. There is a good article I read about this topic https://hackernoon.com/ico-or-sto-who-wins-fd43c3ee7b8d

So the topic I want to talk about is STO or ICO. ICOs have exposed their disadvantages in the meaning that investors just buy tokens from the company and these token do not represent any equity of the company. STO might become an alternative option when Blockchain-based companies can still sell your tokens and investors can receive tokens representing for the equity of the company.

STO or ICO in the end are invetors who suffer losses. in my opinion the problem here is not how to collect funds, but rather the company. whatever the scammers will always be, so what is needed is a regulation that guarantees the security of funds for investors.

This is a good idea, unless STO is subject to centralization. After all, decentralization is important for many investors.

STO will ultimately take over the ICO scene, strictly because big money needs to be secured by a larger body. Regardless, ICO will under-go the same secruitiny in the eyes of the law, it doesn't really matter. STO is a marketing gimmick, flagging to investors "yes we are compliant, and will always be compliant with the law." Some will still start scam STO's, but it will make it much easier to identify them, if you do some diligent research into the company, instead of everything behind the coin.

This is truly an interesting development, as crypto currency is basically self-regulating itself, and handing itself over entirely to governments to watch over. Going against every idealogy behind the formation of cryptocurrency, no one owns or has control over the network. Are these cryptocurrencies anymore? No, they are not. They are assets, governed by the law.

ICO will stay but only few will invest to it and only legit companies will pursue it.
While with STO's , yes it can be the new ICO in the future.
But if there's something new that comes out its likely to replace everything.

STO does have some good offerings. The security is better in STO but the fact is it has to go through regulations. Crowdfunding will be easier because of this but there will surely be limitations.

STO perhaps just have got the favor of the common people but truth is STO is more restricted than ICO. Since they are subject to security regulations, STOs are required to fullfill many steps to be compliant with and some of these regulations require investors' detailed information. STO seems lucrative untill it snatches away decentralization (due to the fact that it is regulated under a central goverment institution) and anonymity (submitting investors' information).

As ICO seems to be not attracting anymore specially after this year, STO will come in favor. It is also more secure than ICO but it has regulations, for which decentralization and anonymous features are absent here.

STOs might not render ICOs useless. STOs equity based distribution is valid and advantageos but ICOs provides more freedom.

STO or the other.
Or whatever it is, as long as it can prevent the occurrence of a SCAM project. It will definitely be a method that will be widely used.
and I will participate in projects that use the method.
How about you?

Though ICOs are facing a lot of problem in the market right now, STO limits its users too much. The limitation leads the investors and the users to be weary of the STOs. So, unles ICO completely fails, people will not go for the STO on large sacle.
What's the differecens? I thought that they create STO to avoid the legal problem. Remember not only STO but TGE and many developers have used its word to avoid the legal problem if they are using the name of ico. remember you can put a limitation to the ico too. basically both are in the same framework.

I think STOs and ICOs can both exist together. The reason we see ICOs having so much trouble is because of these fraud ICOs that give the good ones a bad reputation, the fact investors sell their coin as soon as an ICO lists them which causes a dump etc. I think both possess considerable potential and what is in store for both in the future remains to be seen.

Well, sto is comparably newer coins than the ico. Also the price is not good too. But still, the older ones always give the stabler and safer chance. But also, newer coins provide risks which might bring fortune.

STO will replace ICO in most instances. You will still have ICO's but they will be strictly for utility tokens that have no ownership rights. As the industry transitions to STO's you will see existing securities regulations being more widely enforced. You will even need to get licensed to sell securities before you can handle the sales as a broker or exchange.

I don't know what the f*ck is STO before but after reading this article

Code:
https://bdtechtalks.com/2018/09/27/why-stos-next-big-crypto-trend/

Seems STO is a great choice for bringing crypto to the better ways, it can minimalize the manipulation by a financial institution and make investor can enjoy more benefits of tokenization...

ICO market is down for quite some times. But it is to early to eliminate ICOs and replace them with STO. STOs can be benificial but I think ICO and STO can just co-exist.

It seems to me that STO limits investors too much, unlike ICO, so I think they will coexist parallel to each other!
