I knew someone who always record their losses may it be in gambling or trading, and the tendency is he put more pressure on himself that causes more losses. It's okay to write and to monitor it but not use it as motivation to play more, there are things that aren't meant to recovered and probably those losses in gambling is one of them. Having a plan or budget to upto how much we can lose or how much winning we aim when we play is important so we know when we will stop. Regarding Op's problem it will be better to watch first and understand terms before playing since it can cause more losses if we don't know what we are into.
