I guess you are not a merit source to ignore people's posts, you are supposed to put an effort in to finding meritorious posts. how could you expect others to respect the ability of meriting responsibly while you are not willing to spend time on finding and rewarding others?

If you find a good quality post of a garbage poster and refuse to merit that good quality post, how could you expect that member to know the difference between garbage and good quality post? you should merit their posts to incentivize them for improvement. if we all ignore them, they would never learn and nobody would ever learn from them.

Lol.

Well, that sure hit something Grin
I also find it quite annoying to see some people quoting a very long post so I have to scroll a long one all over again and another one quoting that very long post will come up. So I understand why @Jet Cash is doing it and its fine. Even if he is a merit source or not, being ignored is not the end of the world for them, besides, there are still a lot of people who could merit one of their meritorious posts and they can distinguish the diff. from their garbage posts based on it.

I saw some people give a lot of merits to ANN threads, which are of course not appropriate.
Merit is supposed to be used for posts that are worth reading, but it's often used as a "like" button.
Yeah it is especially meaningless to give merits to announcement threads.  A few days ago I found someone merited several ann threads, who turned out to be a bounty manager of one of those coins, and even worse he/she was a merit source!  Is it allowed for a merit source to send merits to ann threads for his/her favorite coins or for which he/she is a bounty manager?  After looking at this thread I thought I should have kept the user ID, I need to check it again.

If nobody gives you an off-the-shelve sullution, i can probably write a small python script that takes a list of bounty spam threads, parses them and extracts everybody who merited any post in these threads...
I was thinking of a different approach: take theymos' list of all Merit ever earned, download the posts, and see which board they were on. It'll be quit easy to extract all posts on the bounty board, but it will take hours to download all posts.
That's actually a good idear, to be perfectly honest, i didn't know theymos publicesed a merit dump, this is the first time i see this link, but i'm already thinking about some usefull things i can do with it Smiley
For example, such a dump would be usefull for creating a merit web... I actually wrote a script a while back for creating a trust web around somebody i suspected of being an alt hoarder (in the end, i never pressed trough because all evidence was circumstantial, but the trust web did help), this script could easily be adapted for a trust web, that way i could visualise people receiving a lot of merit (offcourse, i'd manually have to check those people, since some members actually deserve a lot of merit, so there would be nothing wrong with them receiving merit from loads of users).

I'd like to put them on ignore, so that I don't contribute to the upranking of bounty hunters, and the encouragement of bounty programmes here.

Can the admins create another column for sections that  we see/filter how many merits are given in a certain topic?(just an idea)

I think it will be also a great help to Jet Cash and other readers to view high quality post & the "list of members who give merits to bounty programmes".  Wink

At this rate, rather than checking the whole thread(with shit posters) we can read directly the most useful replies at that topic too.

How about disabling the ability to award sMerits for abusers who consistently make bad awards?

Not necessary when the bad use of merit will end itself.   The poor sending of merit is unlikely to be attached to accounts also receiving large amounts.  When merit is sent it reduces it by half so I think it will naturally favour good posters over the bad.   Eventually people just run out the buffer they were given when the scheme started.

The really obvious cases, maybe where accounts are being traded will probably be modded anyway.  Micro management of peoples personal decision to favour particular forum posts or not is not the way to go imo.  I dont think thats the policy anyway as it would add too much workload, merit is just a bonus type system nothing too serious.

I probably need to review my ignore list. Maybe I should restrict the list to merit abusers, unintelligible posters and others attempting to cheat the forum.
Yeah, I periodically need to take people I've added off of it as well.  Usually I put people on ignore when I'm visiting Bitcoin Discussion, because that section is a repository of carbon-copy, cookie-cutter crap.  People's posts all say the same thing within a given thread, and I tell myself that there's never going to be anything worth reading from them--and then they'll post in Meta and they're not as illiterate as I thought.

People are just so motivated to crank out the posts because of bounties and campaigns that they'll drop a whole bunch of shitposts that are easy to write and have zero substance.

The problem is that there are so many new accounts being created, making shitposts, and you can't add them to your ignore list fast enough.

I believe an easy start will be the service section. There are a handful of them there awarding Merit to the OPs just for floating signature campaigns. I am always lost as to why they do such needless thing.

I've seen a few people applying for signature campaigns that merit the post they are applying for, because they think that will get on the good side of the campaign manger. It's not a huge issue I guess because they are just giving away merit and won't likely acquire many more because, it seems it's these very same people who do the majority of the poor quality posts.

I agree with the OP.  I saw some people give a lot of merits to ANN threads, which are of course not appropriate.  It would be helpful to list up such abuses.

I probably need to review my ignore list. I had mdayonliner on it for some reason, and I've just removed that. Many of the entries are because members' posting habits slow down my reading, and this includes posting large images like infographics, when a simple bit of text will do the job, and others quoting the long post. I found it annoying when a couple of posts could fill 3 or 4 pages, so I just blocked the posters. Maybe I should restrict the list to merit abusers, unintelligible posters and others attempting to cheat the forum.

Could use a browser addon like stylish, which lets you edit the CSS of websites.

For example you could add some code that shrunk all images to a maximum height of 100px. Personally I hate when people quote mass lengths of text just to reply a few sentences. So I have shrunk the quote box to be very small!

Yeah you do!!!  Cheesy

Honestly speaking I thought the same that you ignored me and somehow realised you have a long list of ignore list. Hey it's completely ok with me although it felt a little bad at the beginning.

Thank you mocacinno for the encouragement.

I think that it's high time to do that. The list of that members should be posted and pinned in one of the the first threads of altcoins discussion board. I do think that there are a lot of members who can help you to have the list of abusers. For the users who attempt to cheat the forum, nothing is better than a automatic ban without hesitation

I'm also using the idear to ignore people that behave in a way i don't find appropriate, thus making sure i never +merit them if they would ever post in "normal" threads..

You might find a lot of them in: Merit Abuser Gang [15 Cases and 14th yet to be completed]

I keep adding the abusers
