When I open armory the logs says it can find the data from the dir on the local disk.  I couldn't get any links I found to work...how do I point it to my external drive.

Depending on the operating system, you first need to mount the disk.
Afterwards, start armory via the commandline with the --satoshi-datadir parameter:

Code:
armory --satoshi-datadir="/your/path"

If you don't want to open armory via the command line each time, you also can edit the armoryqt.conf by adding:
Code:
satoshi-datadir="/your/path"

Tried again and my hard drive filled up before I got the whole BC Dl'd.  I transferred to an external drive and when I open bitcoin core it read the BC data just fine and fully sync's.

I am on ububntu and I reinstalled the .96.4 gcc 4.7 version https://btcarmory.com/0.96.4-release/

When I open armory the logs says it can find the data from the dir on the local disk.  I couldn't get any links I found to work...how do I point it to my external drive.

thx!

no i haven't. I will do it.  I think though I can sort of believe my balance though right?  I only had transactions from a few years ago and they seem to be showing up.

The only way to know for sure is to check your balances against the current longest chain.
Thank you!

Your chain data is borked. Have you tried deleting Armory's database folder yet?

When it does so, check that you have the "Connected" message in green in the bottom right corner... the number of blocks should be greater than the current block height of 531,939.
My balance and transaction history finally showed up, the "parsing tx hashes never went away.  Interesting think the blocks in the bottom right was still at 3xx,xxx.

Anyways I just wanted to see the balance so I guess I got it going?

Cheers thx for the help happy I could make it work!

Hmmm left it for a day and a half after restarting since it seem to freeze on "parsing transaction hashes or something"  It seemed to get further but I think its stuck again.  I don't want to disturb it so i screenshotted with my phone the end of the log as the rest seems normal (other log was the same as before with nothing else different but new timestamps:

Dashboard says armorey is online. Bottom right corner says offline in red and 366869 blocks. Armory is online and orgazing block chain graphics are an orange bevelled square moving left and right. Scan tx history just has very small orange piece on it's left.

Last few entries is dblog...

Verifying tx filters
Done checking tx filters
Enabling zero conf tracking
RPC connection established

Nothing added to armory log since previous post about it. It didn't change over night. I tthink I  only have 2g of ram and 7gbs of HD space left BTW.

Edit:  tried to add my old wallet and it seemed to freeze. Rebooted and restarted armory. Its building databases seems to be advancing.

Edit2:I think I have 8 GB of ram

Just leave it for a couple of hours... it should eventually finish doing all the scanning and tell you that "Blockchain loading is complete".

Seems it finished the first process and node status is now full. Armory log says dashboard switched to scanning mode although the last entry is an hour old. Log has this repeated couple times a minute for hours.

Dblog has parsed block file many times and one last line says organizing chain.

Dashboard says organizing chain and the graphic is moving but there no progress indicator

Looking at your logs... You're running the old outdated version of Armory (0.96):
Quote
2018-07-13 14:07 (INFO) -- ArmoryUtils.py:1262 -    Armory Version        : 0.96

You need to update to 0.96.4 for it to work with the latest versions of Bitcoin Core.

Until you do this, Armory will not sync.

NOTE: The "official" Armory website is now: https://btcarmory.com/

ok cheers, thats a great lead ;p

We can't tell if your logs are ok without seeing a lot more of it that what you think is relevant. Use https://pastebin.com/ and copy/paste as much from the end of the log as you can.

Seeing as you switched OSes, can you confirm the versions of Bitcoin Core and Armory that you have installed on your Ubuntu setup? Where did you download Armory from?

Did you use: https://github.com/goatpig/BitcoinArmory/releases or did you download from the Ubuntu "Store"?

This is armorylog.txt the whole thing was too much here is a couple thousand lines from the end: https://pastebin.com/EPxFJuNb

Here is dblog.txt: https://pastebin.com/mk6VyEFr

I didn't switch OSes this time.  I am on the orignal ubuntu I downloaded the block chain on (as I understand and remember).

I don't know ubuntu well to know what versions I have.  I can't tell if there are multiple armory's possibly that are installed.  How do I tell the versions?

I don't think I got it from the repo.  I think I got it from the armory download page and have tried both versions that are there.  Happy to reinstall etc.  But hoping for direction and clarity Smiley

I couldn't get if from the ubuntu store.  It only showed up once I think and I reinstalled from the armory website since I'm pretty sure.  Why am I downloading from a repo instead of the official site?

Seems like its working...am I just not being patient?  Hard to tell what step I am on behind the scenes compared to what its telling me...
It will take some time, yes. For reference blk01313.dat is the latest on my machine, at least. That log file is increasing past block #74, right?
I'm hoping this external drive is connected via USB3 or better - Might take an excruciatingly long time if it is USB2 Sad
No its on the c: drive now.  I copied this chain to a windows computers and was previously asking for help with that (I abandoned the efforts because I didn't even know if copying from ubuntu to a windows use would work).

Recently I decided to try lightning on this ubuntu drive and to my delight I already had most of the chain and it worked when I fully sync it.

also when i search for armory TWO icons to start it come up.  To be clear its six because there is 2 of each of: armory, armory(offline), Armory(test network). (edit: they have the same installed time stamp so they must be the same instance? seems strange).

edit 2: also armory doesn't show up in the ubuntu software "store". Once in awhile it does, seems intermittent at best.  Is that normal?

edit 3: found control + h to undhide files and found them. I'll post anything relevant in the next post.

I actually got Ubuntu working which originally had the block chain I copied. The block chain is fine I synced and ran a lightning node. I have installed armory and it is hanging on...please wait the global tx history is being scanned. Is this normal. There is no percent or indication progress is being made. How do I find the logs? Where are the docs that tell me how to find them. Thx.

when its finished ill start armoryqt with this target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Armory\ArmoryQt.exe" --satoshi-datadir="g:\bitcoin"

Not sure if bitcoinqt should be running?  I think once its indexed and sync'd ill try closing it and running the armoryqt target.  If that doesn't handle Bitcoinqt in the background then i'll shut it down and run bitcoinqt (without reindex) and open armory with the target.  Just not sure which to do when otherwise.

If you have autobitcoind on (default setting), Armory will try to run bitcoind for you if it can't find an exsiting instance, otherwise it will just use the current instance.

Then your Bitcoin Core is not configured to download it elsewhere... Did you start it from Armory? or did you start it manually?

Either way, it's "datadir" path is wrong if it is not downloading where you wanted it to.

It might be that your bitcoin blocks are corrupt? You might need to shutdown Armory and start Bitcoin Core using -reindex, wait for that to finish and sync up, then delete the Armory databases and let Armory try rebuilding it's database again... If that still doesn't fix it, you might be looking at having to redo your entire blockchain Undecided

That log looks pretty "clean"... it shows that it is using your G:\Bitcoin directory (or at least it is attempting to use it)... can you post the dbLog.txt as well? Given the lack of obvious issues with the Armory log... I suspect that is where the issue lies.

thank you for your patience, I meant to give this link: https://pastebin.com/3Ec5C907

It isn't every line from the log because every line is too big.  I think its the last log and I took out the repeated lines.  I'll try to run armory again in the meantime and if i haven't provide the proper log text I'll do that too if I need to give more.

the Armory log will show exactly where it is looking for your blocks and how it is invoking armoryDB... the armory db log will allow us to see if armoryDB has any problems reading the blocks etc... without this information we have no idea what exactly your issue is.

posting the last 10 lines of the log doesn't help at all... if they're too big for pastebin, delete your log files, start Armory again and then post the new logs via pastebin.

Yes I configured core to work from an external drive ie g:\bitcoin and I did the same for armory.  I think we can be confident core is reading and writing to the proper place.  I have armory unchecked in regard to controlling bitcoind etc which greys out the ability to control where armory sees the blockchain (g:\bitcoin etc) but i think i tried it both way (check and not checked).

I don't know what you want with the log file.  it is too big to fit into past bin.

I pasted the info from the last ********************* line

And didn't copy all the repeated lines.

I just copied the folder "bitcoin" from the ubuntu drive and set my pc to read off an external hd. Which seems to be working. Armory is stuck 300k blocks or something though. I think I might retry getting the bitcoin folder from the ubuntu drive.  I might have deleted something from the bitcoin folder?

It seems like Armory can't find your blocks folder... Did you configure Bitcoin Core to use a custom data directory? Or is it running from C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin ?

If it's in a custom directory... Did you configure Armory with the correct path?

Can you post the full logs? Please use Pastebin (Don't paste the log text into a post here) and post the Pastebin link here

No luck and I'm pretty sure I deleted the database not from armory but from the bitcoin folder, maybe thats the problem (ie I could re copy it from the ubuntu drive).

Running core with this target: "C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" -server

Armory is saying it will rebuild on restart but its not.  I guess delete the armory data folder, maybe reboot and try again.

Connected WAS burgundy and is now back to purple

498175 block confirmed in core and still 25035 in armory.  To be clear thats 25k. and still purple. I deleted "databases" in appdata>>Roaming and restarted and same thing
Narrows it down a bit, thanks.
In Armory, have you tried Help > Rebuild and Rescan Databases ?
Hopefully it won't choke this time round. It does take a while to build the db from fresh.

To deal with the purple connected, you either need to add "-server" to your bitcoin core shortcut or "server=1" to a bitcoin.conf file in the bitcoin core data directory (i.e. usually on the same level as mempool.dat, peers.dat and so on). Will need to restart core for that to take effect.

Ok, armory says online.  connected (25035 blocks) in purple.  I've imported an old key but there are no transactions on it. I should have a key with transactions and I think this is my only armory key I had.  How often do blocks increase, its been about 30 mins with no change?  thoughts?!
Purple means the node RPC is not available. The bigger problem seems to be that you are ~470k blocks behind. Current block count is 498,147.
If you open bitcoin core, go to help > Debug Window. From there, on the "Information" tab look for "Current number of blocks" - what number is there?

Edit: And if your coins/transactions are more recent than 15th October 2009, they aren't going to appear without more blocks.

I also had some troubles in getting armony on line
i will tell you what worked for me hoping to get fixed because its a good wallet

install the last version of the bitcoin core wallet, the official one and let it sync the entire blockchain.
it has to be fully updated.

leave the core wallet open and open also armony. wait for all checking staff and it has to get online

It sitting on "ArmoryQt.py:4673 - Dashboard switched to "Scanning" mode" the timestamps were updating every few minutes in the armorylog.  But now they haven't updated for about 30 minutes....

Ya well i was looking on the armory webiste, hard!

I downloaded what I guess is the link, although its 96.3.99 not 96.4

I unzipped to a fold on my c: tree and unzipped a "library" zip folder.

then I let core catch up again and opened armoryqt file.

Its syncing...

Cheers.

Then you didn't look very hard for the real latest version of Bitcoin Armory... Tongue Try the sticky thread at the top of the thread listings on this board titled: "0.96.4 RC1"

I was trying with a different comp, ubuntu and old computer, and couldn't get armory online.  It would just stalling at scanning transactions etc.

I copied the blockchain data to a PC and have been trying with win10.  Core seems to be fine with the block chain data (armory is reading it initially as well).

I don't think my log errors are consistent:

(latest one)

Obviously trying not to have to dl the blockchain again. I have unchecked "Let Armory run Bitcoin core in the background" and I start core first (using a shortcut to the gui wallet version) and then armory.

I reinstalled with the newest versions of armory I could find: 0.96.0 0.95.1 for win64 bit

Any help appreciated thx!
