Name me your favorite socialist country in the world. You can use google and wiki if you can't..

Off the top of my head, I'd go with Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Switzerland

Basically social democracies... much like the USA

The USA is a A Constitutional Republic, not a social democracy, whatever that means to you...
http://madisonproject.com/2013/09/we-the-people-a-constitutional-republic-not-a-democracy/

What about venezuela? too socialist for you? Not enough freedom of speech?

It is funny you said Norway. It is a very small country with lots of oil. They are very rich.

I should have come to this thread more often. I like to educate people.

Socialism. On paper it seems to work every time. Then people want to leave. Then they build walls to keep them inside. Then they create quotas in skills of people needed in society inside the walls. Then the numbers of people not needed anymore in society has to be managed. Then they realize there are too many people still not convinced with the wisdom of their dear leader. Then the concentration re-education camps are built. Then there not enough people left to re educate. Then they ran out of money. Then the people start recycling the walls as furniture, fuel and slums as homes. Then the people realized their dear leader left a long time ago with whatever money was left.

Why so many Socialists are suddenly going mainstream in the Western countries? Jeremy Corbyn was recently elected as the leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom. He is also widely regarded as a socialist.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3233067/Bernie-Sanders-celebrates-victory-UK-s-new-socialist-Labour-Party-leader-saying-leadership-lets-billionaire-class-know-important.html

Three decades ago, if any American politician had the courage to openly admit that he is a socialist, then his political career would have ended right there. However, a large part of the population supports the Socialist candidate now, especially the youth. This means that the capitalist system has failed in the United States.

It's called indoctrination...

Did you grow up in America?  When I went to school... every single history/social studies class promoted the idea that socialism/communism was evil... they did not give specifics as to why, it was simply slandered to death... Socialism was made to be such an evil word, that nobody wanted to go near it...

This was not for any logical reason, besides America being in a cold war with socialist countries... Gotta hate the enemy or you can't get troops to shoot them with their guns...

Socialism was demonized in America for 30+ years... and again, for no reason really... no specifics were ever given besides, "it's evil, like those commies in Russia and China"

Now that America is starting to wake up, and people can do their own research on the internet... they can see socialism is not such a bad thing, and has some really decent ideas... a mix of socialism and capitalism would be beneficial for everyone

Bernie Sanders wants to shut down corporate greed, money in politics, and tax loopholes for billionaires... do ya dig?

Bernie Sanders does not accept campaign contributions from corporations, banks, wall-street, etc.  His average donation is less than $30... that's you and me bro...
MoveOn.org is hosting Bernie Sanders rallies, and MoveOn.org is funded by billionaires with 10 times more money than Trump.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77s1YAg1QsU

Private companies are free to spend their money however they see fit... hence, superpac...  significantly different than a campaign contribution...

Is there a better candidate?  What are the alternatives?  Hillary?  Trump?  Ben Carson?!?

Clearly Hillary Clinton is bought by big corporations just like everyone else (except Sanders and possibly Trump).  I can't quite get a handle on Trump.  I heard that he isn't taking big donations, but he is closely tied to big business.

Trump claims to be campaigning using his own money, which I suppose isn't a lie... but, he implies that he does not take donations, which would be a lie...

Trump takes donations, they are just much smaller because nobody actually wants to give Trump money

This thread is pretty cool. It needs more visibility. I'll try to help out.

You are right.
On the paper socialist theories looks great and people like it Smiley
They also like people which talks about it.
It's very easy to talk and promise everything to the voters like better salaries, more freedom, better public services etc.
After election is always waking up time Smiley
Who will pay for it?
Where to find money?
On the end everybody understand that socialism can't generate profit, only debt and when all money is spend, everything collapse.

Have you seen the movie "Wall-E"? All of what was left of mankind on a space ship, is a kind of socialism that could work, on paper. You just need a few thousand of humans, not billions. You need them to be and act like children, and not think too much, not even on the color of their clothing. They need to be on facebook all the time. You need a centralized computer system that will do the thinking for them.

Alas, even with a computer system on a socialistic space ship, the Digital Nomenklatura turned against its own people... and Wall-E, the independent thinking machine, saved the day.

This thread is fun! Very inspiring.

I don't know whether Bernie actually said that he will tax the super-rich at the rate of 75%. But if he wins the elections and something similar is imposed on the tax payers, then it will be a disaster for the Americans. François Hollande did something similar, after winning the elections in France. The results are there for everyone to see.

Iowa is feeling the Bern, New Hampshire Berning all over... Can you feel the Bern from your town?

Bernie Sanders wants to save you money by getting rid of greedy health insurance companies... saving you $thousands every year... can you feel the Bern?

Bernie Sanders wants to shut down corporate greed, money in politics, and tax loopholes for billionaires... do ya dig?

Bernie Sanders does not accept campaign contributions from corporations, banks, wall-street, etc.  His average donation is less than $30... that's you and me bro...

Martin Shkreli donated $2,700 to Bernie's Campaign in an attempt to get an interview (the maximum individual donation)... Bernie rejected the interview, and donated the $2700 to the Whitman-Walker health clinic

Are you starting to feel the Bern?

Nope.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Trump vs. Sanders election.  Both are not your typical politicians.  Both are considered to be more extreme in their parties and shaking things up.

Have not followed him as much as I should but notice he always looks like he is about to go full rant mode when they show clips of him.
Keep in mind I am not following as closely because I am not American but have liked some aspects of his campaign. The problem is he may be doing just what Trump is doing and giving lip service. Mind you thats what they all do in the end.

Will have to catch up on him and his ideas to get a full grasp of what he is up to.

You people who want Bernie Sanders to be president either don't understand economics at all or just in it for the "free" stuff.  Nothing is ever free and anyone with half a brain knows that.  If you pay taxes, then you would be in for a huge tax increase.  Bernie would eliminate the rich and middle class to create a lower class for everyone.  I currently pay 33% tax, under Bernie's plan that moves to 60%.  Now lets put that into perspective and you (especially Moloch) tell me it would be good with you if it were your money.  You make $350,000 this year, fantastic right?!?! Well, under our current tax plan you would owe $115,000 in taxes, and under Bernie that would be $210,000.  Sounds fair, right!!!!

Not in my book.  If i want to give my money to the poor, that should be my choice, it shouldn't be ripped out of my hands and handed to someone else.

You people who claim that Bernie Sanders has anything to do with "free stuff" have not done any research

Bernie's healthcare plan will save the average American $5000 every year... look it up

What "free stuff" is Bernie giving out? (other than saving you money?)

Who is the "average american".  What that means is that if you pay taxes, you have to pay more taxes so that you can pay for someone else's healthcare.  Bernie Sanders wants to tax the upper class 75%, look it up.

You misunderstand both of those things...

Bernie wants to cut out the middle-man from the insurance racket... republicans report that he will raise taxes, but they don't mention that you won't pay healthcare premiums anymore...  it just cuts out the middle-man (for-profit insurance companies), which saves a ton of money for everyone (people and businesses)

The 75% tax thing is a complete lie... Bernie never said that and you will never find a legit article claiming that he did

It comes from a reference he made to FDR, when the top marginal tax rate was much higher...

Also, MARGINAL tax rate... meaning only taxed at a high rate on income OVER $5,000,000... the first 5 million dollars will obviously get taxed at a lower rate, so don't worry

Another fine point is that whatever the rate, we can use your 75% number if you like, is before deductions... the actual rate anyone pays would be closer to half of that after deductions

It's all a bunch of scare tactics for people incapable of doing their own research... similar to the socialist label... people label him an evil commie bastard without a second thought
