^^ But what happens to Canelo saying that he doesn't want to fight another Mexican, and so it includes Munguia and David Benavidez. However, you saying that he will be fighting Munguia as I thought that it will be Berlanga a Puerto Rican as his next opponent. And if by chance he chooses Munguia, then it's a clear duck and avoiding Benavidez like a plague. Even Mike Tyson is now going in public and questioning Canelo's choice of opponent as Canelo is turning down Benavidez although there is huge money in the table  as he is guaranteed to the tune of $50 million++. So it looks like Canelo is cherry picking soft opponents and he doesn't want to lose again just like what Bivol did to him.

He will not fight another Mexican if the name is David Benavidez hehe. Munguia's name surface to be the next opponent for Canelo Alvarez but until it is etched in stone nothing is definite at the moment but whether it is Munguia or Charlo, Canelo is going for the easy path again this time.

Sad but true, as we have said, he is avoiding this Mexican like a plague and most of us here are questioning Canelo. But we can't do anything if he looks for Munguia a Golden Boy fighter or Berlanga, a Puerto Rican. And it was supposedly the two young fighters who are building their hype themselves and they are supposedly to fight, a Mexican vs Puerto kinda rivalry. I also agree that Canelo is deciding on a simple bout, so that he can still preserve his body this year for another fight. But it's not going to be Benavidez. As the speculation right now in the boxing community is Menguia in May and then Berlanga in September.

Until now, I still don't have any further information about Canelo progress in the fight on May 4, whether he will actually reach an agreement with Munguia.
But I sure with the news coming out this will indicate that the fight will be against Munguia and I would much rather have this fight happen than having to fight Charlo.
I will follow his progress and of course share developments in the Canelo fight here.

We can only speculate now as Canelo hasn't made an official announcement yet, but based on the post I read, he will make on in the coming days. So keep that patience level high as we will eventually know who he will be facing next. it could be the names that we are discussing here to be his next opponent or not here, but what's important is that he would choose someone that could excite the fans, not someone that he'll just easily dominate in the ring.

Yes, no official announcement yet from Canelo side, but the month of May is getting closer now, so he and his team should be in a hurry now and could be negotiating from behind with different fighters, but the name that surface is Munguia and Berlanga, Charlo's name could be the third option now as Canelo is no longer with PBC (last news we learn).

Unfortunately, the names of the boxer like Munguia and Berlanga will not excite fans, in my opinion. The majority of boxing fans wanted him to face the bigger and young David Benavidez but it seems Alvarez will not put himself at arms length with this dangerous boxer.

~snip~

This is still rumors I still hold that Canelo wants the Jermall Charlo to push, he has a basis for why he needs this to happen, Jermall is an easy fight he doesn't want to be in trouble and he wants to look great in front of his Mexican fans on May 4 because it's a Mexican feast but PBC don't want a fight that will not yield profit for the promoters he also don't want to fight Munguia who happens to be a Mexican also and is considered a hungry fighter with good potential.

A Canelo-Munguia fight is attractive as Munguia is also undefeated, one of them should give in we'll see a confirmation in a few hours if this is the fight that will likely happen I will keep this thread open until there's a confirmation if the fight is finally confirmed there is news that they are still negotiating or if the deal failed then this match against Jermall Charlo is possible.
Canelo wanted Jermall Charlo before because he felt that it was an easy fight for him and of course also to maintain his honor as champion, he was really afraid of losing what he had gained.
I think that Canelo is too worried about other boxers who have the potential to beat him, hahaha this is not just about money but about his name as champion who has managed to keep several titles.
It just that things like this make Canelo have different sentiment among boxing fans, we want to see fierce fight where punches occur that make both fighters feel pressure.

There is a rumor though that his next fight will be Munguia? I do agree that Canelo is going for a easy path, really hard to fathom, but yeah probably he is unwinding his career and doesn't want to face tougher opponents for this year.

We should see who is Canelo's choice, either Munguia or Berlanga, or even Charlo is he is still with PBC, then boxing fans are going to criticize his decision for fighter lesser opponents and it's clearly he is dodging David Benavidez.

I'm always confused when one of these twins have a fight. Man, these Charlo twins are really the same; the only difference is their names Jermall and Jermell (well ofc the record is different, Jermall is undefeated). For those who didn't know this isn't a rematch. This is another Charlo fighting against Canelo. It's definitely confusing when twins are involved in the same sport especially when they both have successful careers like the Charlo brothers. Jermall and Jermell Charlo are both talented boxers but they have their own individual styles and accomplishments. And yes, it's not a rematch but another opportunity for a Charlo brother to face Canelo Alvarez.

His promoter PBC is in dilemma Canelo wants to pick a lesser or a fighter that he thinks he can dominate to the tune of $30 million, but PBS is not going to make money from the fighters he is picking both of them have their interest, which is why we are reading rumors that he is parting ways with PBC, I don't know if there are promoters who will grant Canelo's wishes of fighting weak opponents at a big price, no promoters would like to gamble on that, so we will see in the coming days who will Canelo face, either he gives in or his promoter

It's not a rumor, Canelo already parted ways with PBC, there are a lot of sources that reported this already. And that is why we said that Canelo is avoiding David Benavidez, because after Canelo, PBC's next offer is Benavidez but obviously he doesn't want no part of the Mexican Monster.

So he severe his ties with PBC and now looking for either Jaime Munguia or Edgar Berlanga as his next opponent.

Could he make a lot of money facing either of those boxers? Sure, but do fans want him to fight those boxers? Nah, I doubt that, we want him against the young Benavidez. Will this fight add something to his legacy? Time will only tell, we might judge him after he retires.

DAZN does not seem to be willing to pay Canelo what he wants for fighting easy opponents like Berlanga so he is back to negotiating with PBC. His demands are too unreasonable for anybody that doesn’t have money to burn, like the Saudis, and I think even they wouldn’t want to pay for Charlo and Berlanga.

From several conversations and also the news that I know, the actual fight will be Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia and this seems to have reached an agreement, but it is still not clear what can be confirmed because until now I have not found any progress regarding the agreement.
It just that several media have broadcast rumors regarding Canelo Alvarez fighting Jaime Munguia and this is an interesting fight in my opinion.
Previously in another thread the discussion about Canelo was also presented with quite lot of feedback given from several forum members, but I will still see what will happen to Canelo fight schedule on May 4.
Maybe there will be unexpected changes but we will see soon because there are only less than 3 months left for the battle to take place.

Hopefully he is cooking something big, like a rematch with Bivol, in case the latter beats Beterbiev, just in case.  Cheesy

He isn't defeating Bivol but there are lots of fighters at 168 that Canelo can fight. If there is any fight to qualify as a big fight for Canelo it has to be Benavidez. Before Charlo, he was also rumored to fight Baduo Jack to make a big step for his 5 division champ legacy. This Charlo fight could just be his tune-up as its an easy win for him but he will still evade Benavidez despite the $50M offer.

But if what you are saying is possible, Canelo must be looking forward to fight Beterbiev or Bivol whoever wins.

I feel somehow about this fight. I will state it in clear terms that that Charlo is going to lose. He has been inactive for a while and I don't think that he has built up enough momemtum to fight Canelo. It is not balanced. A fair fight for Canelo would be with David Benavidez which boxing fans has pointed out and I agree with them. Anyone who watched David's last match against Plant would know that he has a strong stature and heavy handed with his punches. He is a beast and that is who Canelo should be facing and not Charlo.

We all have the same feeling which is why PBC doesn't want to sanction this fight its not attractive, the fight is predictable it is an obviously cherry-picked fight for Canelo which is why there is news that PBC and Canelo will part ways.

Mike Copinger just tweeted this

Quote
First reported by ESPN's Mike Coppinger, Alvarez will bow-out with two fights remaining on his three-fight contract. Following his lackluster win over twin-brother Jermell Charlo, PBC believed a match vs. Jermall Charlo would not do well in terms of pay-per-view buys. The two sides couldn't agree to terms and it was clear Alvarez and his camp were determined to stand their ground.

I don't know why but I got this image that Canelo is going to finish the fight with a blow to the liver. Jermall won't be able to handle the power so he'll start covering up like a turtle and that's where he'll kneel down from the nasty liver shot. No lines yet but I'm looking forward to odds of at least 1.50 for a KO. I'm not sure if bookies would agree to that hehe.

It's not yet listed on https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/348759; probably it's not confirmed yet.

But I'm just a little confused here. Why would Canelo choose to fight Jermall Charlo again when they already fought last year, and we saw how he dominated in that fight? In my opinion, it's not exciting to watch anymore. A rematch would only be interesting if the decision in the first fight was a bit controversial, and this one isn't.

As usual, Canelo will have an easy win and will just wait for his next opponent. Hopefully he is cooking something big, like a rematch with Bivol, in case the latter beats Beterbiev, just in case.  Cheesy

As expected Canelo preferred Jermall over Benavidez I don't think Jermall can do better than his brother although he is a better version Canelo is just too powerful and too skillful for the Charlo brothers, although Jermall cannot be considered a cherry-picked fight for me since he is also a champion, it's just Benavidez is a more challenging fight than Jermall, he can bring more to the boxing community.
The boxing experts were right when they said Benavidez is not on Canelo's radar, although Benavidez has earned his right to fight Canelo, when you are on top you have the luxury to fight who you want to fight, this is to protect your status, and this is not right.

Canelo vs Benavidez is not possible anymore unless there is a big offer from the Saudis to fight there. Jermall is no match for Canelo, but i think Jermall also insists on this fight to avenge his brother. would it be Crawford as his next fight after this?  this will be a bigger fight as they are not expecting Canelo going to fight Benavidez. both of them already moved on to fight someone else. not the most anticipated match-up, they usually go for the biggest fight at the end of the contract but Caanelo is shamelessly picking the easy.

This fight is turning out to be complicated, Canelo wants to push through with this fight but PBC his promoter do not want Jermall Charlo because its not viable and will not attract good PPV sales based on boxingnews24 article

Quote
Canelo Alvarez is insisting on fighting Jermall Charlo for his May 4th fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend with PBC. If Alvarez doesn’t get his wish to face Jermall, he reportedly won’t be fighting in May. The ultimatum by Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) puts PBC in a position where they’ll need to decide whether they want to give in to the superstar’s wish to face Jermall (33-0, 22 KOs) or refuse the request and lose him for the May 4th date. Premier Boxing Champions want the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo to face Jaime Munguia on that date, reportedly believing it’s a more financially viable fight than the match against Jermall.

Source: Canelo Draws A Hard Line: Charlo Or No Cinco De Mayo Fight - Boxing News 24 (https://www.boxingnews24.com/2024/02/canelo-draws-a-hard-line-charlo-or-no-cinco-de-mayo-fight/)

Canelo wants a cherry-picked fight on that day he wants to look good in May 5 because it is a Mexican holiday and we all know that Canelo can easily beat Jermall after beating his brother Jermell, there's a possibility that Canelo will return to DAZN because he can get what he wants here, PBC wants a fight that sells and they think that a Jermall fight will not result in a profitable sales because Jermall style is no different to Jermell fight that results in easy win.
Canelo being the PPV king has the option to pick who will he fight and unfortunately he go to fighters he can easily beat, not unlike Pacquiao who is ready to fight anybody, which is why Juan Manuel Marquez is criticizing him
